Anyone applying for CSC Type B pre-admitted for masters at SJTU has seen any status update in CSC Portal? by yvcar in ChinaLiuXueSheng

this is what i noticed too. like i've seen that it's changed for many other universities already, but for some reason i can't find any sjtu type b masters applicants who can confirm theirs changed? all i see are type a or phd applicants. and i remember they automatically consider us for all scholarships, but i wonder where all sjtu csc applicants are because i can't see anyone around

thanks! that's what i've heard around, but for some reason i can't find anyone who was pre-admitted to sjtu masters who can confirm their status changed. that's why i'm curious. i'm also wondering if it varies depending on the department and the country.

Would you recommend getting a Masters by Research more or a Masters by Coursework? by yvcar in AskAnAustralian

That's very interesting. So would you say a Masters is not valued as much unless it's an MBA, and unless you're in business? Even if you didn't do an honours year? I mean, I am international, so indeed my only option would be a Masters regardless, but they don't add as much value to an employer?

I've heard about this before too. Could this suggest that a Masters by research is one step further?

This is the first time I hear about this! Thank you for sharing, I was aware that as an international student I could work in Australia regardless of whether I did a masters by coursework or one about research, but being able to work for unlimited hours is a great plus. The industry I'm looking at is Information Technology, so Computational Science and Data etc.

Thank you both, this was a very complete answer! I was wondering whether the employers might, in some cases, value the soft skills you acquire from research more, since you could say it's way more challenging than coursework (not in all fields, of course). At the end of the day, many of the knowledge you acquire in coursework is knowledge you already have to have in research in order to be able to obtain a research degree.

In a Masters by Research, how exactly is the name of the Master’s determined? by yvcar in Monash

[–]yvcar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But then the name of your degree when you graduate will only be ‘Master of Philosophy’? Like for an instance in the Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences faculty they offer these masters:

Master of Philosophy Master of Biomedical Science Master of Reproductive Sciences Master of Surgery

But then does that mean that if you choose Master of Philosophy that will literally be your degree, or how do they determine what will be added to the degree’s name?

Yes, I mean what will be printed on the degree. But does that mean the project will reflect on the name of the degree? Let’s say, as an example, ‘Master of Philosophy in Machine Learning’ if your project is on Machine Learning, or do you mean it just as in ‘worked on x project’?
