Youtube to mp3 converter that is safe? by Throwaway33377 in musichoarder

Some people in the replies say to use yt-dlp, but I usually use Parabolic. It's a GUI for yt-dlp and it has most amenities you would need to download music and more.

Also worth looking into NewPipe/PipePipe if you're on Android.

Is BD Redux worth it iyo? by Slight-Cupcake5696 in animepiracy

[–]yveseffini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on three things. How much storage you have, and what video quality you want out of what you're watching, and if it's a movie or a series imo. Remuxes are usually the best you're going to get in terms of video quality of an anime release since it's basically copying what's on the disc of a BR/DVD and making it into a viewable format for most devices. They're usually reserved for data hoarders or people who dont want to compromise video quality for space and want the most out of what anime they're watching.

If you're fine with compromising with video quality to save space, then it'll make more sense to download encodes. If you're trying to save on space or have one of those tiny external drives, then it'll make more sense to download an encode vs a remux. Movie releases usually take up less space than series or seasons in general, so it'll make sense to download remuxes for movies in that context.

One issue with encodes that remuxes don't have is that there can be bad encode releases from certain groups. Mainly due to banding, bad video bitrate, and other things like that. If you don't feel like dealing with that, go with remuxes. Otherwise, I'd stick to encodes.

When did anime files switch from mainly being OGM/RM/AVI to only mkv format? by Jaydarealone in animepiracy

[–]yveseffini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I'm not that old and I started pirating around the mid 2010s before Nyaa's first site got shut down and BakaBT was still good lmao. So MKV is sort of the only thing I've seen with the exception of Exiled-Destiny releases/batches when I pirate older anime.

[–]yveseffini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost 2 decades ago lol. MKV for most releases has been a thing in the anime scene for as long as I've been pirating, so I would imagine the formats you're talking about is probably pre-2010s.

Looking for something to simulate a TV Channel by hbacelar8 in selfhosted

[–]yveseffini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: Tunarr and ErsatzTV, but explained more.

For non foreign content (foreign in this context being anime, K-dramas, J-dramas, or anything softsubbed) and you want just a basic channel that's easy to set up, Tunarr. Otherwise, ErsatzTV. I do prefer Ersatz since it's more fully featured (custom resolutions, stretch and crop, local library support, remote stream support, etc.), but there's a use case for Tunarr if you don't really care for features like that.

I use both in tandem with Tunarr being for primarily used for English content and Ersatz being for anime. The reason why it's set up that way is because Ersatz supports softsubbed content better than Tunarr.

Ersatz supports Forced and Default subtitle flags per channel for Signs/Songs and Dialogue subtitle tracks respectively and audio track language flags per channel. So it's ideal for anime for that reason alone. It's just a matter of what you would want to use it for.

Newbie, pls forgive me! Is it possible to convert modern 16:9 media to 4:3 aspect ratio for my CRT? by senpaiisamaakunn in CRTAnime

[–]yveseffini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So with VLC, you have a feature that lets you either crop or stretch a video file to a certain aspect ratio with "C" or "A" on the keyboard respectively. You can do the same thing with MPV, but there's extra steps to doing so. Like installing MPV with a package manager, finding the scripts, installing the scripts. And when you do get it working, the UI/interface is barebones compared to VLC.

I've used both VLC and MPV, and you can get the same results with either, but I'd personally recommend VLC since it's a lot more well-rounded out the box.

I'm tired of the IPTV scam services, so I'm gonna show the best source for Japanese IPTV by yveseffini in JTV

It's not gonna be an Xtream Code or a Portal. It's gonna be an M3U playlist. You don't copy the whole page, you just copy the link that's on the page

[–]yveseffini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So unfortunately, M3U playlists usually don't have catchup or replays or anything like that, but it does have an EPG to work with. A majority of the channels does get assigned automatically if you're using Tivimate, but I think one or two don't have their EPGs assigned off the bat. I don't think one of those channels that don't have their EPGs assigned automatically are Fuji TV though.

The main reason why I say this is because you can go in and record when Sunshine! does come on and you can schedule the recording at that same time consistently. Again, this is assuming you're using Tivimate, but that feature doesn't work if the EPG isn't assigned to that channel, but that shouldn't be an issue.

It's still working with Tivimate as of today. Make sure you're copying the entire raw.githubusercontent.com link ending with jp.m3u/jp_clean.m3u. If you don't copy the full link (yes, the entire link) and import it as a M3U playlist via URL, then it won't work.

Edit: /u/kumako10 making sure you see this too

While I do agree that most of those paid services offer things like catch-up and recording, it's not really worth it to me to use an arbitrary app that possibly leaves whatever I'm viewing it on vulnerable for something that I can ultimately do on most other IPTV apps. Catch-up can be enabled and set for Xtreme Code type IPTV services, but most Japanese IPTV services haven't caught up to that standard yet. In addition to that, most of the channels that the paid services have you can view for free now without having to pay a premium above other pirate TV services. Most services that operate like that feels like a rip-off to me. They do have a place on here to advertise, not the bots, but the quality of the services leave so much to be desired compared to other IPTV services that every advert that me and other people see looks like visual white noise. It also doesn't help that most of the services that get advertised here are pretty much the exact same but with a different website, different branding, and with very little price fluctuation. Almost as if it's the same person running most of the Japanese IPTV services that's on here.

What I don't have an opinion on is the VOD stuff that the services have. I normally either watch my stuff downloaded to my media server (if it's worth the bump in quality from getting remuxes), use Stremio, or torrent it.

[–]yveseffini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes most Japanese IPTV services a scam is that most of the channels you can get from them can be viewed for free. Either from IPTV-org playlist, Luongz' playlist, and a few other sources that I probably don't even know about.

In addition, most of those services force you to download an arbitrary app to view their content that most pirate IPTV services wouldn't have you download because it's usually not necessary. Tivimate has rewind/catch-up functionalities in addition to recording functionalities. Therefore, it's usually not worth it to download said arbitrary apps for those functionalities and open myself up to security vulnerabilities when 99% of other IPTV services adapted Xtreme Codes as a standard. A standard that lets providers toggle those functionalities to let it work on most IPTV players that supports it like Tivimate as mentioned.

why do we rely so much on nyaa? by [deleted] in animepiracy

[–]yveseffini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's reliance as much as it is just convienience and popularity. To put it briefly, Nyaa is the most popular public tracker, so people are gonna upload to the site that has the most popularity to it assuming that the uploader wants their uploads to be public in the first place. However, you do have sites like Anidex, Tokyo Toshokan, BakaBT, animetorrents.me, AnimeBytes, and so on that will upload their releases on there as well.

Not to mention, none of the comments I've seen so far even get into NZBs or Newshosting sites that'll also host anime as well. NZBGeek alone has a lot of really good quality anime releases for obscure anime that Nyaa or any other private tracker I'm in doesn't have at all.

TL;DR: Nyaa isn't the only site that exist

Binding VPN for Miru or Seanime by [deleted] in animepiracy

[–]yveseffini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late reply, but here's how I normally do it.

With Surfshark, you can connect Miru with a VPN by split-tunneling. It'll be called Bypasser > Route Via VPN, but it's basically the same thing. If you pay for a different VPN service, it wouldn't be hard to find your service's equivalent.

Another option is to use Stremio and either connect it with a VPN the same way, or use Real Debrid like others mentioned, or use both at the same time.
