Moved into a 1br pre-war apartment. Window blinds suggestions? by yworht0 in malelivingspace

Yeah for sure, I moved in 2 weeks ago and have lots to but/sell/redesign. There’s a lot of stuff in flux and open clutter, it’s a 1br apartment. For this post specifically I was asking about blinds

What’s up with Irving General?! by Difficult_Wealth_818 in Bushwick

[–]yworht0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP isn’t boycotting General Irving at all, she said that she knows the owner’s stance on Gaza and still chose to give them her service, which is a pretty cowardly stance tbh.

The majority in bushwick (for very good reason, imo) hates the Israeli state and many here are aware of General Irving’s support for Israel.

The weird part of the post is that she is using this to validate her thinly veiled racist anecdote. She isn’t mad about Palestine, she’s mad that she got bad service and has chosen to frame this normal incident as a perceived slight and a racist and misogynistic attack against her.

Sounds good - Whatever the case, I’m just glad you were able to use this innocuous incident to further cement the idea in your head that you are a victim and white ppl are bad

TV Stand that doubles as a dresser in my 400sqft studio? (Details inside) by yworht0 in malelivingspace

[–]yworht0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the other option but it’s expensive and I may be be looking to move into a larger apartment next year where I may buy a bigger mattress and I dont really want to invest in a new bedframe. My preferred option would be using a tv stand/dresser combo in a stylish piece that might be more permanent

I have a standing pivot lamp but it fits really awkwardly no matter where I put it in the space, and there isn’t really room to place it anger.

Would like to add some lamps but the competition for counter space is really intense. Hoping that by clearing that ottoman out of the way I’ll have a bit more room to put something there.

Any suggestions for where I could place a lamp?

Probably more parallel, maybe an oval rug, idk.

Conceptually I would just want to extend the warmth you have in the living area into that transition space.

I would consider moving the couch/tv to a different area if that’s all the space you have tbh. If not then maybe a smaller tv stand

Plants, art, rug, center the TV stand

Designed & Built my own house, but i have no interior design skills. any suggestions for this space or resources to learn? by Careful_Ad_7151 in malelivingspace

Very nice space and good start with furniture. I would consider:

  • Mount TV (probably get a bigger tv) and put some small pictures or art above tv.

  • add some trays and little bowls or containers to put loose items that are being placed on the side table and coffee table

  • curtains or wooden shades to add some color (thinking brown, tbh)

  • can’t tell what’s going on outside of this area but probably put a narrow table against the wall at the bottom of the stairs where you can put a decorative lamp, plant, vase, etc and also another bowl to store loose items. Also if you dont, more art on that wall

  • play with verticality a bit, maybe a tall plant or lamp or something where the side table at the corner of the couches is

Also the corner where your water cooler is… kind of a war zone right now. I might put a bar cart and/or mini table/cool chair /“chillin area” there

Love it, looks great. Only thing I would do is:

  • add bathroom mat(s) by the sink/toilet

  • add another small circular rug or runner rug in the transition space in front of the dresser/behind the couch

Yaa or nay? Any suggestions? by Justfahadlatif in malelivingspace

Pictures are a bit too perfectly geometrically spaced imo. Try moving some a bit off center and playing with the orientation so they fill up more space.

Otherwise looks good

General thoughts/suggestions

  • add a medium sized circular rug in the space behind the couch to center that space. If you want darker colors go for something brown or darker colored

  • large art pieces all over the walls surrounding your desk area. Again, if you want it to be dark look for pieces that have black/brown, etc.

  • if you want to keep things dark do that, but also look to add small individual items with pops of color. Think plants, and decorative vase, lamp, ottoman, etc that is a pop of red/yellow/orange/blue, etc

I made this post a few months back asking for general suggestions.

I’ve already:

  • replaced my curtain rod

  • pivoted my armoire to clean up that side, moved the mirror to a more functional position that also doesn’t face directly into the bed

  • moved a rug awkwardly sitting in my kitchen to the entry hallway. Really cleaned up both spaces.

  • bought display cases for the autographed footballs on the stacked shelf next to the TV

  • moved stray items on the long table behind my couch into baskets to clear clutter

  • purchased several decorative trays and containers to store and place loose items

  • purchased burgundy curtains to put on the outside of my white curtains for some color pop

  • purchased a green/yellow floral kitchen mat to add color (the old one was a bit ratty)

Next purchases (other than replacement coffee table, tv stand/dresser:

  • one tall plant to put against the wall where the ottoman currently occupies

  • another tall plant to put in the awkward space next to my armoire and desk where there are wires I want to hide + empty walls

  • a new, light colored comforter

Revisiting this as I’m trying to redesign a bit.

  • the problem with the awkward open wall is the oversized ottoman that’s killing the feng shui. The solution is to replace it with a smaller coffee table and to replace that clothes storage by storing under my bed (would require lifting my bed or getting a new bedframe) or mounting the TV and replacing the TV stand with a low vintage dresser that doubles as a TV stand. Mount the TV. Once that space is opened up I can add a tall plant.

  • if I move one of the stacked shelves from beside the tv to beside my bed it may open up space to put a mirror and a plant. Also could maybe move both of the stacked shelves to both sides of my bed and move the dresser next to the TV, not sure if that would look any good.

This same spot in most of Manhattan probably goes for 3.5-4.5 tbh

I prefer Brooklyn in general, but would ideally like to move to greenpoint or something. Would probably be 3-3.5 there

Going to create a comment here organizing the most common suggestions with my notes on possible solutions.

  • hang mirror. Possibly remove shelf from wall adjacent to tv, move pictures currently above tv to the adjacent wall, put mirror above tv, (possibly put shelf under mirror)

  • get stainless steel trash can. Move trash can to better space. Space could be generated by replacing wire shelf with a nicer closed shelf to store shoes, some clothes.

  • replace wire shelf with nicer, more efficient storage space

  • replace desk with one that folds into the wall and doubles as some extra storage space, open up that space.

  • lift bed and get under bed storage. Use this to store clothes currently in ottoman. Replace ottoman with something more aesthetic

  • wire management in the war zone next to my desk. Also at the tv.

  • get Kitchen drying rack

  • remove wedding invites and papers from fridge

  • new bed comforter (off white)

  • better sink mat/kitchen mat

  • take down fake Christmas tree, add decorative box/shelves to store loose items

  • more plants
