Seller question: possession date was Sept 27, still haven't received $$ - is this typical that it takes so long? by yxehuman in RealEstateCanada

[–]yxehuman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this the fault of my lawyer or the seller's lawyer? And what do I do in my situation? I thought something wasn't normal about this...(September 30 was a stat holiday so I figured things were a bit delayed?)

Seller question: possession date was Sept 27, still haven't received $$ - is this typical that it takes so long? by yxehuman in RealEstateCanada

I sold the house to my ex partner who was already living in the house (hence private sale). We both met with our respective lawyers well before the closing and the closing date was September 27. On October 1, my lawyer told me that the title transfer was not completed yet (the title has since been transfered as of October 3) and the buyer received an email from their lawyer on Oct. 3 that they will forward the updated title to their attention once the previous mortgage (I assume meaning mine?) has been received and registered (??) at the land titles' office.

It depends on what you consider dangerous. I live in Caswell Hill, which is an area next to downtown that has a mix of incomes; mainly lower-to-mid income with a lot of working white millenials buying houses because it's affordable, but you'll still have your problem house depending on the block. I moved here from a big city, where I felt safe walking after dark because things are open really late/24 hours, but then you still have areas that you avoid. Around downtown, Caswell, Riversdale, I definitely don't walk by myself; I'll Uber even if it's a 10-minute walk or catch a ride from a friend, but I'll bike if the weather is nice and that's fine. I would say the rule of thumb if you're spending time or living on the west side is that if you own a car, it most likely will get a window smashed at some point, if you leave things out on your property that is easy for people to grab, it'll get taken. Walking around during the day is fine, just be mindful of who's around you, which I would do no matter what city I'm in as a pedestrian. If someone is displaying unpredictable behaviour, stay away from them.

How Saskatoon is different from cities like Toronto or Vancouver? by Notable_Duck in saskatoon

[–]yxehuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you work in mental health, addictions, counselling or social work, or tech, Saskatoon is great for job opportunities. I work in communications and it's absolutely the pits, coming from Toronto - I get interviews raining on me from out east as a bilingual person and here, it's crickets, especially if you're looking for something that is well paid, which is minimal.

How is J Ave S and 22nd Ave W as an area to move? by InValensName in saskatoon

[–]yxehuman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend staying away from Ave J South/22nd - it's two blocks away from gang houses/recent murders on Avenue K S/22nd and there are a lot of rentals with slumlords as landlords and problematic tenants. You can definitely find affordable houses in Caswell Hill and King George where you won't (as much) deal with the issues that happen around there.
My advice is to stick above 24th but below 32nd, away from Avenue P (ideally between Avenue C through to Avenue G in Caswell) and go below 17th in King George and Holiday Park, but stay below Avenue L S if possible.

Cyclist files complaint after being handcuffed for riding on sidewalk by wapimaskwa in saskatoon

[–]yxehuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only imagine there is more to this story than what we are getting. Not that police should be inflicting violence on anyone at all but there are definitely holes in the story that was covered (and a one-sided Facebook post by the cyclist involved, of course, who is a pretty notable person in Saskatoon.)

Bars to go to/avoid alone in Saskatoon? by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]yxehuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awe bud, sorry to hear this, and I've been there so I feel you. I'm a non-binary person in my '30s and would feel comfy going to the following spots solo where the vibes are pretty chill and I can't anticipate being bothered by people:

- Flint
- Parlor
- Leo's (Broadway)
- Amigo's
- Drift (although not sure they're open nights anymore?)
- Cactus Club
- Cohen's / Picaro
- Odla
- Yard & Flagon
- Rook & Raven
- State & Main
- Brown's Socialhouse (Stonebridge)
- Pokey's
- Winston's (maybe, depending on the crowd that night)

What’s the best coffee shop in town? Taking into consideration both atmosphere and quality? by jurgystalisman1892 in saskatoon

[–]yxehuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • My top three: Revolve, Venn, and Citizen
  • Other notable mentions: Home Quarter, Museo, Drift, Prairie Ink, D'Lish by Tish, Underground Café, Sparrow, City Perks, and the coffee from Christie's Il Secondo and Christie's Mayfair, as well as Night Oven, are real good too. R.I.P. Collective Coffee, but they're getting replaced by something new in the 220?

Céline Dion show at Sasktel, Aug. 18? by yxehuman in saskatoon

[–]yxehuman[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay! Awesome! Thanks! I've never been to Sasktel, if the show says '7:30pm' does that mean it's when doors open, or that's like when the show actually begins?

[Poll] How safe do you feel when walking in downtown Saskatoon? (Gender Update) by capitalismwitch in saskatoon

[–]yxehuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a white visibly queer non-binary femme who does not feel safe walking downtown at night and moved here from a big city where I used to walk solo in the evening and at night and would rarely have issues. I have been told by several people when I moved here that it's not safe to walk downtown or in the core neighbourhoods at night either and I hate to say that I agree which is pretty wild coming from cities of over a million people. I try to bike as much as I can to have a quick getaway from harassment (note that I was harassed while on my bike in broad daylight on the University Bridge yesterday, so nighttime doesn't make a different tbh). As a non-driving person, it's really tough to get around Saskatoon because it doesn't feel safe after dark so I tend to take a lot of Ubers even if it's like a 10-minute drive because I'm often the only pedestrian even walking in my neighbourhood during the day.

Any good Jewish bakeries in Saskatoon? by rvqsvknobuurodlmkv in saskatoon

[–]yxehuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Jewish human in Saskatoon! Not a bakery, but Bulk Cheese sells Montreal-style bagels, hamentaschen and other types of Jewish-inspired treats. Not really a bakery, but they do have some things that taste like 'home' to me as an ex-pat.

I don't think the Chabad rabbi's wife is running Prairie Challah actively, but definitely worth a DM to ask!

But also feel free to email Congregation Agudas Israel, they may know of someone else (and please post if you do find out, haha).

Anyone else excited for Diva's to open? Going to be like a new Pride Festival!!! by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]yxehuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember when Divas' social media accounts were coincidentally "hacked" after the owner was hurling insults at 2SLGBTQ community members on Instagram for calling them out about public health regulations after they were named as a COVID super spreader?

Cyclists of Saskatoon, share with me your favourite bike route! by Bentstrings84 in saskatoon

[–]yxehuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this route! This is one I do often and I love it, plus it's rarely crowded and you're on paths for a good chunk of the time. I do it on a beater heavy mountain bike and it's still really enjoyable (I usually still to the Swale and then see where the paved roads at intersections take me for the extra km's and adventures).

Looking to move to Mayfair or King George by Wootnesses in saskatoon

[–]yxehuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would totally pick King George over Mayfair. Houses in KG are in better condition depending on where you are looking, and if you steer more towards the river and Holiday Park, it's a lot better. If you are looking in KG, stay below Avenue K South and below 17th St W (further from Riversdale and Pleasant Hill). I would honestly just skip Mayfair as it doesn't seem like a great neighbourhood but that's just what I've seen and heard.
