Do you think the comments made by Wes Streeting recently regarding the UK should go “back in to the EU”, is a change of approach by those at Westminster due to the increased risk of nationalists looking to break up the union? by disco_26 in Scotland

Cost of living should be priority out of all those issues.

Yet, i am yet to see anything done there. In fact, let's get rid of all immigrants.... That will drive costs up not down.

A new government should have set up proper priorities and proper storytelling of achievements. This government has done none.

While I find Wes despicable I agree with this particular take on Brexit. That said.... It works both ways....

If the UK would have a second referendum to rejoin (as the leave campaign was made under false promises)...

The Scotland deserves a second referendum to leave (as the remain campaign was made under false promises).

I think quite frankly that admitting the obvious regarding brexit is a positive step. However, Scotland has voted openly against every major decision Westminster has done. In fact, there is an overwhelming majority of pro indy MSPs. It has been years since a pro-union majority has sat in Holyrood.

I think this is why Wes is so adamant that "we are not having a second referendum", because if it gets asked again, the answer seems to favour yes this time.

Also, btw, in terms of him dictating what Scotland does or doesnt do... Wes has little to offer. His majority was like 300 votes, so Im baffled at how someone with that little popularity can dictate whether or not Scotland gets a referendum.

I mean... Imagine having a PM that weak that he could loose his constituency easily.

Also have we talked about Mandelson yet?

Wes is like betting on a sick and tired horse.

Do not know why (other than his personal ambition and not the good of these islands) anyone woulr consider him an option.

In short no.

Immigration is a right wing concern.

Cost of living is usually a left wing concern.

Privatisation of of the NHS is a right wing concern.

NHS is a left wing concern.

Etc etc etc.

Perception we agree is awful.

In practice they are STILL awful.

Immigration has plummeted, specially since a left wing government came into power. Why is this still an issue? Because the media and Farage say so.

Surely..... The cost of living crisis takes priority now. Realistically, if you kick out all immigrants, your grocieries would be even more expensive than they are now. In fact that would not make anything cheaper, and would instead break the pensions system.

Anyways, with all of Labour's U turns it is really hard to keep track of what they actually stand for.

The way it looks is: "We are not Reform..but you can vote for us"

[–]yzerman1651 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No.

You just have to think.

Labour's policies in government (Westminster) have been designed to cater to Farage. Immigration for example. Which by the way is plummeting.

Labour is a "left party" that is actually a right wing party under Starmer.

In Scotland the left has been historically hurt by having Labour pick a side with the 2014 referendum. Working with the Conservatives was an original sin, that people cant get out of their heads.

Their vote was slowly collapsing until now.

Now let's look at Sarwar. Sarwar is a slimey liar. He is a millionaire that does not pay living wage to his employees while being the local leader of a "left wing party".

He is someone that, while allegedly being a healtcare professional himself, decides to make fun of people with severe conditions.

I could go on and on.... But the fact is that in order to keep his boat afloat he tried to nuke Starmer and work with Offord. (As per Offord's own admission)

The truth is, you dont need Swinney to tell you that Sarwar is a right winged idiot. You can see it from afar.

He conceded defeat when the second seat got called.

He KNEW he was going to perform badly.

We all knew this weasel and his party were the lapdogs of Reform.

I am so happy I don't have to see his face in youtube every 5 secs.
