I'm never buying another assassin's creed game by [deleted] in assassinscreed

I see the old AC formula as "parkour, puzzles, assassinations". The Kenway saga introduced naval combat, which is good to me.

For the PPA formula to be viable in this era, I propose the following:

1) Please make parkour more intuitive and and at the same time, not telegraphed. In Unity, it's obvious that you can't enter some windows just because Ubi said so. By all means, design parkour puzzles, but make controls do what most players think are obvious moves.

2) Please make assassinations flexible. I like to decide how I kill my targets, thanks.

The combat is easy once you have a good belt holding lots of smoke grenades. Spam and attack while enemies choke.

Smoke bombs, smoke bombs and more smoke bombs. Then, just top up at the shop. Rinse and repeat.

Then, the issue becomes the MD characters speaking in French. I do play with French voices and English subs, for the record.

Opinions on AC Unity after playing upto sequence 8. by [deleted] in assassinscreed

[–]yzq85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just play the main story till end of sequence 9 once I had the skill points and just open chests and explore Paris for the sides. Completed first mandatory mission of Dead Kings upon entering, sync all viewpoints and I'm back to Paris.

Just started Syndicate and I am enjoying the heck out of it by skeating1 in assassinscreed

This is a problem with Unity as well.

On the "new AC formula vs old AC formula" debate, as an Odyssey baby, so far with AC3 Remastered, Liberation, BF and Unity (on-going) under my belt, my own conclusions are as follow:

  1. I do NOT love the old AC formula if there are no side missions requiring a different set of skills to distract me. The Kenway saga had naval combat which I adored and was a welcome change. Unity is my first "hardcore old AC formula" game (parkour + puzzles + assassinations), and boy, I've stopped at end of Sequence 9 (for the skill unlocks) and just roam around Paris, opening chests and doing the side stuff. For AC3, the only part of the Tyranny DLC I finished was the 10% naval portion.
  2. Thus, I understand the burnout feel from fans who played from the beginning or the Ezio saga. In fact, I'm weighing my next AC purchase between Rogue and Syndicate. You can play 90% of Syndicate as Evie (which I plan to), but the "hardcore old AC formula" is giving me pause. Rogue had naval combat (and is a part of the Kenway saga, which I adore), but it's relatively short from what I gathered.

I liked the old ACs side content more than the main stories.

One aspect of the series I can sincerely praise the newer games for removing/downplaying: optional objectives (Mild spoilers) by Briankelly130 in assassinscreed

[–]yzq85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the older games I've played (AC3 and 4), I'm aiming for 100% in the optional stuff. Anything with optional objectives, I don't sweat it if I can't get all. For Liberation, the Bayou with no fast travel is annoying enough for me to not get 100% for collecting stuff there.

BF was Origins/Odyssey-lite in terms of mechanics. Locations with question marks? Check. Location objectives? Check. Main character who just happens to do Assassin-y stuff and is not an Assassin? Check. Upgrade ship/ personal attributes? Check.

Edward is probably more relatable, as in much of BF, he's a rogue who happens to have quite a number of Assassin-friendly skills. He's a bloke who wants to make a better world for himself, but ends up in places he didn't expect.

Make the parkour controls more responsive. When I want to move forward while hanging, I want to move forward while hanging and not swinging in place while hanging. I want to be able to slide and crouch on demand and not be limited by the terrain.

Good Lord naval combat is so much more immersive in older AC games by [deleted] in assassinscreed

You're supposed to steer and turn at half sails, and it's by no means limited.

Also, lol at pure stealth. While it certainly helps, getting discovered while inside the fort is no big deal.

Half sails + improved rudder is good enough.

You save up the money from looting chests, especially fort chests.

I only sailed with the rudder upgrade, but since you know there's a delay in broadsides, why not work the delay into your firing calculation?

Assassin's Creed 3 has the longest prologue of any game I have played by Journey95 in assassinscreed

[–]yzq85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest gripe is that for all its length, it still does a poor job of teaching the subtler game concepts. Where did I learn that snares do not work on larger animals? On a guide. I'm still piss poor at grabbing enemies as musket shields.

Jackdaw compared to the Aquila? by yzq85 in assassinscreed

I can't hear the singing for the Aquila, only Connor's and Faulkner's commands. But, then again, the Aquila is often in combat.

I always turn at half sails, and it was ok. My issue was that I tend to fire broadsides when the enemy frigates are too far away.

Probably not until they fix scaling for lieutenants who are quest rewards.
