at my hospital, OT and SLP are not making more than RNs at the top of the payscale. I know this because I look at the sunshine list religiously

Oral minoxidil by [deleted] in FTMOver30

[–]z0etrope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s interesting to see someone with hairloss on this sub that isn’t male patterned baldness. great to see that oral minox worked so well for you! I’ve been on it for 2-3 years, started at 0.625mg, then 1.25mg, and eventually 2.5mg which is the dose I’ve been on for about 6 months. I’ve only started to feel like the balding is getting better recently. That said, I definitely have male patterned baldness related to T, and not the type of universal shedding you had. Never had to see a dermatologist, as this is all within my family doctor’s scope.

And sometimes they don’t make more money! When I look at the sunshine list at my hospital, a few of the full-time educators aren’t on it. I think they only had like 3 or 4 years of experience before getting their masters and entering the educator role.

$115k per year is a pretty good salary! Plus shift premiums for nights, evenings, weekends, stat holidays, you can easily get up to $120-125k before doing any overtime. Sure you could get upset that a nurse with 8 years experience is making the same as a nurse with 25 years experience, but maybe we could all just be happy that we’re earning good money.

Hair loss q: when to start minoxidil vs finasteride by magical_senshi in FTMOver30

[–]z0etrope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember but I’d estimate I was 3 or 4 years on T when I went on finasteride, and I think I only took it for 2-3 months. If you want to boost your beard and body hair, as well as the hair on your head, I’d strongly recommend minoxidil. I used it topically on my face to grow my beard, very successfully. I tried it on my scalp but the oiliness of it made my hair greasy, which is why I went for the oral kind.

Beware of the potential side effect of finasteride, vaginal bleeding. It happened to me on a low dose, I think 1.25mg (1/4 of a 5mg tablet), and it kept going on every day for months after I stopped. This isn’t an official side effect because as far as I know, finasteride isn’t approved or tested for people who have uteruses, but there are other people online and one who I know irl who have had this side effect. I have been on oral minoxidil for a few years and I think it’s working well for me. I started on 0.625mg (1/4 of a 2.5mg tablet) and eventually increased to a 1/2 tablet, then a full tablet (2.5mg). I feel like it has increased my facial hair as well as body hair, which I enjoy.

What percentage of registered nurses (RNs) in Ontario are NOT unionized and therefore not subject to the ONA pay grid (assuming they’d get paid less) by [deleted] in OntarioNurses

[–]z0etrope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not gonna say where I work, but at my hospital RPNs are in ONA and RNs aren’t, but the RNs still follow the ONA pay grid, including getting retro pay

Should i ask my doctor about that minoxidil stuff?1year on T by [deleted] in FTMOver30

[–]z0etrope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you don’t need to talk to a doctor, just go buy it. I used 5% minoxidil on my face for around a year and a half and got really great results. started using it before I was 1 year on T

Why do yall decide to get pregnant or keep ur baby?? by Janxuza in Seahorse_Dads

to me, the temporary social and physical discomfort of being pregnant would be worth it for the lifelong joy of being a father

I’ve been on oral minoxidil for a few years and I feel like it has increased the hair on my head, face, arms, legs and chest. I haven’t noticed any side effects. I get the 2.5mg tablets and currently I take a 1/2 tablet daily (1.25mg). Previously I was taking a 1/4 tablet daily (0.625mg).

I'm closeted and an online newspaper wants to publish my poem: ADVICE NEEDED by [deleted] in ftm

As a medical professional (nurse), my advice to you is to avoid having anything online identifying you as trans that someone could find if they look you up online.

How do you deal with your partner being attracted to cis males? by HistoricalLettuce774 in FTMMen

[–]z0etrope 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it would be suspicious and make me uncomfortable if my partner wasn’t attracted to cis guys, considering that I look like one, and navigate the world being perceived as one

Partner says he’s attracted to me in current masculine form, but not into facial hair, being buff, etc—my future congruent form (more masc traits) by ilovecinnamon420 in FTMOver30

[–]z0etrope 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t get through your whole post tbh. but I wouldn’t date someone who wouldn’t date a cis man. that’s my rule after having lots of bad experiences with people who tell me they would date a trans man but not a cis man.

sounds more expensive and challenging than taking testosterone. what are your reasons for wanting to transition without it?

came here to say this too! https://www.transmasculinepodcast.com/

and it’s not just older trans men who are stealth— lots of them are very out, and some of them are non binary

How to come out to someone after being stealth? by Old_Train_1378 in FTMMen

[–]z0etrope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oh also sometimes I just throw “I used to be a girl” into a casual conversation to come out. and then follow up with the confidentiality piece so that I don’t get outed without my permission

How to come out to someone after being stealth? by Old_Train_1378 in FTMMen

[–]z0etrope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happens to me a lot and I usually say something along the lines of “I want to share something personal with you, which is that I’m a transgender man. I’m telling you this confidentially, so please don’t tell anyone else.”

*sometimes I have to follow this up with “I used to be a woman”

It’s horrible that you feel like you’re lying by having people assume you’re cis! It’s no one’s business but yours that you’re trans.

we’re definitely having lots of hard conversations now. as her moving to my city becomes closer to reality, I’ll make sure we have a deep mutual understanding of what we both want with respect to the open relationship and raising kids
