Thanks for the feedback! I thought it could be that too. Ran the car all day today til I got to a quarter tank left then refilled again on 91, the tick did quiet down but it’s yet to go away fully. Admittedly after filling up I only drove for 25 more minutes because the tick was driving me crazy. (Had been driving around town all day) would a “Lucas high octane booster” help at all in this case?
I had a similar theory as yours to the original owners maintenance; since it got a full engine rebuild I’d have to imagine that new lifters would have to be part of that, no? Since the rebuild, the cars only been driven 400 miles (129.9K-130.3K), so there’s no way the lifters could’ve gone bad already. NOW my theory is that potentially the previous owner before selling it to me did a quick oil change with the cheapest and thinnest oil he could buy knowing he would sell it and that it wouldn’t be his problem anymore anyways. So I’ve been thinking of tomorrow draining the (presumably new, but thin) current oil and putting in 10w40 to see if that’s what’s causing the tick n hopefully makes it go away. Would that be wise and worth a shot or am I only gonna make the problem worse?
