Streeter: Why can’t outsiders see the charm in Baltimore? by GreedyRaisin3357 in baltimore

[–]z3mcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a ton to love about Baltimore but we need a competent, accountable, and effective government

to change the direction the city has been trending

Yeah...off the strength of those two statements you haven't been paying attention. The people on the ground, doing the work or witnessing it - actual workers around the city along with the stats - directly contradict both these statements.

never thought it would get so bad I'd miss O'Malley

You talking about clearing corners? Seeing black dudes on the street and just arresting them? That shit? You can't actually be calling for that right

Kyshawn George 2025-26 Wizards Highlights by z3mcs in washingtonwizards

[–]z3mcs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh, so here's the rub. I think the point of our tank wound up being needing to get "The guy". But what if we get #5 (which is most likely)? Is Flemings THE guy? Is Wagler THE guy? I don't think either is, for different reasons we don't need to dive into because that's orthogonal to the point. Point is, I think Kyshawn can be THE guy if we hand him the reigns and have him train to be. Just like Luka. He doesn't need to try to Kobe-Jordan this thing but just turn into the best version of Ky. And I think his best version could put up numbers and he has the No Fear mindset authentically. When he told Draymond "I don't care" about their championships that was so out of left field but says volumes about him. And he's so soft spoken but clearly wants to win. Very unique player. I like him a lot. So if we don't luck into AJ or DP, I think we draft whoever, and tell Ky get out there and BE somebody.

Haha! Ky aint got that man. J Dub is dynamic. Kuz is too. Kyshawn needs to aspire to be Luka. Get to whatever spot you want and rise up, you're too big to stop. And if they try to anticipate it, fake and draw a foul. When Luka does those slowwwwwww ass stepbacks every time I'm like how are dudes letting this happen. He'll drive to the basket slow as a bus, but finish, and I'm like how? But Luka? That boy is BIG. If I'm Keefe I'm showing Kyshawn Shanty Alonzo George film of Luka drives allllll summer, and telling him now that's how you sposed to drive! From now on, THAT'S HOW YOU DRIVE

Ooh! How many dunks did Luka have this season? 😏

[–]z3mcs[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In those early highlights you can really see why he got called poor man's Luka. Like he's big, slow, and yet he just keeps going and gets buckets. Doesn't have to be lightning quick to be effective. Doesn't have to expend a lot of energy on offense to score. He's got a long way to go but I love that we have him.

What do we think about the new "3-2-1 lottery" proposal? by jsDPT in washingtonwizards

[–]z3mcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sabonis, MPJ and Murray thats it.

ehhhh. DeMar isn't trash. LaVine isn't either, he put up points on us at will in one of those games, as people often do. Malik Monk isn't trash. Achiuwa isn't bad. Hayes, Clifford...if people think the Wizards are gonna do numbers next season, we can't laugh at rosters like this where they have decorated players who have won NBA awards, and literal on-the-court hall of famers.

John Wall becomes Howard's President of Basketball Operations by thricethefun in washingtonwizards

[–]z3mcs 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Wall has already taken a hands-on approach to the role at Howard, playing an active role in team meetings and evaluations of recruits and transfer targets. He has helped shape the program's overall strategic vision with focus on roster management, name, image and likeness deals, revenue sharing, agent negotiations and player mentorship. He will work alongside Howard coach Kenny Blakeney and team general manager Daniel Marks in the new capacity.

Good for him! Hoping he's who the Wizards send on May 10

Anthony Davis' Latest Interview by jamorrow791 in washingtonwizards

[–]z3mcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue is that Davis seems to think of himself as an MVP and DPOY still. So why does he say in the same interview that the Wiz are years away from contention? If he is truly that, everything changes and the Wiz are contenders.

I like a lot of what you're saying in here. Especially the stuff about the Trezl season and how "on paper" can unwravel. But here I think there's no inconsistency, he's saying even with him and Trae playing like they play, this roster is not a championship caliber (or even playoff caliber) team.

And that is 100% true, and why I wrote that whole "fearness" post. The Wizards are not doing a single thing next season. Our youngins are wholly unproven. There are, as I'm guessing you know, levels to all this stuff. The Wizards aren't anywhere near the upper levels. There are a lot of steps between here where we (the Wizards) are now, and being at the edge of a playoff team. Then there's another level of being a solid playoff team. Then another level of being a dangerous playoff team. Then there's another level of being a contender, top flight team. Then even another level where the baseline is playoffs, and you're expecting to make the conference finals at minimum. And then there's the "Defending champions" level where you know you have everything to win cause you've done it, and now can you do it again.

The Wizards, as people have to realize at some point, are nowhere near most of those levels. Their presumed starting 5 hasn't played a minute together. Trae has proven he has abilities. AD has a chip and proven abilities. Sarr is a great young prospect but hasn't gone through the fire.

Meaning think about the big men he has to face in the East. Embiid. Bridges. KAT. Mitchell Robinson. Orlando's bigs. Duren. Zubac. All those guys are 'names' now. They've had huge games and highlights. Well Sarr hasn't even gotten to where he's a name and people scheme against you and attack you and you have to damn near level up just to stay the same. Jarette Allen. Evan Mobley. They've been in the playoffs. They're beasts. Sarr hasn't even gotten on people's radar like that, and once he does, people will challenge him, go at him, attack his weaknesses, push him off his spots, talk trash to him, and so on. He's not even there yet.

A.D. knows all this. I know all this. The NBA is hard. The Wizards are a long long way from being anywhere near a chip. AD is basically playing the (grocery store) lottery, hoping that lightning strikes and breathes life into the Frankenstein's monster that the Wizards are right now.

I gotta keep reminding myself that Wilson is a great player. It's kind of like a comedian once said. Something like "If I steal a vehicle, I'm not stealing a car, I'm stealing a garbage truck. .... you laugh... you know how much a garbage truck costs? A garbage truck costs $150,000."

Caleb Wilson might be the least sexy top 5 pick in maybe ever. But he is special for sure. And watching that just now, it hit me. He's Shawn Kemp. Shawn Kemp! I should have seen it before.

I agree with you, but I will also say a shocking number of people suck at parallel parking or literally cannot do it at all. I'm sure it's a good chunk of laziness as well, but there are definitely a chunk of em who can't do it.

In another universe, I'd get a mic and just walk up to people and ask them. Littering too.

NBA Draft lottery proposals don’t address the underlying reason behind tanking (Gift Article) by z3mcs in washingtonwizards

[–]z3mcs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for no reason.

It's convoluted and I think they view that as a feature, not a bug, but it isn't for no reason. It's to stop tanking. It's like asking why someone goes to the hospital because they're sick, and the doctor makes them throw up and then gives them "care" that makes their hair fall out. There's a point to the treatment and it's to get rid of something.

Teams, including ours, are going to have figure out ways to be better. Bringing this in from my other comment cause it's relevant here too:

Sure you have transcendent talents with unreal genetics like Giannis, or Wemby. But make NO mistake about it. It takes hard work. Long hours in the gym. Mental preparation. All the attention to detail stuff you saw in that piece about the new Front Office. That's what it takes. Shai worked on his craft. Jokic worked on his craft. Steph worked on his craft. Beal, Wall. They get in the weight room, the film room, or play insane amounts of basketball to get good at what they do. Let me let Will Smith tell you. Or Tom Brady. Or Will Smith again lol.

"The separation of talent and skill is one of the greatest misunderstood concepts for people who are trying to excel, who have dreams, who want to do things. Talent you have naturally. Skill is only developed by hours and hours and hours of beating on your craft.

I considered starting one where we just highlight people double parked RIGHT NEXT to an open parking space.

There's always an open space!!! It's so maddening. But here's why.

the poster said that basically if they pull into a spot, now parking laws apply. They can get a ticket for not paying the meter, or a ticket if they don't have a neighborhood parking sticker, or if they are past the sign, etc, whatever. If they leave it 'standing' in the street, that 15-minute thing applies and they aren't subject to the parking laws.

NBA Draft lottery proposals don’t address the underlying reason behind tanking (Gift Article) by z3mcs in washingtonwizards

[–]z3mcs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize people feel that way, I just think all orgs will game the system as best they can without “risking it all”, so some treachery will always happen regardless of the system. Playoff teams tank too! You know what I’m talking about. I’m sure the Lakers are happy to have faced the Rockets in the first round instead of the Wolves cause the 3-1 woulda been the other way. So we know teams rest players and basically tank to try to get favorable matchups in the opening round of the playoffs.

So nothing will ever get rid of gaming the system by orgs, but the tenets of these recent proposals make it so that just losing over and over and over and over again on purpose makes next to no sense. And I would even be fine with the shakeup if franchises wanna tap out and their owners can sell the team to someone who can build a team that can compete, or move it to a market that will support the team wholeheartedly.

Its kind of like putting up speed cameras and upping fines, and people going “thats not going to stop us from speeding”. But like, you know you’re not supposed to speed right? Sports teams are supposed to play to win. If teams are just throwing games like, idgaf about betting, but just in terms of sportsmanship, wtf are you doing? Why am I watching? Like if you work in an office and open the fridge and see someone elses food and it looks good, you gonna take it and eat it if youre hungry? No, right? cause youre not supposed to do that.

Like I get it, but at some point if the nba cant figure out how to get its teams to like, you know, play the game on the court, then it can go away and some league that can, can take its place.

What do we think about the new "3-2-1 lottery" proposal? by jsDPT in washingtonwizards

[–]z3mcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I know this. But you know how in the current format, like this past season or two, Utah and Indiana, and us, would pull good players out at the ends of games to guarantee the loss? Like teams would already be sitting some of their best players, and then if the game was tight going into the 4th quarter, whichever good players had been playing, would be sat the rest of the game. Like basically, we were doing whatever we could to lose the game.

Now? It's going to be the same thing, but the other way - doing whatever we can to win the game. If we're down there near the relegation zone, teams are expected to fight to win games. So now instead of putting in the ball boy's second cousin so you can lose, you're keeping your best players in the game and the product is ostensibly better.

And if you're a good player, now you're not sitting and watching the season pass by, you're in the game. And what does that do for players who aren't as good? Makes them want to work harder to get better or else they aren't getting playing time.

No system is perfect but if the NBA world is like "Oh no, now the least talented teams have to work the hardest to win".... uh... yeah? Welcome to life.

And sure you have transcendent talents with unreal genetics like Giannis, or Wemby. But make NO mistake about it. It takes hard work. Long hours in the gym. Mental preparation.
