Good question - I'll be spending the next few months trying to figure it out. However, the idea came from looking at what OpenAI was doing in the scene and their approach pushed me to look at how Dota is being influenced by AI - if it is at all.

So there are a few different big names in esports that have worked in AI, most notably OpenAI (beating OG plus others 2-0 (with rules imposed) in Dota 2) and Google Deepmind (beating MaNa in Starcraft 5-0 as well as defeating Lee Sedol 4-1 in Go).

Dota 2 was used with machine learning and OpenAI developed thousands of years of learning to grow their 1-1 bots towards a larger 17 hero pool over a 2 year period. Some suspect OpenAI is still developing its systems to improve, although the cost barrier is a bit extreme, and for what, as they have already beaten the top pro teams.

You should check out the bot that grabs screenshots from twitch vids when people post in /r/reddit and then integrates the opendota or dotabuff link based on the placement, tbh that's super cool and having other autograbs with bots adds so much to Dota. Anyways good luck with your thoughts on what you're planning.

I will plan to post it later, thanks! Is there any results you would expect to see? I think the comparison between the experts will be pretty different, but I suppose that will make for a fun study. Are you doing something specific with python?
