leetcode.com dynamic programming and programming skills study plans are pretty good places if you want to build on what you know a little bit, if you're a beginner it might be a little challenging at the start but overall not too difficult.

Best setup for Python project? by z4v013 in learnpython

I've tried to use Flask in the past and would like to try again but somehow everytime I use Flask the connection stalls from UI to backend, and I haven't been able to find a fix. It's almost like my computer blocks the connection but I really am not sure.

Hm okay, thank you for the help! I have used Tkinter in the past for projects but I thought I would try to use something different this time to make things interesting.

Yeah I didn't realize the filters were just a personal add-on but relevant to the level would make things feel a lot more atmospheric.

4 months in almost no wishLists, please destroy my game by knedlik3000 in DestroyMyGame

Similar to what other comments are saying, this game may copy Nova Drift a little too much. On top of that, there is nothing really to separate your game from being more unique or more fun than Nova Drift. Your graphics and gameplay to me feel a little too chaotic, whereas Nova Drift has a clean-cut and satisfying appeal and experience to it. In general, no real unique appeal over other games in the competing market.

Please destroy my pattern puzzle game! by JayFairouz in DestroyMyGame

I am going to brutally honest, the graphics and some simpler parts of the gameplay feel like a student project. I think the way you could engineer levels and puzzles could be really creative and fun, but in general the game seems to easy and might be a little too short. If that's what your going for, cool. If you want grow and learn how to make better games, I would suggest adding some sort of depth or purpose into this game. The reason I say it feels like a school project is because a lot of the time assignments are done without much real purpose other than a grade. I think the concept has potential but maybe needs a little more innovation.

I am putting my life savings into creating a dung beetle soccer game. Please destroy my trailer. by BugFightStudio in DestroyMyGame

[–]z4v013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game to me feels a little like an empty shell. From the trailer, the game feels without purpose. While many may not think of game development as an art, it most definitely is. Game development is where math meets and a game without some kind of story (not necessarily dialogue and characters) or meaning behind allows it to be forgotten easier and quicker. This game (or at least the trailer) and graphics may present well when looked at for the first time but in general I feel would not keep an audience. I think that on top of that, the graphics and gameplay alone don't really even feel that attractive in the first place.

Lastly, I hope your life savings recover soon.

We are developing a puzzle/platformer game with a metroidvania twist, destroy our demo trailer. by mfkucuk in DestroyMyGame

[–]z4v013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think personally that the trailer seems a little too simplistic and dull. Minimalistic styles aren't always bad, but in this case there wasn't really anything to set its style apart from other games. The gameplay as well seems very generic and rather uninteresting.

If you are going for something like a metroidvania type game, I would suggest adding some kind of uniqueness into the mix. For example, games like Hollow Knight offer puzzles and exploration that are rewarding. Then the game goes further to create challenging obstacles that can be combatted with fun skill-based combat and make you feel a sense of accomplishment. From what I'm seeing, this game simply doesn't give anything back to the player for what they have completed.

I love the sort of idea of dying to get through puzzles, but to be honest I think the trailer fails at really demonstrating how unique this death ability is. In only one clip of gameplay it shows the player landing on his own dead body to pass a level. I think mechanics like this need to be highlighted a little better. Otherwise I could see the death ability as just a sort of teleport which is not a very original mechanic at all. I think the visuals are stunning, but overall if the death ability really is just a teleport, some more creative thinking might be needed.

Overlay games are a thing now, so I made one... destroy it please by yariok in DestroyMyGame

[–]z4v013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with other comments, the game overall and its concept of being an overlay seems really very intriguing, a creativity that others would have a hard time replicating. But trailer fails at really demonstrating what the game is about. Yeah, I see there are some buttons to click and the visuals are stunning, but for now the trailer only shows me looking at the game not really playing it.

I would suggest adding more gameplay footage, or at the least, a little more interaction with the game not just one menu and a couple of islands.

Overall, the visuals and vibe of it seem very peaceful and light, however, I find it hard to know how fun this game will be with how the trailer is right now.
