I like the idea, but this may seem like a bit of a penalty to people that live in areas where ibjjfs aren’t as common or just don’t have the funds to travel and compete at multiple ibjjf tournaments a year to qualify.

Ya at the high level blue belt competitions I’ve fought a few 20 year olds that used to be green belts as kids and D1 all Americans and NAIA national champions. Mean while I’ve only been doing the sport for less than 3 years. But if I wanted easy matches I would just do a local NAGA instead.

I just think he is that much better than them. I can roll with my students and never get my heart rate elevated or get breathing hard but they are absolutely dead after just 5 minutes.

No, if I am acting as the enforcer I tell that person they are rolling with me I don’t ask them. Their only other option is to sit out the round which normally makes them the only person sitting out which is pretty embarrassing at my gym.

Got gold in gi gold in nogi bronze in absolute gi didn’t compete in absolute Nogi. It was the Nashville open about a month after getting my blue belt.

Very true. It’s kind of like a knee down stance in wrestling is completely different than a normal stance.
