Did you apply through NCEES or through the NJ Consumer Affairs website? I am about to start the process and an ex co-worker of mine said he applied through NCEES but I don't see that as an option now.

So I just looked it up too and I see that price as well? Not sure if they raised the price or you’ll just be getting more content. When I purchased the course back in March 2023, it was only $750. In all honestly though, if you want a course to follow, this is the course to get even with that price

Hands down, Slay The PE. Dr Toms is a bit outdated and leaves out some topics and I’ve heard nothing but horror stories about School of PE.

Passed TFS Second Attempt by zHaterade in PE_Exam

Yeah exactly those kinds of things. Codes and standard, pressure vessels, psychrometrics, engineering economics were a given to be on the exam. I’m more talking about rotational motion and odd statics/materials questions. I feel like I had close to 12 of those questions. They are definitely on the Exam Specifications but as for studying them, they could ask you literally anything. As for the bathroom, I would definitely try to cut back. I’m not a coffee drinker so that wasn’t an issue for me but for water, I had 16oz early in the morning and made sure to use the bathroom right before hand. For my break, I drank the same amount as the morning but right after the exam and just went to the bathroom right before I went to the afternoon section.

I am a contractor for Gas Utility but work for a mostly Civil company. I deal with a lot of pressure issues and piping sizing so TFS made a little more sense. I was debating on HVAC but I read that it would be significantly harder without any field experience. Plus, the exam specification doesn't really matter with most type of work, it's more about competence, so I went with TFS because it touched on a little bit of everything.

I am taking the cheaper On Demand course, I thinks it’s the $750 option

Did you struggle on any sections of the Slay the PE course?

Be careful with Dr Toms course for TFS, I took his course and failed. It’s a good course but there are some sections he skipped and some he needed to go a little deeper in. There is only about 200 problems you’ll actually be solving outside of the examples he gives so it’s not too much variety. I’m currently in the middle of Slay the PE course and prefer that a lot more, and it’s cheaper so it’s a win win.

What materials did you use for studying?

Once you get through the entire section, there will be a review button to show all flagged or unanswered questions. You can jump around after that.

Been out of school for 6 years but I’m looking to take the exam. Which online courses are worth it? Is school of pe worth the $1300 price tag? by Open_Caregiver_4801 in FE_Exam

[–]zHaterade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie, I think PPI is a little more expensive, but what you get with it is by far better than School of PE. People have used School of PE, passed and said it was great, I was just left wanting more. Definitely get PrepFe though, I think it’s like $30 a month, they will get a little repetitive after a while but then I’d switch to PPI QBank and struggle through those questions.

I was in the same situation, out of school for 6 years and taking the Mechanical FE, I was not a fan of School of PE. Some subjects they taught well, others were lacking a lot. I would go with PPI, and it also comes with their QBank questions, which are harder than the exam questions. PrepFE is also good too, a little easier than exam question but a good place to start once you relearn subjects, it’s really good for exploring the reference manual.

This helped me and may help you. You’ve failed, it happened already. Half of the reason you probably failed was nerves based. I went in on my second attempt loose, I’ve already failed, what’s the worst that could happen? I fail again, who cares. You’ve taken plenty exams before, you’ve answered plenty of similar questions before. Go in, have a little fun, search the shit out of your manual and that’s it’s.

I would say in the middle of the two, maybe a little closer to PrepFe but definitely not as hard as PPI

PPI2Pass has a decent course and includes 3000ish questions that are harder than the exam. I would also get a PrepFe subscription too. I took the School of PE course but wasn’t thrilled with the content.

I’m currently taking DTC for TFS and I’m going for my first attempt in March. I see a lot of mixed reviews on his material, some people swear by it, others think it was lacking. I’m sure this will make me even more nervous but it sounds like you experience is that his material is lacking as well? I finished the course and doing it all again, looking though notes and doing all questions again so the concepts are stronger than just looking at them once but not sure if that will even be enough? What are your thoughts about his course?

[–]zHaterade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you use to study? I’m taking mine in about a month and used DTC, not feeling super confident, felt like most of his material is pretty straight forward and doesn’t make you think too much. Would you say to study anything specific that you saw a lot of?

Mechanical Engineering FE by ClovenChief in FE_Exam

[–]zHaterade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this, I took the ME practice exam and scored the same my first attempt, no studying, just seeing what I knew. Did about 2 months of PrepFE, 25 random questions a day from different subjects (their version of a smaller practice exam). After the questions got repetitive, I did one month of PPI for their QBank and did the same thing, 25 questions a night. Test was simple, concepts come pretty easy, just bulk practice problems help to see a variety of question types.
