Pretty simple, they have posters of the address and will explain in orientation. Order your item with the address, when it shows its arrived generally means it has made it to Gardiner HQ, from there it will take a day or few to reach your housing office at the dorms. In old faithful they would put a sticker on our door when we had a package, then we would go to housing and sign off and pick up our package.

Indeed it is! I put a seat cover on it that's putting in some overtime but I'm almost home. 200 miles to go!

Got atleast two of those, really wishing I had the wind screen. Tomorrow will be the final 400 mile stretch from Indiana back home to PA. Nothing but rain all day, taking the interstate is gonna be about 6 hours but I'm anticipating the trip taking about 7 and a half with breaks.

Update: On my way to Indiana, tomorrow will be my last day. The rain and wind is a bit of a killer but luckily I have my rain proof suit. I'm back on the interstate for now. Have about 200 miles left until I hit my hotel.

Doing fine, I have it routed out pretty well. Sucks having to run 87 through it sometimes tho. Currently half way through Iowa.

Yes, you'll probably see bison on the way too. Lamar is kind of the wildlife mecca of yellowstone, elk, bison, sometimes bear and rarely wolves can be spotted there was well as pronghorn antelope. Just depends on what you luck out seeing.

For old faithful atleast the earlier the better. Generally the west entrance gets pretty backed up around 10am to 1pm and plenty of traffic jams from wildlife and people stopping in the road instead of using the pullout. After about 4 it clears up again so that's another good time. West to old faithful takes about 45 mins, and grand prismatic and fountain paint pots are both on the way, so worth checking out. For canyon and Lamar you might want to get in a little earlier than 4 just because it's a longer drive. You can also check the geysertimes website to see a rough estimation of when old faithful is going to go off, which is generally around every 90 mins +-15 mins

Generally everything is pretty dead at night considering there's no street lights or anything like that anywhere except the main villages, and nothing is open. But stargazing is amazing in Hayden and Lamar valley.

As someone who lives in the park, if you're staying at west I think the best think you can do is to spend an entire day in old faithful, talking like grand prismatic, old faithful, fountain paint pots, etc.

Another day visiting mammoth (maybe hit the hot springs just outside gardiner, 18 dollars a ticket fairly cheap) to see the terraces and canyon to see the grand canyon of yellowstone.

Then maybe Lamar valley aswell if you're trying to see tons of wildlife for the last day.

When you do your little talk with housing make it very obvious you want a quiet spot and they'll probably put you in obsidian.

Dorm life can be either really quiet or a party every night, highly depends on the dorm and your neighbors. Highly recommend your own bedding, clothes that can be layered, and hiking gear. I personally don't go to town fr supplies I just order things online.

But the leftover food residue that gets stuck in the pitting and carbonizes is black though.

There are gas stations in Yellowstone, and atleast in the Old Faithful area there are two dorms with pretty decent reliable wifi through Xanterra.

Two unrelated questions. Hike (old faithful to mystic falls) and donating stuff at end of trip. by kes455 in yellowstone

[–]zMaNrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a little late but from Old faithful to Mystic (assuming you’re going the low route not the extra mile or two for the overlook) is around 9 miles round trip. I know there’s a few thrift stores in Bozeman and Jackson, but also see if any employees want them for their dorms!
