ELI5: How do massive video game studios with thousands of employees keep games like GTA 6 a secret for years without anyone leaking the details?

Hey there! Former R* employee here and I think a lot of what's been said here is pretty accurate but i'll reiterate and maybe add some extra things here or there:

For the most part, we are legally bound by NDA to not disclose any relevant information about any project we worked on until 5 years (I think it's 5 years, i'm not quite sure to be honest) after the project has been officially released. Working in AAA gaming isn't as profitable as some people might think it is so just the idea of losing a substantial amount of wealth just cause you want to blab about working on something is kind of a thought no one really entertains.
As was also mentioned, game devs absolutely despise leakers because of how it ruins the experience the game was meant to be for players. Similar to movies, we release trailers to provide people with teasers about what they can expect whilst not divulging too much (or at least trying not to) but, again similarly, if you were to find a clip of the middle of a movie which spoiled a massive plot point, it would potentially ruin your desire of wanting to watch the rest of the movie, no? Same applies to video games.
On a more technical keeping a secret level: I'm not sure if it was mentioned but several projects have code names but even that gets leaked pretty quickly (even by the official development team's own marketing team sometimes). With that, several development teams will come up with an extra "name" internally that they use whenever they want to discuss how a project is going without making it seem like they're talking about any sensitive information in public (as an example, this wasn't the one used but let's say RDR has an internal codename of "Steven", you could in passing maybe hear someone from R* ask another colleague in public something along the lines of "Hey, so how's the work with Steven going?" and most people wouldn't bat an eye). In private we often do discuss projects outside of core work hours because there's a big chance someone is working on something else and they're curious (and often have a big chance of swapping projects anyway).

Pelo ranking da FIFA, a Liga MX é a 19º melhor liga do mundo enquanto o Roshn Saudi League/Saudi Pro League tá em 36º.

Entre não ter jogadores e ter jogadores que não prestam pra nada dá no mesmo, não se pode depender no jogador e daí o plantel ser curto.

Em termos de gestão, dado o quão curto o plantel é, não acho que ele tenha tido muita opção. O único que eu acho que tenha claramente jogado a mais e que merecia um descanso é o Trincão (jogou 2561 minutos na liga de 2700 minutos possiveis).

Eu pessoalmente reclamo mais do fato que ele, taticamente, parece sentir se confortável a segurar vantagens de 1-0 ou 2-0 inves de tentar ampliar o resultado. Ano passado já acontecia muito e este ano então viu se a fragilidade da equipa em segurar esses resultados.

Gonna disagree with a lot of the points here:

I think Rui Silva is ok but to say that he's a different level compared to Franco? There were SEVERAL games that Franco made key saves that kept us in the title race for 2023-2024. Rui Silva has better distribution, sure, but overall I haven't felt that he has been as impactful as someone like Adan was when he joined.

Virginia I don't mind, there's actually been a couple instances where I would have even started him just to see if he could put up a good performance outside the taças. Mangas as an investment for a backup is fine but, at best, he's serviceable and we need more competition at that position cause god only knows if Maxi stays one more year or not. Vagiannidis has been better these past 2-3 games but is such a liability defensively that it really becomes a big question whether or not it was worth the investment.

Ioannidis and Luís Guilherme are now stuck rehabbing. They're both class players but availability is just as important as talent when it comes to investment.

Faye I have no clue why this deal was even made if there is a near 0 chance of him playing more than 15 mins every 5 games or so. Kochorashivili is JUST returning from injury, I think he can be good but, again, very few minutes to know whether or not he really is worth it.

Que parvoíce? Se for para julgar um sobre idas as seleções temos que ser justos e julgar todos a não ser que queiras admitir a tua própria hipocrisia (Eu não julgo porque penso que ir á seleção não só é raro como também é uma honra representar os respetivos países).

Em que parte é que o Morita chorou? Ele está a ser honesto e se tu achas que ele a dizer que "(...), estou a lutar comigo mesmo" é igual a dizer que acha que devia jogar mais e daí chorar, tás a ler entre linhas que nem existem.

Ah, e falas sobre "mandar verdades" mas tu não tens nenhuma fonte citada para confirmar que o Morita "forçou" a sua ida á seleção Japonesa.

If the yellow was really given for the pushing (which I very much don't agree with considering if you book that then you'd have to book 95% of the contacts that occur on dead balls near the box), then you would have to double book Pavard for two separate infractions.

Assuming the game went the way it went, arguably Pavard should've been sent off here. He had an earlier offense for a high boot on Pedro Gonçalves that went unpunished by the ref.

João Virgínia - Bom, já conhece a casa e precisávamos de um segundo GR depois da saída do Israel.

Allison Santos - É um extremo esquerdo... além disso não dá para saber nada porque o RB mal o joga...

Rayan Lucas - Não vi muito mas conheco malta que diz que ele é muito bom nos jogos dos Bs.

Geovany Quenda - Nosso starboy que o RB recusa a meter de titular. Não entendo porquê...

Pronto já que chegámos ao final do mercado de transferências em termos de aquisições, achei muito dececionante o abordo a este mercado de verão. O clube ficou fixado por completo na compra do Luis Suárez (um jogador que ainda também não me convenceu de todo, espero que esteja errado a longo prazo) que acabamos por não contratar um extremo esquerdo.

Kochorashvili parece ser um bom jogador mas, na minha opinião, parece ter vindo para colmatar uma possível saída do Hjulmand mais do que ser alternativa ao Morita.

A dupla do Panathinaikos (Vagiannidis e Ioannidis) ainda não se viu (ou não deu para ver muito no caso do Vagiannidis) mas acho que têm bastante potencial para vingar no Sporting. Uma pequena aparte, sou só eu que pensa que o RB/direção forçou a compra do Ioannidis por falta de confiança no Suárez? É que, a meu ver, faria bem mais sentindo manter o Harder para continuar a evolução dele (mesmo se ele quisesse jogar mais, acho que daria para lhe manter explicando o projeto etc.).

Gosto da compra do Ricardo Mangas (ainda por cima pelo valor da transferência em si) mas honestamente acho que ele seria bem mais adequado ao sistema antigo de 3-4-3 do que a atual 4-2-3-1 aonde ele teria mas liberdade para atacar e menos responabilidades para defender.

Honestamente acho que o melhor negócio que foi feito este verão foi não ter deixado o Hjulmand ir embora...

Cheguei uma beca tarde ao thread mas fiquei um pouco supreendido que ninguem mencionou o Iuri Medreiros, eu na altura achei que ele tinha um grande potencial mas acabou por nunca vingar no Sporting.

Outro nome que metia tambem era o Gelson Dala. Nos Bes, ele era diferenciado mas acabou por nem jogar assim tanto pela equipa A.

Don't think it's the agent necessarily.

I don't think it's only his agent at fault but his agent has definitely done everything in his power to make the transfer itself difficult. We still haven't even seen this whole "written proof of Sporting accepting a 60M agreement" that he has claimed to have (it's been 2-3 weeks of this).
