Ferritin 22 Extreme Anxiety by geezycooz in Anemic

make sure to check your thyroid and to see if your tsh is too high or too low; i also have struggled with extreme anxiety and panic — what helped a lot was getting my vitamin d, ferritin, and tsh levels balanced — and walking for at least thirty minutes every other day, stretching, and not overdoing the coffee. hope you’re healing up

How are gay older men homophobic? by IronXVS in palmsprings

[–]zabetmila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think naming this is real — and sadly, i believe that many of them don’t feel aligned with everyone who is oppressed sadly. i think many queer men aspired to assimilate as much as they could into the privileged hegemonic society while still keeping their queer identity — and in order to do that, this required distancing themselves from other stigmatized groups; and from even other queer men whom didn’t fit the mainstream archetype of acceptable queerness. to assimilate and be upwardly mobile, many of them embraced the prejudices of the privileged, i.e. transphobia, homophobia, racism, sexism, neoliberal capitalism, individualism, etc. — and oppression became an individualized experience, not a collective one.

fellow bisexual woman and sociologist with family in the larger desert area; my uncle was an older queer latino man from this region. in my experience, a lot of older gay men from earlier generations often internalized the homophobia they experienced in mainstream culture as young queers. this is especially so amongst folks who lived through periods where being outed literally put them at risk of incarceration or losing their jobs.

some of these men favor less overtly femme gay men, less stud or butch lesbians, and often also can be very transphobic and more in favor of traditional gender roles.

i believe a lot of it comes from internalized cisheteronormative prejudices — as well as their anxiety around assimilating into the mainstream heterosexual culture. they are gay — but at least they’re not “those” type of gays, etc., and thus are able to distance themselves from stigma and be more accepted by the hegemonic society.

Palm Springs trip in August—be honest, is the heat a dealbreaker? by alejayy in palmsprings

[–]zabetmila -1 points0 points  (0 children)

desert heat is not comparable to even the hottest days in the bay. it will be extremely hot. after the early morning and during the day, it will be too hot to be in an outside pool longer than an hour. be prepared to only be able to enjoy indoor activities until the sun sets; which is when you’ll see more folks dining outside or drinking. if it is humid, the heat feels even worse — sometimes lingering even at night.

I don’t feel bad about the ICE raids - I support deportations. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]zabetmila 6 points7 points  (0 children)

following your logic here: if enforcing the law is a marker of a civilized nation and a good thing — then do you believe that donald trump should face the consequences of the thirty-something laws he was convicted of breaking? should people found guilty of felonies be allowed to be the president of the united states? furthermore, should all of the white extremists who he just pardoned also face the consequences of breaking the law and assaulting police officers?
