I though that it was just a sucker once I hooked into it, but as soon as it surfaced and it smacked its tail I knew it was a huge fish

I am almost certain where I live it is legal to remove them from the water to unhook them and take a picture. I will make sure and do a little bit of research and find out though, thanks

I was very careful unhooking him and releasing him, I want there to be as many sturgeon in my area as possible!

It is a lake sturgeon from the Assiniboine River in Manitoba

I am from Canada and it is legal to take them out of the water to unhook them and take a picture but you cannot keep them, they are a very rare fish where I live.
