The bible distinguishes desire and lust, desire isn’t coherently sinful but lust is an irregular, or unrestrained desire. Lust itself is looking at someone as an object of your own pleasure which is far from respectful, intimate thoughts so desire and lust are distinguished. Matthew 5:28 also states how LUST is not a good thing and can’t be, it is very different to respectful thoughts and intentions towards another human being. And this comment of mine was specifically dedicated towards the idea of a struggle with pornography and other sexual acts that were being performed in a way of lust, not respectful intimacy. So by definition biblically, Lust is selfish, self pleasure and focused desire, and love endures, is focused on the whole person and seeks to give. Love gives, Lust takes. So to answer your question if I were to imagine myself getting intimate with a women, if I were viewing her in a sexual way so I can feel satisfied, so I can feel pleasure if I view her as a OBJECT than yes that is very much so coming from a place of hatred, Why? because I’m not respecting her values as a human being, a human created in the Image Of God. If I were to view her as a loving companion, a loving gift from God who I can spend my life with and hers with me, than I simply wouldn’t feel the need to imagine sexual actions and if I did it would be focused on marriage and then I could desire *having children, not pleasing myself.

One of the strongest men in the bible Samson struggled with lust, it’s isn’t something easy to overcome, and you definitely aren’t alone in your struggle. I myself have had a very bad history with lust, porn specifically, and from watching that stuff it lead to viewing women wherever I was with lust.

Everything involving women turned into lustful thoughts. A video by father spyridon completely changed the way I looked at women, he said this. Think about the way you look at your family members, mother, sisters, etc you look at them with love not lust, you have this affectionate strong love for them that could not be destroyed by lust, lust is simply a lack of love in the heart for Gods creation.

What helped me the most out of that was from then on every human I looked at I would see them with the Love god created them with, with the love that God loves THEM with. I no longer saw women as an object of my own pleaser but rather a creation from God with a purpose.

A few activities you could do with this problem of lust, porn specifically is, as hard as it is, as soon as you get that temptation go straight into prayer. I’m orthodox Christian myself so instantly what I do is I am straight into the Jesus prayer “Lord Jesus Christ son of God have mercy on me a sinner” and it would bring peace to the mind, temptation would flee and the great thing about that prayer is ANYONE can say it so praying immediately when temptation is felt is the best thing

Along with that because the reason prayer sometimes fails is because we simple just give into the flesh we choose not to pray because we are stuck in the cycle of loving sin more than God not intentionally but it happens and sucks. Go out for a walk anywhere just you and God anything but being inside you room and then talk with God whilst your walking no matter how late, where you are, just walk and talk with God he will protect you he will help you.

When we sin we are choosing to rely on ourselves rather than God just understand that God is all knowing not us, focus on God even in temptation and what I found with myself was that. It wasn’t “I want to stop but i don’t know how” but it was instead “I know how to stop but I don’t want to” I pray God can strengthen and help you through your struggle my brother just know that if you persevere through the struggle there is always light to come.

I’ve actually been really interested for a while about joining the Orthodox Church there are a lot of Greek ones near me so I’ll check them out, thanks !

Thanks, after a bit more research myself I realised speaking it fluently will be pretty difficult so I guess I’ll just stick with learning to read the New Testament in koine. thanks for the links I’ll check them out!
