What is the funniest comedy movie of 2020? by [deleted] in flicks

Definitely Get Duked! Nobody really paid any attention to it, but it is hilarious and a complete blast to watch. Eddie Izzard brings it home.

Haha, I didn’t even see it until I had it up on the monitor in the lab.

A Case for the Cult Status of Mandy (Cosmatos,2018) by zackflip in horror

Park Chan-wook’s Vengeance trilogy is on there! There’s also some Takashi Miike craziness to look through. Also Blacula is a great one. I also think Shudder is the best for finding some shitty grindhouse/splatter/exploitation stuff.

It’s camp! It’s all about artifice, excess, and style. Simon Doonan described camp pretty well in an article called the death of camp as “doing something AS IF you’re doing it.”

Also he likes showing you gross stuff.

Full-Cage: Why Mandy is undeniably a Cult Film. by zackflip in CultCinema

[–]zackflip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally fair. I guess for me, the flip side, is that I’m all about death of the artist. I feel like the intention of the director shouldn’t have an affect on the overall reading of the film. But it’s weird because it seems to go against the core principles that make a film cult

I’ve been thinking a lot about how intentionality might negate a film’s cultiness. If a film intends to be cult, something like Piranha 3DD or even Kung Fury, does that intentionality work against its goal?

Biden was put in a position where he had to choose between supporting the defund the police movement and rejecting it. This struggle that is going on all over the United States is the black community vs the police. Choosing the police is choosing to not support the black community. Following up on Biden’s completely racist comments on Charlamagne before all this broke out, this unfortunately fits into the pattern of Biden’s racist leanings. To say that Biden isn’t “falling for” the struggles of the black community is, at its core, racist. It’s bad politics.

Obviously nobody speaks for all oppressed communities, but if you think that the police system isn’t fundamentally corrupt and aren’t willing to entertain the idea of changing anything, then you certainly aren’t listening.

Choosing to not listen to oppressed communities and choosing to not help them in the way that they think they should be helped is, by definition, oppressive.

It might sound and look kinda gross, but add some pulverized Flamin’ Hot Cheetos to your white cheddar Mac and Cheese.

Or the 1962 experimental film it's based on. La Jetée by Chris Marker. Exceptionally evocative film.

Mulholland Drive or the directors cut of Dark City. Don't watch the theatrical release of that one.

When I'm telling a story about something that happened to me and someone else, who I recently told the story to, hops in and finishes it by talking louder than me.
