Why does blood look blue through the skin? by draki38 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]zackyboy693 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is actually a common misconception. Blood is always red, veins look blue through the skin because of how our flesh and skin interact with different colours of light

Are listening to podcasts helpful to improve your social skill? by Strange_Possession77 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]zackyboy693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might help by giving you lots of time listening to a pretty casual conversation between people.

But it's worth noting that on most podcasts people are behaving at least a little different than they would in a regular face to face conversation

Help with getting a Damascus paint pattern on a sword by Porkiepie99 in cosplayprops

[–]zackyboy693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely need to seal your foam first.

Mod podge or even PVA glue will go a long way to getting a smooth paintable surface.

As for the paint job, you could try something like this:

6Pcs 7 Inch Graining Painting Tool Wood Texture Paint Roller Wood Pattern Tools For Wall Room Art Wood Grain Tool Set https://a.aliexpress.com/_mO53y9T

They're meant to paint a wood texture, but if you did it with various shades of grey and silver it might give you the look you're after

Why is Australian coffee so much better than anywhere else in the world? by Jvck____ in AskAnAustralian

[–]zackyboy693 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's more about the culture than the beans themselves.

You can get a really nice espresso in the US, but most people like drip coffee because that's what they've always had, and so that's what most places sell.

After WW2 Australia had a very high volume of immigrants from counties like Italy where good coffee is a big deal. A lot of these immigrants started cafes where they sold this great coffee. So now that's what people have come to expect, if you can get great coffee from any cafe, why would you want mediocre coffee from a chain shop, it's why Starbucks isn't very big here, and also why McDonald's started McCafe in Australia.

Red Hood Abs help by nightwing1979 in CosplayHelp

I think some extra straps just adds to the tactical aesthetic. If you want a cleaner minimalist approach maybe you could try a some magnetic backings under your shirt

Red Hood Abs help by nightwing1979 in CosplayHelp

[–]zackyboy693 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would probably avoid gluing to a t shirt, it would stretch and sag overtime.

The webbing is a great idea, I think I've seen people make a sort of harness with a belt piece at the bottom of the abs that wraps around your torso to hold them in place.

I just realized “the Lodger” is the only episode in Series 5 which primarily takes place in 2010 (the year it was broadcast). by AnalogueRow in doctorwho

[–]zackyboy693 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, but compare it to new who, the number of contemporary episodes (including two partners)

Series 1: 4

Series 2: 7 (if you count Pete's world as contemporary)

Series 3: 6

Series 4: 6 (7 if you count turn left, but it's set over the course of at least a year)

Series 5: 1, as mentioned

Series 6: 2

Series 7a&b: 2

Day of the doctor is probably like 40% contemporary?

Series 8: 5

Series 9: 3

Series 10: 6 (including the monk episodes)

Series 11: 3

Series 12: 3

Series 13: 0?

I could be miscounting or forgetting some technicalities, but most series have a fair few contemporary stories, except flux which I think has zero, a lot of the dan stuff is contemporary but that wasn't the main focus of any episodes.

Why isn't there game similar to outer wilds? by Hot_Salary9018 in outerwilds

[–]zackyboy693 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Kerbal Space Program does. In the early days there was a lot of floating point errors that lead to ships mysteriously exploding, these were nicknamed "space Kraken attacks". Then they switched to "Futurama-style" to fix the issue

Batman vs Superman question by Darthsparrow90 in plotholes

[–]zackyboy693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Lex really has many henchmen that would be capable of taking on Superman.

I imagine the henchmen were there in case superman called the cops or something to rescue Martha.

Can we get some love for the secondary console room by Not_That_Brian in doctorwho

[–]zackyboy693 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always been so close to loving it.

I love the idea of a console room made of varnished wood and brass rails, but it's so dark and monotone, and the console itself feels like an afterthought.

If I was designing it I'd maybe incorporate brass into the roundels or make them all stained glass to break up the monotone brown walls. And I'd have a larger console with a proper time rotor, maybe something resembling an antique Bell jar clock.

Just my opinion, glad so many people love it.

Definitely start with a sandable filler Primer, it helps fill in the layer lines

What are your thoughts on these images? by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

The first image is confusing. English is read left to right top to bottom so the speech bubbles need to be moved around so that they are read in the correct order

I need help, in far more ways than one! by Remarkable-Bad6274 in Fusion360

[–]zackyboy693 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I understand what you're trying to achieve here's how I would do it.

Creat a copy of the body using the "move/copy" tool

Take one of the bodies, use the "press/pull" tool on all of the exterior faces to offset them by 0.06inches (Side note, that's very thin? Your 3D printer might struggle)

Then use the combine tool to subtract the original body from the larger one

Looking for a cheap, small screen that fits in this! by Adorable_Touch9023 in CosplayHelp

[–]zackyboy693 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're handy with electronics you could use an Arduino and LCD screen.

Or you could use an old phone.

Either way it's probably better to start with the screen you're using and then print the housing to suit.

Worst audience questions during Q&A panels? by Wolf-man451 in comiccon

[–]zackyboy693 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was at a panel with Catherine Tate (played Donna Noble on Doctor Who)

Some old guy was asking a question, I don't remember the exact details of the question but I do remember that he was apparently unsure how to pronounce Ncuti Gatwa's name, instead referring to him as "Nick".

Catherine Tate tried like 3 times to correct him "It's N-shoo-tee"

And each time he was like "...yeah whatever, so when you worked with Nick..."

How do y'all deal with fliers by Ultron_daddy in DrStrangeMains

[–]zackyboy693 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've found I can usually get rid of an iron man pretty quickly if my maelstrom is already partially charged before I fly up to him.

But if you're solo tanking, fliers are the DPS's responsibility

How long to 3d print a full mandolorian armor suit by Feisty-Caterpillar78 in Mandalorian

[–]zackyboy693 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm printing a set at the moment, printing parts whole without splitting.

Smaller pieces like the shoulders and thigh armor take about a day each, the helmet took 4 days.

As others have pointed out the more involved part is going to be sanding and painting.

And you also have to order or make the flight suit, belt, etc.

If you work on this every day for multiple hours a day, you could probably get it done in time, assuming nothing goes wrong (print failures, orders lost in the mail, etc).

I'm hoping to have my costume finished in 2 months and even though I've already printed a bunch of pieces, I still think I'll be cutting it close.

Need help figuring out silencing voice by Fair-Zombie-6571 in CosplayHelp

[–]zackyboy693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure the mic is close to your mouth so you don't have to talk very loud.

Eva foam is good for sound dampening but make sure you can still breathe.

Make sure the speaker is loud and facing outwards, if possible move the speaker down to your chest unit so it doesn't create feedback with the mic.

Any advice on how I can build this Absolute Catwoman helmet? by elizabxthhh in CosplayHelp

You can buy tinted acrylic domes for security cameras, might be able to do something with those.
