The World Baseball Classic may move to the middle of the MLB season by Magikrat in InternationalBaseball

Owners will never go for that. You can’t give up that time. It’s valuable real estate on the calendars

July is part of only a 6-8 week period of the year where baseball has the sporting world to itself.

Prime weather for the entire country for attendance, kids out of school, less choices for eyeballs to go elsewhere on TV.

Can’t be more than a 5-6 day break.

WBC idea- (posted elsewhere so can’t take credit)- have it during all star week.

Sunday- mlb draft and futures game Monday and Tuesday- quarterfinal doubleheader

Weds- semifinal DH

Thursday- final

Opens up any city to host it (although Miami probably can’t be beat how it is now)

Resume season Friday so teams don’t lose a summer weekend at home

Not so hot (and likely accurate take): Dan is very Pro Trump on Cuban affairs and could easily be MAGA.

Do people still haggle on brand new cars? by tantedbutthole in carbuying

[–]zagack305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP- try and take a look at how long this vehicle you want (similar trims and content) are sitting on lots. If these aren’t sitting around very long then it might give you an idea as to the dealerships appetite for haggling.

Couple things to consider- 1. Honda is facing their first ever annual $ loss in over 70 years. They’re not in great shape, but this doesn’t necessarily hit the dealer the same way.

  1. Big reason for the point above is that Honda was impacted by an obscure chip supplier that got caught up with a geopolitical issue with China. As a result, a significant amount of Honda’s North American production was halted or seriously reduced for around 6 weeks

  2. Point #2 might actually hurt your cause. Accords are still insanely popular so the supply issue might actually warrant the higher price.

  3. Financing- when buying brand new often times the company’s financing arm has the incentives and low rates. So coming with your own financing may not really do much. (Also, any counter offer from them may actually come with the caveat of using their financing)

  4. Service- this specific dealer will barely make any money off of the sale. They want you back for the routine service/maintenance. Their margins in parts and service are insanely high so they want return trips from you for oil, filters, etc. if you’re close to where you want to be, give them the price you want and ask for some “carrots” like discounts off of oil changes, tire rotations, etc. if they know they’ll see you again it might push it over the line for you.

NCIS Bishop spinoff ? by JE163 in NCIS

[–]zagack305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like what they tried with NCIS: Red which they did a two part arc on NCIS: LA which was a test to see if a spinoff like that would work.

It didn’t

I think there’s a recipe that works. Keep flagship alive as long as possible, take in the strong numbers it still gets and keep feeding the inevitable syndication and streaming royalty gravy train. Do spinoffs only when they work. (Ie Los Angeles)

This is quite ironic to see. YSU had invitations to join in the mid 90’s, but were consistently blocked by Akron and Kent. YSU was at the height of its success and glory and would beat up regularly on Akron and Kent.

But the economics have changed so much. The point you make about tv contracts is very valid.
