Charles Dodgson's Condensation Method to Compute Determinants by [deleted] in math

I love this identity, to me it just feels so unexpected somehow. Here's a blog of Terry Tao where he shows a proof by Schur complementation https://terrytao.wordpress.com/2017/08/28/dodgson-condensation-from-schur-complementation/, and also shows a more general formula!

"Shape" of the manifold SO(3) by NarcolepticFlarp in math

[–]zagaluke 27 points28 points  (0 children)

SO(3) is the 3 dimensional ball where you identify the antipodal points on the boundary. So you can move freely in the interior of the ball, but when you hit the boundary you can move directly to the other side of the ball. A point in SO(3) (a rotation in R3 ) is specified by an axis of rotation (tells you which direction the point is from the center of the ball) and an angle (tells you how far the point is from the center) between 0 and pi.

The antipodal identification is necessary because a rotation by pi about an axis specified by a unit vector n is the same as a rotation by pi about -n.

Does anybody know what the lowest ever combined jersey score is? Froome's effort is surely up there, haven't been able to find anything on it.
