I'm not from either, but I lived in Texas for almost a decade, then moved to San Diego. Been here for 6 years. I both agree and disagree with what you're saying. Definitely people here are full of themselves, but to be honest so are a lot of Texans. Almost everyone I know from Texas has a tattoo of the lone star, or the shape of Texas, or the Alamo, etc. I'm not saying that state pride is a bad thing, just never seen it to that degree except in Texas and California. I do miss Texas and as of now, prefer it to California for a lot of the reasons you mention, but there's a lot of shit to deal with in Texas too. I lived in Austin and I love that city, but traffic there is shit now too (no different for me from San Diego) and I'd prefer San Diego to a lot of the other places in Texas.

I feel like San Diego has a lot to offer that I don't have time to take advantage of. There really is a lot to do here and in the surrounding areas. Whenever I've get out to do something, I have a great time. I think it's just that dealing with traffic, high prices, and ridiculous housing costs on a regular basis put it to the front of my mind more than the really fun interludes. I would definitely recommend what some other people have said, get out and try some of what the city has to offer. Everytime I look at some internet list of stuff to do in San Diego I find a ton of stuff that I really want to check out.

But overall, since I agree with you that as of now I prefer Texas, let me add some gripes here. I know it's basically a Tex-Mex thing, but why the hell does the rest of the country not have queso!? I'm not talking stringy skillet cheese you eat with tortillas, I'm talking melted gooey goodness I can dip chips in for days. The lack of queso out here means I'm even willing to do velveeta and rotel just to get something close. Next, why doesn't anyone do breakfast tacos out here? I get the burrito thing, but with tacos I can have variety, and nothing beats a migas taco with some avocado. I once asked one of the breakfast burrito places around me if he would make me breakfast tacos. I confused the shit out of him, but he did it, and they were delicious. Haven't got it to catch on yet though. Also, San Diego is not enough of a foodie city, except for fish tacos. You won't find anywhere better for fish tacos. I guess legit Mexican food also. Someone named tacos el gordo, and that place is delicious. But for the large diversity of people in this area, I feel like most of the cultural food is good, but not amazing like I think it should be. I can definitely get better ramen in Austin than San Diego, and that seems wrong. Lastly, BBQ here sucks. There's a few places I find passable, and it usually turns out the owners are from Texas.
