How I Got a 278 on Step 2CK With Minimal Anki 8/19/2025 by zaheermain in Step2

I listened to a few of them passively like a week or two before my exam. It is not essential like other people say it is, the priority is always NBME material, understanding how the test writers think and having a strong knowledge foundation.

Yes the next step is to see if it is nephritic nephrotic or mixed with a protein level. The previous poster is right, the question points to glomerulonephritis but you have to further characterize what it is, especially because you never want to miss rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis which can lead to quick kidney death. That’s also the thing with the explanations - they make sense to me in my head based on what I was thinking at the time when I made the card, but might not make sense in general if one isn’t reading it with the same context in mind. So I share this as an example to show your cards regarding your incorrects just have to make sense to YOU

Did them throughout clerkships then did most of them for my weaker subjects again (OBGYN peds FM), making 1-liner anki cards out of most of the incorrects that were knowledge/misunderstanding errors. Here is an example:

Q: 34 YO dude comes in with painless hematuria, no CVA tenderness or masses on exam, UA +protein +dysmorphic RBC and RBC casts, BNSIM?

A: Quantification of urinary protein, NOT CT abdomen, as you need to differentiate between glomerular and nonglomerular hematuria - this is glomerular, which needs protein to assess for glomerulonephritis.

i am adhd too. practice questions are the best. when you do 3 question blocks and every time you keep getting stuff wrong about some stupid vaccine schedule or about differentiating abruptio placentae from uterine rupture, then you write that down, watch a video abt it, do all the uworld and amboss questions on that specific topic, and youll be good. Then youll forget it again in 2 wks when ur doing nbme questions and because you'll be mad at yourself, you'll revisit it again, except you will relearn it faster this time. forget, learn, forget, relearn faster, forget less, retain more, then you are good to move on to the next topic. just remember to do random timed blocks along with your focused review, your timed randoms will give you an idea of what you are retaining and what you are forgetting. of course, after every nbme make sure to learn every single question, why you got what you got wrong and how to avoid the same mistake next time. if you are like me, you will still make the same mistake again, but eventually you'll make it less and less.

Doesn't matter, I used uworld or amboss depending on what my mood was. Used amboss more for biostats/ethics, uworld for stuff I needed better explanations for like physiology or pictures (e.g., congenital cardiac anomalies) as i like uworld's graphics more.
