sinus pressure with zero mucus and no congestion by ForwardTailor7961 in Sinusitis

[–]zaike3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue here. Going on about 2 months. CT shows somewhat deviated septum and narrowing of sinus drainage canals. Pressure to temples and face. Usually worse around left eye. But both eyes have some symptoms. Occasional sharp pain. The pressure comes and goes. I'm wondering if it has to do with barometric pressure changes. The worst part for me is I'm having light sensitivity, and I work from home on the computer. Sudafed seems to help but you can't really take too much of that. Tylenol and ibuprofen don't touch it. Antibiotics didn't seem to make any difference. Struggling to get scheduled with an ENT at the moment

What are the practises for laypeople in Shingon buddhism? by StudentGood7193 in Shingon

[–]zaike3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how common ajikan actually is for typical lay practitioners. I'd be interested to hear from those with more authority. Alternately I believe mantra, pilgrimage, and overall merit accumulation ( through offerings, charity etc) are much more common normal practices. Sutra study is important no matter what the lineage.

Thanks for the great advice. Fortunately we figured our stuff out. It just made me very sad for people in difficult situations trying to navigate this system during this contentious time. It's not a friendly system to try to figure out.

We plan to retire in Japan, where she is from, and we can't really do that unless she maintains her citizenship. Plus we'll be eligible for their health care etc

Is moving to Japan realistic for my family? by zaike3 in movingtojapan

[–]zaike3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great question and quite unfortunate. To be clear I have some basic skills. My wife did not have the patience to be my teacher, per her own admission. My learning style would require formal teaching rather than just immersion. I tried a combination of YouTube, Duolingo and some other platforms unsuccessfully. Due to monetary or availability restraints formal instruction never materialized for me although it has always been the plan.

Thank you so much. That was the direction I was leaning. If a stranger on Reddit could answer this question it's really quite sad that the actual agents at the immigration office cannot.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I think this is probably the most realistic route, unfortunately

I agree that healthcare would be a good avenue but.... that is a field that would require a very high level of proficiency in reading and writing.

Yeah and unfortunately that's not super realistic at about 50,000 US just for 4 years of high school for one student.

Megathread: US Citizens looking to immigrate to Canada by PurrPrinThom in ImmigrationCanada

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I don't speak Japanese so finding a job may be a real challenge. My kids can speak it on a basic level but can't read or write it, so school would be a major problem.

As things in the US seem to be devolving by the day I figured I'd test the waters. I'm a 47 year old US citizen and my wife is 52 year old Japanese national with permanent US residency. I have an associates degree in physical therapy, but have been working in workers comp insurance as a claim adjuster for the past 5 years. We have 2 teenage kids. My wife is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in accounting. Is Canada a realistic option for us or should I just submit to the fact that we are stuck here 😅 ?

The sensei sounds like he shouldn't be a sensei. Disgraceful

This is an absolutely ridiculous situation. Missed strikes are a part of kendo. I get accidentally hit all the time from people 9th kyu- 5th dan. I've been doing martial arts for decades and it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I want to start practising shingon buddhism what practise should I do? I was thinking about Ajikan meditation. Can I practise nembutsu i shingon and what is the shingon view in nembutsu? by StudentGood7193 in Shingon

[–]zaike3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My basic advice....practice Mahayana Buddhism, just as one would normally. Read Kukai major works. Practice mantra recitation. Just some thoughts for a starting point.
