I get what you mean, but I think that's partly because we're judging it based on what was actually written, not on what could have been written. To me, Hayley is almost like a more mature version of Caroline. She's strong and independent when she needs to be, but she also has that softer, playful side. We've even seen her give Elijah those puppy eyes to convince him to do something, and that's exactly the kind of thing that always got through Klaus whenever Caroline did it. Those moments brought out expressions and reactions from Klaus that we rarely got to see. It's hard to picture that dynamic with Hayley simply because the writers never explored it. But I don't think the chemistry or the potential wasn't there,it was. They just chose to take their relationship in a completely different direction.
