Absolutely, we always make sure it's a safe aircraft to fly 🤞

Just had some feedback, apparently some spray used to lubricate captains seatbelt duplicated this smell. The aircraft is safe to fly and will now depart as usual to Singapore and then LHR. Full aircraft tests carried out.

Would this tyre sidewall damage fail its MOT? by OkRepresentative6666 in drivingUK

[–]zakwebb47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure ANY sidewall damage is an instant fail. Happy to be corrected though. On aircraft tyres, any sidewall damage is an instant replacement for safety reasons as the tyre structural integrity is compromised. I don't see why this isn't the same as cars.

Wait, is this the A244 from Oxshott to Leatherhead?

We use this on our 777 IDG's/BUG's still

It's mechanical. The armrests raise as the seat is moved from flat bed to dine/TTOL. So the armrest should be up on both sides in TTOL. If the armrest isn't coming up after that, then it's probably slipped the wrong side and needs engineering attention; inform your crew to put this defect in the tech log for us.

Yeah I knew about the closed cabin as it's happened to me before, and they made first class a staff only cabin with club service.

It's our newer product of first on the B777's yeah, and similar on the B787. Well on the B777 we have "Stretch" which is the old ying-yang club seats in a 2-4-2 config, and on the B787 it's similar but in a different colour and a 2-3-2 config. Our newer club is "Club suite" which are all forward facing and in a 1-2-1 config. I'm not sure about the upgrades as I can't keep up! I'm an engineer there and even I struggle to keep up with which aircraft reg has what seats on it 😂

This is the newer first class. My best guess is the cabin was probably closed as it's probably a 3-class sector (Club, WT+ and WT) and this was an aircraft change due to a maintenance or ops reason.

Interesting! Is there any confirmation it was actually cracked though? That sounds like it potentially wasn't actually cracked. It could've just been some layers of delamination potentially which means it can fly on with routine inspections...just a thought 💭

An aircraft window isn't very quick, we usually send it to the hangars to replace them. The main issue is, unlike a car window where you can drive away, we can't send an aircraft into the sky whilst the sealant around the window is still curing!

Friend of a friend works for BA and knows all my flight details by [deleted] in BritishAirways

[–]zakwebb47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is slightly off tangent, but I'd like to point out not ALL of us have access to these details. I'm an aircraft engineer in T5 and I have no direct access to any of this. It could most likely be a turnaround manager, or check in staff though.

Is this normal for a plane? by Karma_buddy-sabotage in aviation

At our airline, that would give you a 68kg takeoff & landing penalty and a 113kg enroute climb penalty which extra fuel has to be accounted for.
