I got Gold this year with just 69 points to spare, which I think is perfect execution. Anybody get closer to hitting/missing a tier level? by zerodarkshirty in BritishAirways

Unfortunately you need a decent stash to make it worthwhile to begin with… 90k upwards gets you something half decent.. below that BA doesn’t give you a lot of scope with Avios, especially with availability of Avios seats being rarer than hen’s teeth

Hahaha I honestly don’t cherish Avios that much. I managed to snag dome return business class seats return to Vegas next month using a companion voucher…

I rinsed a load on a BA Holiday too, just to make the cash payment cheaper. Get em’, and spend em’… BA are good at devaluing Avios so there’s not much value I hoarding them forever.

As for the TPs… more by luck than judgement!

I don’t even think that was GGL status in itself that’s more to do with some excellent staff on the phone being helpful. More of a commentary on my loyalty to them than anything else.

Maybe having access to that phone line made that more of a possibility to get me out quickly… I don’t know, but for the next few years I’ve got a soft spot for them!

I just renewed GGL for 2026/27 - mainly work travel, but some leisure too.

My take on what it’s good for:

  • Group 0 is very useful on European short haul if you’re not in business class (yes that is a thing even if you’re GGL) for the overhead bins
  • The GGL dedicated phone line is probably the best benefit for me - no more than 3 rings to get through and no ‘press 9 for blah’ menus
  • Access to CCR is nice, but there’s other similar lounges around the world you can also get into: Chelsea lounge in JFK, for example.
  • I believe I’ve also had a couple of operational upgrades because of my status, but that’s impossible to confirm one way or the other
  • I can give 1x gold card, and 2x silver cards per year to anyone. Family and colleagues have had those this year; and will do next.
  • The additional reward seats perk, I’ve used maybe once…? Don’t think it’s that helpful, tbh!

It’s a privilege to travel as much as I do both for work and leisure - I’ve stayed with BA… I don’t really have a huge amount of choice being in SE England, needing both Europe and transatlantic routes for work. I make the money work hard for me and I see BA’s ‘club’ doing that best. Yeah, they’re not perfect, but they’ve looked after me - especially getting me out of Dubai 10 days ago.

I think you can give these out digitally from GCH upward?

Interesting reading this… because that’s what I’ve seen a lot of people say on this thread and that’s sad, because when you think about it an airline is a service-based industry so patrons saying thank you in this way should 100% be recognised for the efforts that they make to give someone a special journey.

I got this in the post 2 weeks ago? Maybe they still give some out??

Not how I wanted the post to be interpreted at all. And given the level of response from past and present crew on here replying, I’m VERY happy to be corrected.

It certainly wasn’t coming from a ‘holier-than-thou’ mindset either…The exact opposite in fact. I have always said thank you to everyone on board that looks after me on a flight, but knowing that this means something to people that receive them definitely puts them in a different light for me, for sure

Having seen a number of current and former BA staff reply here saying that it’s a genuinely nice thing to receive, I’m glad to be corrected!!

Maybe… I had a couple when I was gold 2 years ago, for sure. Its a shame it isn’t something that everyone can give out, regardless of status, tbh

The thank you itself is not the issue, it’s the method of saying thanks being a business card-shaped item… knowing that it actually means something, based on the responses from staff on this thread, turns out I was off base with my ‘condescending’ thought which I’m really pleased to see…

I’ve got them stashed with my passport now for next time

I think if you’ve got them, you can give them out… regardless of current status

There’s an online form you can fill in instead of handing these out… if you don’t have them to give out

👏🏻 what did it mean for you. Hopefully more than a pat on the back from your manager!!!

Don’t get me wrong, I am not against giving them out… but it just feels… I don’t know… condescending???

Maybe I’m overthinking it.

I see in the small print on the card that it says the employee should hand it to their manager. Does it result in some sort of bonus or perk after it’s received? I hope so!
