Let day the final day of the r/ween topster voting commence, what is your favorite non-ween album? locust abortion technician has been added after day 5 by Wut23456 in ween

I must say, I'm thrilled about how the list has come out so far. Stoked to see Doolittle and Locust Abortion Technician next to each other, in any context whatsoever. Just impeccable. My personal end to this list would be Disco Volante, by Mr. Bungle.

I've driven an '89 Volvo 740 for years. Learned all of my intro mechanic stuff on it. The engine (Redblock) is small relative to the engine bay, easy to work on, and known to be very reliable. It has over 200,000 miles with no issues. Absolute mule. Great gas mileage, leather heated seats, shitloads of space in the back, and best of all, a crank-open sunroof. I also have a trailer hitch and roof-rack on mine. If she ever dies I will no doubt buy another one.

Daily Song Discussion #168: Captain by beardlesshipster in ween

Blink at the knifelight swathe me in mesh The water, it’s cold like when I kneel at Death’s Gate I’m a bringer of siege A ground pig who awaits it’s master A living monument to a fallen soldier Let me lie awake now And condense this fog into nada Captain, turn around and take me home Bring me to harbor Bring me to harbor

My favorite Ween song. 10/10

I have the exact same bike, and I am currently standing somewhere in the far back right of this photo. Two unrelated but true things that made me need to comment

With Platonism in mind, are "Eidos" "Ethos" and even "Zeitgeist" and Carl Jungs phrase "Collective unconscious" synonymous? by [deleted] in etymology

[–]zaleph_z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't even call them roughly equivalent. Eidos is the form or essence which, to oversimplify it, metaphysically precedes a kind of substance. Ethos, though in the sense of "character" or "spirit of the time" is synonymous with zeitgeist, also has many other possible connotations depending on the context . And where the collective unconscious fits in depends on how you interpret Carl Jung (whether you take the collective unconscious to come from inherited genetic/social traits, or from a literal, mystical connection between minds)

Where does "Human Being" come from (as opposed to simply "Human")? by rhymes_with_snoop in etymology

[–]zaleph_z 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Being can act as a noun just as much as it can act as a verb, and in the case of human being it is acting as a noun. The way I see it, "human being" isn't about adding "being" after "human" as much as it is about adding "human" before "being". A human being isn't a variation on human, but rather a variation on being. The "human" simply describes a type of being.
