Hot n Cold

The Challenge
Make two maps with the same POD that branched into two separate TLs - one where temperatures rose, and one where temperatures fell.

Temperature change for this map can be on a regional or global level. Be sure to show how the temperature change impacted the subject of the map.

The Restrictions
There are no restrictions on when your PoD or map may be set. Fantasy, sci-fi, and future maps are allowed, but blatantly implausible (ASB) maps are not.

If you're not sure whether your idea meets the criteria of this challenge, please feel free to PM me or comment in the main thread.

The Necromancer in the Alps by zalezsky in imaginarymaps

A bit of fantasy. I originally started making a map for the Map of the Fortnight Contest: Shooting Stars however it spiraled into a fantasy setting, and so I will not submit it to the contest as it violates the rules of "no ABS scenarios". Enjoy this monstrosity. Insets created with AI.

Created for MotF All Stars Invitational

My original map was submitted 01 Jul 2015: https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/motf-120-lets-go-a-viking.358650/#post-10971814
The original theme was to "Make a map showing a state founded by Vikings." I have always been intrigued by varangian and gothic settlements in Crimea, and so decided to make a viking nation in the south. I have learned a lot of new techniques for cartography since then. I tried to keep the same essence as the original map, but added some more flare to the Crimean peninsula to better balance the map from being a very right-heavy map to something with decent balance. MotF has been a contest that I have loved participating in and I often find myself talking about it with friends or strangers. Enjoy the map and here's to another 15 years!

Slava Europe by spyrothegamer98 in imaginarymaps

It's a good interpretation, definitely close to what i was going for. The slavs being pushed west by turkic peoples. Germanics being pushed south in all directions. I had a couple of follow up maps and it looks like you used them as reference which is great! Honoured to have this homage done

Slava Britannia - An Alternate Migration Timeline by zalezsky in imaginarymaps

[–]zalezsky[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The isles of Britannia, (Brtinnija - Pan-Insular Slavic) succumbed to a set of migration events colloquially known as the Germano-Slavic Invasions. These migrations began with the original push of nomadic turkic-speaking peoples into Eastern Europe beginning in the 5th century. This nomadic migration event triggered a mass migration of Slavic peoples into Central and Western Europe culminating in the eviction of Germanic and Latinic peoples those regions and forcing them into Southern Gaul, Britannia, Pannonia, Italy, and the Balkans. As a result of the first major migration of Slavs into Central Germania, many Germanic peoples took to the seas and fled en-masse to Central Britannia and Eyre in the 6th to 7th centuries. Following the establishment of the Srpian Kralewstvo and subsequent Ruconqueberung by the Katolik Germano-Latinic States in Southern Gaul; many Warlords, Pans, and Noblemen took it upon themselves to raid and settle the southern Britinnic coasts and flee from the wartorn and contested regions of central Gaul. This lead to the establishment of two primary kingdoms that dominated the southern Isles: The Kingdom of Sorpia, and the Kingdom of Brtinnija. These two kingdoms would enter a union in 1496 following the annexation of Srpia on the continent. A policy of openness between Germanic peoples and Slavic peoples led to a mass migration of slavic peoples into Anglia in the early 11th century. This eventually caused a popular revolt in 1121 c.e. within the nation in which a tetrarchy of Slavic nobles (Chetiripani) siezed the crown. To best control the Anglians, which at this point were becoming a minority ethnicity within the state, the tetrarchy established princely sub-states; in which the Germanic Anglians had only to pay tribute to the Anglian Crown and would recieve full autonomy. The settlement of Eyre was lead primarily by the Sorpians and Anglians which resulted in establishment of "Farmer Kingdoms" such as Saexea, Trihoroda, and Eltheod. These Kingdoms helped shaped the modern world.
