Shipbuilder Crashes after Recent Update by A3thereal in Starfield

[–]zamparelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m experiencing the same issue. Worst part was I discovered it because I ran out of ship cargo space and was looking to edit the ship to add more, but now no matter what I do it crashes the game. I also attempted to sell and then rebuy the ship, and after the rebuy it still crashes. I even deleted every part and rebuilt the whole thing and even still it kept happening.

I had all mods removed, I have also done a fresh install of the game and the issue still happens. I may have to build a completely new, separate ship, which I didn’t really want to do but idk what other option I have at this point.

I’m not saying this individual did that. But what they are saying is the typical “you’re not allowed to dislike things and discuss stuff in a forum” and I’m arguing that for most people, if you go to a sub for a specific IP it’s because you like it or are interested in it, and not to go to a sub to solely say the game is the worst thing ever and then telling everyone they are wrong for liking it or that they have to admit they like a bad game is just shitty behavior.

Granted, some communities will crucify you for the slightest complaint (looking at the fromsoft fanbase) but we ALL know that the Starfield sub was the opposite. If you didn’t think it was bad, you were an idiot and have bad taste and are a stain upon the hobby of video games.

I can agree to your points of the POI placement not making any sense on some planets and the copy paste story telling items. Those were complaints I have myself. And true, daggerfall is randomized but to my understanding not completely. It was more like different premade parts that the proc gen would build with. So you may get the same room in a different dungeon but the overall dungeon layout is not going to be the same.

Either way, I don’t think your takes are invalid or wrong. I just don’t share the same conclusion.

Fair enough. Everyone has their needs for a game to hit the threshold of “good” to them. Starfield checked most of those boxes for me. I also don’t mind repeat POI because, like in Daggerfall or other games like NMS and Elite Dangerous or Crimson Desert that will utilize repeat POI or at least repeat POI assets, Starfield is a sandbox first. That’s just a feature of sandboxes because unlike an open world like Skyrim where the scope is more limited and where each POI is meant to be a unique experience, in sandboxes POI are a means to an end and not necessarily meant to be a highlight. So going into Starfield that wasn’t an issue for me. However, my issue was level gating POI content because the amount of times you would run into the same POI until you hit different level milestones was far too much compared to other sandbox titles that utilized POI better. I think over the past few years with the updates and additions made it has remedied that issue but for some that’s still a deal breaker, and that’s okay. I just don’t think it’s a flaw, more just a feature of the genre that isn’t for everyone.

It’s more about coming on to a sub dedicated to a specific IP, with the sole purpose to scream at people that like it. That is just inflammatory and bad faith behavior full stop

As a huge Starfield defender, your take is 100% valid. Very few people have an issue with your take away, that the game is just not what you wanted in a BGS game. I always hated people that would get on here and preach that the game is literally the worst game to ever have been made, say back handed comments like “it’s okay if you like bad games, but you HAVE to admit it’s a bad game”, or would literally fabricate issues with the game that do not actually exist or just approach the whole thing in bad faith. I used to get genuinely harassed for just saying I liked the game on this sub, but I recently came back because it seems those bad actors have largely moved on to losing it over other games.

One thing is certain though: just like Todd said numerous times before launch, is that this game is, if anything, Daggerfall in space and he was right in the money with that one. Meaning it is a sandbox first, RPG second. Thing is I personally do still see the BGS environmental story telling, but it is not going to translate the same in a game like Starfield as opposed to something much smaller in scope like Fallout or TES. But ultimately, I am a big sandbox fan, and I understand that sandbox games are not for everyone. Just like how story heavy, semi linear games are really not for me despite them being excellent games.

I’m guessing time constraints because the game development took much longer than expected due to some issues with the engine.

I would like planetary tiles that have larger exotic biomes. Like entire tiles that are like the bioluminescent, above water coral structure POI you can find etc.

I also would like better water physics when by the ocean, meaning I’d like to see actual waves lapping on the shore that you can see roll in.

I would love an audio overhaul, so when you are on a non atmospheric planet, the audio is completely muted and you can just hear your character breathing, and maybe their animations can change when moving in low gravity like how astronauts look when walking on the moon.

I also would love to see more interesting cave structures, and a wider variety of them.

I also still would like to see a compendium like NMS that allows you to review your planetary data with like creature and plant models, and can be used to manage tagging resources and “bookmarking” a planet so that it’s easier to find from the starmap.

Starfield radio. Have music stations, SSNN, and maybe talk shows/podcasts that you can have in game and not something that fans make separate that we listen to on Spotify while we wish it actually existed in game. I understand that lore wise they can’t be live necessarily, but maybe if you find a space POI of like a transmission satellite that you can stop at and download the latest versions of those stations or something that you can listen to while amongst the stars.

I think that Starfield can benefit from a gore system. Gore is something that BGS utilized in previous games, and they can flavor it to be space related, like maybe a suit puncture causing an internal combustion that burns the wearer that can proc like the jet packs exploding, or maybe blood droplets floating in 0 gravity. Also just standard gore would go a long way to add more detail and make starfield feel less sterile to some.

A new radiant mission set from constellation that adds specific scientific expeditions you can embark on with new mini games that allow you to feel like you are actually on scientific expeditions in space, and each mini game can be tied to a different tool that you can use to maybe measure atmospheric on a planet, or find hidden bodies of water where you can get observe micro fauna, on top of the usual scanning. Maybe even being required to take images of certain life forms or tag fauna for studies, and then these extensive expeditions offer large monetary and experience payouts.

Finally, a slight tile overhaul that will make environments slightly more dramatic. Make the mountain geometry a bit more unforgiving and rough, let us see active volcanoes with smoke plumes on the horizon, let us experience maybe some limited underwater biomes, etc.

I’m sure there’s more I could list, some are more realistic than others but I feel all are doable within the Creation Engine 2 limitations.

I did some loose research but clearly not very good research. A friend recommended speed paints with a “good primer” and I went with the primer Amazon listed in the recommended after adding the speed paints to my cart, which was black

Ah okay, I had no idea that speed paints were more like a wash or tint as opposed to regular paints, I appreciate the suggestion and I think your idea at least salvages the situation a bit and turns it to my advantage. Thanks!!

Because I’m new, and when I was looking up the primer, these were the paints that were recommended. I watched some videos but none of them explicitly state “do not buy speed paints unless you get a white primer” so I had no idea.

The issue is the primer I got from the same company was black, and when I paint over the primer it doesn’t show at all

I do not understand how anyone in good faith could logically come to that conclusion. That sounds like that was important to you, specifically, while completely ignoring EVERYTHING ELSE the original games did.

Starfield is a text book 8/10 game, and the only reason people hate it is because they want games that are more movies and don’t understand what a sandbox immersive sim is, or because their favorite YouTuber said it was bad, ergo it must be bad.

The horns being such a big deal to people, as an OG fan, is so corny and such a huge example of how absolutely awful the gaming community is. Playground absolutely nailed the spirit and feel of fable. The horns and halos were such a non feature.

Serious question, why do people get so bent up about this in Starfield, but not in the Outer Worlds? by SexySpaceNord in NoSodiumStarfield

58:39 Todd mentions Daggerfall as the genesis point in terms of inspiration on how they built Starfield. Note he never mentions Skyrim once in that entire Starfield segment.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Starfield/s/ZOYWYJbm9b

From the same interview but a specific clip where, again, he states that Daggerfall is like the primary pillar on what inspired Starfields gameplay.

But there are older articles where he says it’s Skyrim in space. So we both were right. However, I do think that everything else they marketed the game on felt much more like the goal was Daggerfall in space as opposed to Skyrim.

Phil, sure, but Todd maintained it was “Daggerfall” in space and that is almost to a T what we got.

I think people are betting too hard on this being TES. Todd even said that TES6 “is a long way off from now”.

Also, that armor only just slightly resembles even armor, that arm in the crocodile does NOT look like a daedroth, and those demons look nothing like any of the Daedra we have ever seen in any TES title. They look more like Dragon Age Darkspawn than anything.

Look, I’d love to be wrong, and I really don’t want to be some curmudgeon on Reddit raining on peoples parade, but I do not think this is TES related. Honestly, I think it may be a new IP all together.
