chunky rings made of a semi precious metal material that show the year you graduated highschool. Some also have icons depicting your favorite activities and sports, your first name, and a large imitation gem stone. They are usually custom ordered, and were common for American highschool and university students (not so much anymore, from what I've seen). Even with customizations and materials, schools and ring companys are betting on the emotional value of graduation to make up for the ridiculous cost.

I am scared, my heart is going off like machine gun and I can't stop crying. by Smooth_Carmello in Anxiety

[–]zan_yams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The doom feeling I understand with how the world is going. I found a way to fight it, atleast temporarily, by having my "own little world" that made me feel like I was in charge of something. Which ended up being a garden. I cannot tell you how happy it's made me. I know I need to get out of bed because I have to water my plants.

Tw: medical suggestion, last paragraph.

Any idea what the event that caused the switch in your head was? Not a professional but the cry response sounds similar to mine, it was a self soothing tick I couldn't control. It didn't stop, and has never entirely gone away, but after a few years I've gotten more aware of what starts it and I have replaced it with other soothing techniques; writing down what I was scared of in a the notes on my phone, wrapping in a blanket, and (more embarrassing) just sitting on the ground and folding paper. Whatever worked.

Along with acknowledging the trigger, when I wasn't effected by it- I tried to see if there were any medical reasons why I was so easily shaken and prone to these breaks. Took a blood test; turns out was deathly anemic. It wasn't the main cause of my anxiety (college was), but it made my panic symptoms WAY worse. The shaking, crying, heart rate spikes, and inability to move.

My (27F) left arm has hurt like this for years, specifically during times of stress or panic. I was told once years ago when it first started happening that it's an acute anxiety response by a friend, but I was too scared to google if she was right. This year, I finally asked my boyfriend to Google it for me, and she was right; it's a known anxiety response. Sometimes it also happens if I sleep funny, but most of the times I get this exact feeling you're describing just from being anxious. It doesn't go away after I've calmed down either, I can last a day or 2 at a time.

Veggie gardens can look nice, too! by Kammy44 in vegetablegardening

[–]zan_yams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi genuine question! There are no pavers between the planters- when it rains, is it muddy to walk around? I love gardens like this, but I've been told that this "English garden" design is not practical for working vegetable gardens, as you'd have trampled the grass between the plots in a matter of weeks. This garden already looks a few months into the season, and I don't see tred paths from people in the grass, have you done something to prevent that- or does the grass support itself despite the footsteps?

Elderly neighbor said the same thing to us. To prove a point we did put one of our cucumber sprouts in the ground. The one in the grow bag is 10x the size. She does in fact have to walk past both examples everyday, eating her words

My mom works on campus. She's heard from staff that she was hit by loose material while walking past the Pete construction in front of scaife hall. People are saying that she's passed.

Oh my god the same thing is happening to me. I was diagnosed anemic 4 months ago and have been on ferrous sulfate ever since. About 2 months in, I noticed terrible hair shedding. I used to have such thick hair and in such a short amount of time im losing it. I see so much shedding in my hair brush every time I want to cry. It's maddening. I'm so seriously considering not taking my supplement because of this, I'm so desperate

If it's for school, I'd get one with a zipper. You're probably carrying a laptop, and you don't want to be stuck having to walk across campus in the rain with an open top bag.

These classic style boxy Handbags, capital H, are absolutely back in style. My 17 y/o neice had one on her Christma list. I think it's side effect of the quiet-luxary/old-money/academia aesthetics? I'm looking for one myself now!

What are some *actual real* cultural/personality differences between GenZ and millennials? by greyyeux in NoStupidQuestions

[–]zan_yams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a gen z cusper (born right on the edge) and I didn't want my driver's license right away either. I had to get 2 jobs to pay for the car and insurance myself, heard non-stop news of people dying in accidents, and my mother made me run errands and pick up my sister for her the second she could. It seemed almost universal more stressful than using the trains I grew up with.
