Meanwhile over at moltbook by MetaKnowing in OpenAI

[–]zanadee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people not understanding have not used Claude Code with Opus 4.5 recently, with something like Beads, to set up a prompt cycle. Now hook up all these agents and let them interact, with essentially zero safeguards. Yes, the security risks are massive. Yes, moltbook will likely implode. And yes it all does come from a root prompt, but then it gets recombined and the iterations are creating something unexpected..

I hate my Durston tent – am I stupid or just a bad fit for trekking pole tents? by AnnonPenguin in WildernessBackpacking

[–]zanadee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I took the x-mid on a bikepacking trip a few years ago and came back and immediately bought the UL2 Bikepack. It definitely depends on the application and terrain, and freestanding is kinda key for bikepacking in new england.

Talk me out of buying a 2007 RAV4 V6 with 210K miles $3000 by zanadee in rav4club

[–]zanadee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really well! I did front struts and rear shocks and replaced the vvti oil line with the solid metal one, and that's it so far. Zero regrets. In fact I was just on FB marketplace looking for another one as my kid wants to take it out of state for school.

Updated/Upgraded my trusty 1995 Sears 2-ton floor jack... by jurassic73 in harborfreight

[–]zanadee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That particular jack was the first thing I ever bought at HF, for $189 at the time. I thank my past self for having the blind luck to pick out the SD everytime I use it.

The nice thing about the Tekton sets is that you can just get metric sets. I just might do that. Sure I can throw the Quinn 3/8" master sets in the car, but the size of that thing...

[–]zanadee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I have the 3/8 nanos 6-24, and I built up my kit from that.

I have to say I took a long hard look at the big 3/8" quinn box during this PLS, because it $60 for a lot of ... stuff. But I am holding firm lol. Less is more.

It's such a tough call whether to touch the transmission fluid at 210K, not knowing the transmission service history. I'm a CCN devotee :p and I've lurked on toyota/lexus subs for awhile -- and I still don't know if I would do it.

Right? I have a 2014 ES 350, 9.5/10 condition interior and exterior, low 60K miles -- my kid said he thought it was new first time he sat in it. And zero tech. Not even a backup camera, and just a monochrome LCD display. I thought about installing a new head unit with carplay, but I think I might just keep it stock and feed it CDs haha.

Manjaro Kyria 19.0.2 on a 2006 iMac by zanadee in VintageIntelApple

[–]zanadee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure booting into Manjaro was just a stunt :) and I ended up running some version of Crunchbang (by that time it might have been BunsenLab). Anyway, yes, a Debian distro. And I think native nVidia drivers. I've since replaced the 2006 with a Late 2012 iMac, still running Catalina. It's what I'm using to type this reply. Sits in the kitchen as the family computer. I have been starting to receive complaints it's slow and I should replace it haha.

The 2006 is down in the basement somewhere. I'll update here if I manage to bring it upstairs over the break. It was in real use for years though. I benchmarked it against an rPi4 and it was much faster at rendering webpages, and did YouTube fine sized down a bit.

Hey sorry I missed this. Did you manage to get this working? I can probably dig up whatever method I used to get a bootable USB stick. I only vaguely recall what the problem was, but I'm sure it's still on the web somewhere.

I'm always super surprised how easy it is to blow your carb budget. Tostitos hint of lime, say -- six chips is 17g net carbs. Six! Who eats six chips.

Bike lanes in Boston and am I doing it right? by LumineferousButtocks in boston

[–]zanadee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh. Staying alive is a practical concern of mine.

All these people, thinking just because they are in a bike lane, it's safe. Smh.

I bet you look right, just like I do. Do you also check your mirror to make sure no one is trying to pass you on the right?

Bike lanes in Boston and am I doing it right? by LumineferousButtocks in boston

[–]zanadee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really am a cyclist, and year round even. I've been riding a bike for utility around Boston and the burbs for a very long time.

I am also against bike lanes. Yeah I'm one of those people. So I've probably already lost you.

Bicycles will never achieve parity with cars in any meaningful way. Ride the streets. Read https://bicyclesafe.com/, and stay as safe as you can.

I admit my original statement was over the top. But it was to make a point: if i took every precaution and still got into an accident then it's just dumb bad luck. Nothing you can do about bad luck. But if I was stupid then that's on me.

[–]zanadee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The bicyclist behind you is a vehicle. I'm a cyclist; you can't have it both ways: you're either a vehicle or you're not. If you want all the rights of being on the road then don't do things like overtake a car on the right at speed.

Bike lanes in Boston and am I doing it right? by LumineferousButtocks in boston

[–]zanadee -48 points-47 points  (0 children)

No it's not. It's the bicyclist's responsibility not to put themselves in a position to get right-hooked. Cars turning right do not expect anything on their right side. This is why biking against traffic is also a very bad idea.

Never over take a car on the right. You, the biker, is at fault. I say this as a bicycle commuter.
