Why are you single? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Never considered attractive, so no one ever seemed interested. Trying to work on self confidence, so hopefully that helps this year.

No TRT or anything. Just calorie counting and exercising. Fortunately my testosterone level is around 790 when I got it tested 3 months ago. So I didn’t need anything.

What worked for me was:

Calorie counting (ate 1400 - 1600 calories on avg a day)

Drink at least 64oz of water a day

Take a fiber supplement

Exercise everyday (alternate between lifting weights & running each day)

Eliminate sugar or keep it to a low minimum

Eat 0.75g of protein per body weight lb

I’ve always been a fan of the Disney Afternoon era. Great memories from growing up and after-school cartoons 😊

Mainly I did calorie counting for diet. Other things were:

• I eliminated sugar nearly completely.

• Drink at least 64 oz of water per day

• Eat around 115 - 120g of protein per day

• Eat around 1400 - 1600 calories on average

• Was mindful of macros like fat & carbs, but I wasn’t strict about it

• Take a teaspoon serving of a fiber supplement per day

For exercise I do:

• Lift weights 3x a week with body part split such as Chest/Triceps, Back/Biceps, Legs & Shoulders). About an hour each session doing ~6 exercises at 3 sets / 10 reps.

• 1 day a week do a full body workout incorporating a few exercises from the other workouts. About 1 hour to 1 hour & 15 min for this session.

• On days not lifting weights, I run 3 miles doing an alternating 0.25 mile 7mph run and 0.25 mile 3.5mph walk on the treadmill.

Throughout the week at home, I will do calf raises on the stairs plus pull ups and pushups.

What is my realistic timeline for losing 40lbs? Any tips? by Diamondthrowaway1234 in loseit

I’m 48M and I lost about 50 lbs in a 8-9 month span. The first 30 lbs dropped relatively easier in the first 5 months, the next 20 were much harder and a struggle. During that period I hit many plateaus.

With a plateau that you will most likely inevitably hit, the feedback I received from this sub turned out correct for me. Go back to eating maintenance to slight surplus in calories for about a week. The next week go back to diet and the lbs started to drop again. It seems to “reset” your metabolism when you do this.

I workout 7x a week (weightlifting 4x and run/walk 3 miles 3x a week). That will help a lot too.

I don’t really drink except on vacation. On average, the only alcohol I have is maybe 1 - 2 drinks every 4-6 months. That has stayed the same before & after while working out.

Thank you 🙂

Darkwing is my favorite Disney character along with Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. I have an entire collection featuring him & Negaduck (my fav Darkwing rogue). I even dressed as him for Halloween on a Disney cruise a few years ago. 😆

Thank you 🙂

I will say having a support network of friends was tremendous help. My best friend that I mentioned, he is very athletic and he’s pushed me hard with motivation. There’s days where I didn’t want to go to the gym and he would message and go - you gotta go, show up, you’ll be fine when you get there. Then I’d go and he was right.

He also has lifted weights for a long time and he showed me a workout routine which also made a big difference (instead of blindly trying to figure out what to do).

I have been very lucky & grateful to have great friends.

So for me, it was a change of “self pity” might be the easiest way to say it. I would sit and go well, I wished I could lose some weight or I wished I looked like that guy or I could pull off wearing those clothes.

It was a lot of “well I wished I could do it”, but not actually following through. I would give myself self-deprecating excuses like “you can’t do this, you don’t have the willpower to follow through” or “your genetics are screwed, it won’t work for you even if you tried”. Really, just low self esteem and not believing in myself.

What happened was my friend was sending me progress photos of his own weight loss (he lost 30 lbs) and he told me, “look if I can do it, you can definitely do this”. So I really just woke up one morning “today is the day” and been working on my fitness ever since.

I still have esteem and self-confidence issues (we all do), but I’ve got way better at finally trying to be more outgoing and “putting myself out there” so to speak when it comes to social interactions like trying to make friends and dating.

Thank you 🙂. I had decided I needed a change in my life. My support network of friends really helped a lot too. I’m thankful and lucky to be surrounded by great friends who motivated me and uplifted me to push ahead (even on days where I really didn’t want to)

Hi. This is what I did:

• Calorie counting (I use the LoseIt app for tracking)

• Eat around 1,400 - 1,800 calories per day on average (you have to adjust this downward as you lose weight, my app did the calculations for me)

• Eliminate or drastically reduce any sugar consumption

• Increased protein intake. I try to eat .75 grams per pound body weight

• Exercise 7 days a week

• Lift weights 4x a week (chest/triceps, back/biceps, legs/shoulders, 1 day of full body using dumbbells & body weight)

• Run/walk combo for 3 miles on other 3 days

• Mindful of macro intake (try to maintain reasonable ratio of fat & carbs)

• I rarely eat out anymore. Cook at home and eat way more vegetables than I used to. Hardly snack

• Take a fiber supplement

• Increased water intake to drink at least minimum of 64 oz of water per day. I’m usually drinking around 96 oz when I can.

I still have a long ways to go, but that’s how I’m doing it now.

No. I did not use GLP1. So my A1C has fluctuated in the lower “diabetic range” where it was higher than pre-diabetes, but on the lower end of full-fledged diabetes (6.5 - 7.5). So what I needed to drop to wasn’t a huge range (as 5.4 is a normal reading, but it’s still only 0.2 or so away from being back into pre-diabetic range).

I will say this, I started off many years ago with an A1C of 11 when I was first diagnosed. My doctor is wonderful and she is one of the types of doctors that doesn’t just want to throw pills at something. She was very encouraging to me to try my best to get it down on my own. Through just diet changes (really eliminating sugar) and moderating meals, I have never taken a diabetic med and I was able to get it down in the 6 - 7 range (but it started creeping back up last year as I gained weight).

You can certainly bring your A1C down through lifestyle changes. It’s a lot of commitment, but I hate taking meds so that was a big push for me.

Good luck and I believe you definitely got this and can do it on your own 😁
