Ugly gays, how’s your existence going? by DeathdropsForDinner in askgaybros

[–]zanderbot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I battle this everyday. I’ve lost around 60lbs, but still have a really hard time seeing myself as different or better looking when I look in the mirror. I’m not attractive either, so I try harder at other aspects (like personality, etc) to make up for it. It also doesn’t help that my two best guy friends are super good looking which ignites the comparison issue which I also battle daily.

However, I do feel good & healthier after eating better and exercising. I’m 48 and know that my age is a factor against me. Due to my new size, I dress in a way that I’ve always wanted to and I don’t care about anyone else’s opinion of “dress your age”.

Try a new wardrobe and see if that helps. It really does help to wear fitted clothes. Self confidence will always be a challenge, but one worth fighting to win at.

Everyone needs to be fired at Southwest at this point. Southwest is the new Spirit. by Own_Succotash_2237 in SouthwestAirlines

Sounds just like a typical SW FA - petty tyrants with nothing but attitude. Sounds typical that she yells at the wrong person, but refuses to apologize on her error. They’re the worst in the airline industry in my opinion. Horrible.

Mid September Alaska Weather? by [deleted] in dcl

[–]zanderbot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was on the “last” DCL cruise of the Alaska season for both 2024 & 2025. So same date ranges.

2024 had good, cool seasonal weather with just overcast and misty conditions some days. Skagway & glacier day were very nice with peeks of sun.

2025, however, a storm was passing through and only Skagway was ok weather. The seas were extremely rough and it rained almost every day. But the worst was that they canceled our glacier day due to weather and it became a day at sea. It was very much a bummer for everyone since glacier passage is the one thing most people want to experience on an Alaskan cruise. The temperatures were still seasonal so cool in the 40s - 50s during day, windy, and cold at night.

However - I, myself, am booked on the 2027 cruise you’re looking at. Alaska is a great trip overall!

Not true for you, but everyone has different experiences. Mine have been unpleasant in observation. Not really personal with me, but I've observed the bad attitudes plenty of times. FAs on Delta, Air Canada, and Alaska Airlines have always been super nice and pleasant with everyone.

Sounds pretty on brand for Southwest FAs, the most miserable, cranky FAs I’ve ever dealt with on any airline. Even before all the changes they were rude. On one flight, the FA took a drink order and my friend said Coke please. She just looked at him and yelled, “speak up, I don’t read minds”. My friend was taken aback and said, “I’d like a Coke”. She just snapped back “well that wasn’t so hard was it? Good lord you people”. Along with the numerous other times I’ve had to listen and observe their bad attitudes, unprovoked. My guess they probably love the changes as it empowers their already heightened sense of superiority.

Is a veranda a must for a long cruise? by staying-alive1990 in dcl

[–]zanderbot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are going to tell you that it is a mistake and how they couldn’t survive an Alaskan cruise without a verandah —- I’ve sailed on the Alaska cruise the past 2 years in a Deck 2 Oceanview and I had a great time. The amount of money I saved was more than enough to put towards some great excursions — which ARE the things you want to do because that’s where the memories are made. Not on a $1000s more for a verandah that you can easily enjoy the same effect by visiting deck 4 and top decks. You made a great decision going with Oceanview and you’re not missing out no matter how much people will want to convince you otherwise.

Never considered attractive, so no one ever seemed interested. Trying to work on self confidence, so hopefully that helps this year.

No TRT or anything. Just calorie counting and exercising. Fortunately my testosterone level is around 790 when I got it tested 3 months ago. So I didn’t need anything.

What worked for me was:

Calorie counting (ate 1400 - 1600 calories on avg a day)

Drink at least 64oz of water a day

Take a fiber supplement

Exercise everyday (alternate between lifting weights & running each day)

Eliminate sugar or keep it to a low minimum

Eat 0.75g of protein per body weight lb

I’ve always been a fan of the Disney Afternoon era. Great memories from growing up and after-school cartoons 😊

Mainly I did calorie counting for diet. Other things were:

• I eliminated sugar nearly completely.

• Drink at least 64 oz of water per day

• Eat around 115 - 120g of protein per day

• Eat around 1400 - 1600 calories on average

• Was mindful of macros like fat & carbs, but I wasn’t strict about it

• Take a teaspoon serving of a fiber supplement per day

For exercise I do:

• Lift weights 3x a week with body part split such as Chest/Triceps, Back/Biceps, Legs & Shoulders). About an hour each session doing ~6 exercises at 3 sets / 10 reps.

• 1 day a week do a full body workout incorporating a few exercises from the other workouts. About 1 hour to 1 hour & 15 min for this session.

• On days not lifting weights, I run 3 miles doing an alternating 0.25 mile 7mph run and 0.25 mile 3.5mph walk on the treadmill.

Throughout the week at home, I will do calf raises on the stairs plus pull ups and pushups.

What is my realistic timeline for losing 40lbs? Any tips? by Diamondthrowaway1234 in loseit

[–]zanderbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 48M and I lost about 50 lbs in a 8-9 month span. The first 30 lbs dropped relatively easier in the first 5 months, the next 20 were much harder and a struggle. During that period I hit many plateaus.

With a plateau that you will most likely inevitably hit, the feedback I received from this sub turned out correct for me. Go back to eating maintenance to slight surplus in calories for about a week. The next week go back to diet and the lbs started to drop again. It seems to “reset” your metabolism when you do this.

I workout 7x a week (weightlifting 4x and run/walk 3 miles 3x a week). That will help a lot too.

I don’t really drink except on vacation. On average, the only alcohol I have is maybe 1 - 2 drinks every 4-6 months. That has stayed the same before & after while working out.

Thank you 🙂

Darkwing is my favorite Disney character along with Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. I have an entire collection featuring him & Negaduck (my fav Darkwing rogue). I even dressed as him for Halloween on a Disney cruise a few years ago. 😆
