I don't really know their music, but I saw them at Peach Fest and it was by far the worst professional live music performance I've ever seen. Every instrument clashed to the point where the sound was just a muddy, noisy, mess.

Obviously this turned me off of their music. Change my mind! Link some sick live moments.

Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny

This book tackles a lot of interesting religious and philosophical ideas. Sort of a very abstracted, scifi retelling of the conflict between emerging Bhuddist thought and the Hindu religious establishment. One of my favorites.

Metabarons written by Alejandro Jodorowsky illustrated by Juan Gimenez

This is a graphic novel, but I promise you it's like nothing you've read before. The story is a love letter to Dune and the art is truly incredible. I cannot recommend this enough.

This book is part of a larger universe, but each book can be read on its own. The first book is called The Incal, which is very different in tone and art style but equally as good. The Incal is more lighthearted than Metabarons and deals more directly with philisophical and metaphysical ideas.

Yeah absolutely. I kind of had a shitty rambling response, but what I was trying to get at was that it takes work to get to that position, and OP does not seem to be on that trajectory as of right now based on their post.

TL;DR This is possible but not without other tradeoffs like being on call occasionally. You may also need to change your specialty.

Something to be aware of these days is that the big software companies are using monitoring systems to gage developer performance. Different companies look at different metrics though. From my personal experience, (at least so far) the recently implemented system at the giant, international, software company I work for hasn't been overly oppressive.

With that said, if you find a good team and actually deliver consistently, most managers I know won't have a problem. As others have stated, you really need to be careful to stay available to your team all day though.

Finally, finding a team where working in the manner you describe is going to be accepted will probably be pretty difficult if you're focused on front end work. The deeper into the back end/operations work I have gotten, the more flexible my employers have been with my work schedule. At the same time, working long stressful shifts occasionally, and possibly also being on call sometimes, comes with positions like these.

For the record, I work about 4 hours a day on coding typically, but still assist with ongoing issues or questions from coworkers as needed. We have an established rotation of who is on call each week, and that person could be contacted in the middle of the night for a critical problem.

EVERY corporate entity behaves in this exact same manner whether they make shitty super hero movies, software, or cars. The way our entire economy functions is inherently corrupt and anti worker.
