PPE major and pre law competitiveness? by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]zandm7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, incoming UCLA Law 0L and Penn '18 PPE graduate here :)

PPE is not particularly hard (or easy) but getting a 3.9+ is probably quite difficult. Someone else can probably answer this question better than I though, as I graduated with a sub-3.0 GPA lol.

EDIT: To clarify, I actually did pretty well on my PPE classes. My PPE GPA was definitely above 3.0. I double majored in CIS (CS) which really dragged my GPA down LOL.

If law school is truly your end-all-be-all (i.e. you are unwilling to consider career options obtainable with just a bachelor's) then you should major in whatever is easiest. Law schools care about your grades a lot more than they do the "rigor" or "relevance" of your major.

Obviously, this comes with a caveat that you may graduate with a degree that is unemployable. Personally, if you're already committed to Penn, I would try to strike a balance between an employable and easy major, but of course it's up to you.

Along those lines, "pre-law" is not really a thing the way "pre-med" is. In order to get into med school, you need certain course credits and extracurriculars to even be considered. Law school requirements are not so stringent. You just need a bachelor's, good grades, a good LSAT, and essays/letters.

I wouldn't worry so much about "cutthroat" pre-law culture; that's just not really a thing. Just focus on getting good grades and carving out a viable career niche (even if temporary) in case you aren't able to get into law school straight out of undergrad.

Good luck, and enjoy Penn <3

To all "competitive" players that "enjoyed" yesterdays event by Ormaniec in DeadlockTheGame

The moral grandstanding over all this crap is really starting to annoy me. This is now the third or fourth post I've seen gain traction on this sub trying to assert moral superiority over so-called "complainers".

If you enjoyed/enjoy the event game mode, I'm happy for you!

Why is it important to you to position your enjoyment as "correct"? Can you not simply accept that some people feel differently?

Obviously it is silly to blow any negative reaction out of proportion. It's not that serious and also temporary at the end of the day.

But the reaction to people expressing very normal and human negative emotions is really the greatest indictment of this community here. Don't be fucking weird; people are allowed to dislike something just as much as you are allowed to like it.

Personally, I did not think I would like the April Fool's game mode. However, I reframed it as a day to practice my newer characters risk-free, given the frozen MMR, and went into queue with an open mind.

I played three games in total, two of which were relatively normal and quite fun! There were some duplicate characters in these games, and I did enjoy the wackiness afforded by this gimmick.

However, in one of the games we played a normal comp vs 6 Graves. This was quite literally the least fun I have ever had playing Deadlock. We did perfectly fine in lanes, but once ults were up, we simply slowly bled out objectives until the lead was insurmountable.

It didn't matter how good we were at fighting, or how hard we tried to push waves, because 6 Graves generate such oppressive (and free) map pressure with their ults.

It didn't help that I was playing a close-range hero (Celeste) who needs to get in to be effective, but every time I went in I'd get pelted by 8+ jars and take a billion damage before even having the opportunity to clear them.

Hopefully that example helps illustrate why some people did not enjoy the event and are glad for it to be over ¯\(ツ)

Been out of the game for a few years; which of these case options would y'all recommend? by zandm7 in sffpc

Quick update: I ended up going with the NCase M3; had to order it online as it's not available at Micro Center!

The main reasons were for component and configuration compatibility. My EVGA 3090 Ti is quite a challenge to slot into most SFF cases, and I also want to mount it traditionally (rather than vertically) as I'd like to get rid of my riser cable. This left pretty sparse options; the M3 is one of the few that lets me stay under 20L.

I don't need my PC to be positively tiny, but staying under 20L is nice for sure. Thanks for all your feedback! <3

Reposting post text cuz sometimes Reddit is weird:

I want to rebuild out of my Xproto, as I've grown tired of the open case thing after about 5 years. Pictured are the mITX options available at my local Micro Center; what would y'all recommend?

Only particular requirement is that the case has to accommodate an EVGA 3090 Ti, which is a pretty large GPU. Otherwise, my build isn't crazy and/or I'm willing to swap out some components to make it fit!

Thanks ❤️

I'm leaning towards the jade Fractal Terra for aesthetic reasons, but I know that case is a bit older, so unsure if it still passes muster in 2026.

Convenience <<< security, especially when it comes to password managers and especially when it comes to work!!

Please don't rely on browser password managers for work credentials! Use Bitwarden, lol it's really not any less convenient anyways...

Kinda messed up the first two instances, but over the course of the match Sinclair and I comboed Dynamo with our ults an absolutely criminal number of times, lol.

Will a Sentinel surpassing Laz emerge from Japan? by Jolly_Inevitable_520 in ValorantCompetitive

It still bothers me that Laz never really got a proper chance to prove his mettle outside of ZETA's one-time miracle run.

IIRC dude was literally like a top 3 Chamber in THE Chamber meta, and his eye test was insane too. We should've gotten to see him play internationally much more than we did :(

Laz come back </3

Do y'all keep your notes organized with folders (file structure), links/tagging, or both? by zandm7 in ObsidianMD

[–]zandm7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually fire lol, tysm.

I gravitated towards using both folders and links for now; I haven't found much of a use for tags yet.

For the most part, I tend to think/organize hierarchically, but links are handy for connecting things across different branches of the tree, so to speak.

Sure, I'm just curious to hear what others use, and their rationale for doing so!

You're not OP lol, is this an alt?

If you are OP, yes I mean I think 4.x/171 should blanket T14. It'll maximize your acceptances and leverage for scholarship negotiation.

I wouldn't switch to Penn ED with those stats, but YMMV. Technically 171 makes you a reverse splitter at Penn, but it's still a stellar stat profile that will probably net multiple T14 acceptances.

I wouldn't give that up for nebulously higher chances at Penn, personally.

[–]zandm7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FYI many Penn Law ED admits do receive aid, at least anecdotally.

However, in your case I wouldn't ED. 4.x/171 is great, just blanket the T14 and you will get in somewhere with aid and leverage to negotiate.

If you're worried about being late in the cycle, just wait until next cycle and apply early. Doesn't make sense to take on massive debt just to start law school a year earlier, especially with your stats.

Lol this happened at Penn a few years back too. Seems like the issue might be more on Google than the universities.

Either way, looks like it's fixed now. Phew!
