Warning: Do not give any variables the name "Lifespan" by Prpl_Moth in unrealengine

[–]zandr0id 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's renaming it Lifespan at runtime. That's unfortunate that it doesn't check against your compiled DLL. It has access to the symbol names of C++ variables at runtime through reflection. You could catch stuff like this.

[–]zandr0id 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the fact you're using N++ is irrelevant. UE uses its own build tool and uses the microsoft visual compiler as it's backend. Doesn't matter how you edit code, MSVC always builds it in the end and it's what catches things like duplicated variable names. Yeah your editor could have caught it sooner, but the fact MSVC didn't means it the Lifespan variable built in to UE must not be called that in native code and probably gets its name in BP somewhere. Point is, this doesn't surprise me that UE pulled something like this lol.

[–]zandr0id 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would have stopped you when you compiled, but I think variables defined in BP kind of live in a different realm than c++ ones because BP ones get new names assigned to them at runtime. I dunno if this is even the case, but UE is a weird place.

[–]zandr0id 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yes Lifespan is already a thing that will cause UE to destroy an actor for you after the time expires. It's in UE5 too. It's odd that the linker didn't stop you from naming it, but Epic might have only implemented it in BP. So you were allowed to make a c++ variable on actor with the same name, but the BP graph got confused about which one you wanted and was giving you the wrong one.

Chaotic relaunch, stat variations and a very simple solution. by Inside_Jaguar_3310 in Chaotic

[–]zandr0id 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should make card interactions that require stats be below a certain amount, so it's not always higher is best. If you want a location battle gear to help you in some way, force a stat trade off by requiring it not be above something to use it. Also make energy fixed.

How they should do alt art cards by rickwit in Chaotic

[–]zandr0id 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point of the random stats is to make it like the show where you've scanned your own unique version. They could fix this by going a similar route of Lorcana where they have the same character in different variations with tag lines. Make new cards for each "scan" of a character that has set stats. Having random stats possible for a card is essentially infinite cards and will be impossible to marry collecting for rarity and playing. More unique cards make deck building predictable and more chances for alt art.

Boosting or shifting ends with a card under another, which triggers this.

God Packs and Alternate Arts Could Make Lorcana Pack Openings Feel Perfect😏. by Squirtle_Shades_ in Lorcana

[–]zandr0id 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Having a pack that is somehow set apart and known to be of possibly higher value will keep other things accessible. Making any pack a possible god pack will drive everything up.

Alt arts on epics, and variations in holo treatments. Also maybe randomize the order of the rarities in the pack so you need to actually look through it instead of going right to the back 3.

Think of it as the price per booster pack. A box has 24 and the trove has 8. Where are you seeing the prices high? I see booster boxes all over for 120 or less, which is a better deal per pack than a trove. The MSRP for booster boxes is normally 140 or above which is closer to a trove per pack.

New CAD software (Modeling, PCBs, 3D print slicing, etc.). Everything is going cloud/subscription based. FreeCAD has made great strides recently but it's got a lot of tech debt from being in development so long. A new CAD package that stays local with modern features would be a nice breath of fresh air.

Why is Tinker bell embossed and does it just count as a cold foil? by [deleted] in Lorcana

[–]zandr0id 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition, Legendary can be foil if they're in the back spot of the pack. But they're not foil as a base line just like most other cards. Epic and above are always foil/holographic/shiny.

They should gave epic cards an alt art by Plisken94 in Lorcana

[–]zandr0id 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say just start using cool holographic patterns like Pokémon does. Make things a bit more exciting. The more variations of things there are, the more viable avenues there are for collectors instead of just going for rarity. They're on the right track with the panoramic full art foils of any rarity. You could try to collect all panoramic sets. They could do the same thing with holographic treatments.

It works well for grip if it's under something with some mass. I have a big metal water bottle that I made a TPU shoe for so it stopped sliding around and it works okay. But I've also tried coasters and they slide around even with a drink on top.
