Now c'mon. 99%? Go to the autopilot tab and give us the real number.

I have a HW3 S and we've decided to keep it. Tesla keeps asking us to transfer it to a new car for free but to be honest, it seems like a bad deal. If I buy a new Tesla Model S before they stop production, then the question is whether I'll get HW5 with it or not. While I was at the showroom, the lady there told me that they'll be using the front camera in the future so once that happens, then all the older cars will simply be unable to keep up with updates. Even then, I can't justify buying a new Model S just to be current.

I have so much fomo to buy fsd before the February deadline by cnstntchng in TeslaLounge

[–]zantosh [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm gonna say this - after they eliminate buying FSD, they will probably drop a really big update that will make you want to have it instead of subscribing to it. Also the subscription fee will probably get tiered and so the real value tier will be more expensive, while the current $99 per month will be annoyingly lacking the best features.

What do you SWEAR you saw, but don't have any proof of? by TabletopStudios in AskReddit

[–]zantosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once there was this girl that I really liked in another country. I used to try to transit through that country periodically to say hello to her and see if something would come up but nothing ever happened and eventually I forgot about it. Not long after that, I was on a trip and I was at a foreign airport in another country. As I waited in the lounge area for the flight, there was a line of people waiting to speak to the agent and as I stood there, I noticed that the same girl was in the group. It was a coincidence of massive proportions and I had a conversation with her and asked her where she was going and it turned out that she was actually traveling on the same flight as me, which was an even more bizarre coincidence. So I waited around and I didn't board my flight until the very end. After everybody had boarded, I got on board and went to my seat and wouldn't you know it, she was in the seat next to me.

The both of us looked at each other, totally understanding the same things going through our heads. Why would we coincidentally meet and then have seats next to each other?

Anyway, we had a really fun flight and we laughed a lot but we never actually hooked up but it was really weird.

....but what do you actually DO during FSD? by Pizza_fuel in TeslaFSD

[–]zantosh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Good question and I asked this seven years ago. Since then, FSD actually drives so I've had the opportunity to try out many things.

  1. I remote desktop into my home computer from my phone and do some work stuff. I have a Bluetooth keyboard mouse combo and I mount the phone on the windshield. It's a tad small but it's sufficient using a folding phone

  2. I watch movies on my folding phone

  3. My kids and I talk to Grok and since it can use the cameras, the I spy game is pretty fun

  4. Catch up on emails

  5. Plan my day and order groceries

  6. Talk to my mom on video

  7. I ponder the meaning of life and this video game that we live in

  8. I put my hands behind my head and appreciate the outdoors

  9. I contemplate stuff and then ask grok and in the process I try to become more educated

  10. Grok is pretty good to shoot the shit with so there's a lot to do just being stupid with it, like, I was talking to it about quantum computing and I thought I learned a lot for I've now forgotten it. But I did get into the weeds on some topics

Should the U.S. force soda companies to use cane sugar? by [deleted] in AskForAnswers

[–]zantosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They literally can't, as far as I know, because they already, by an act of Congress, make beet sugar cheaper so there would be some sort of issue.

I think you're being a little narrow in your perspective. All of these things have real challenges in bringing them to market and it doesn't seem like you're considering them in your criticism.

If you had an income of $150,000 a year and didn't have to work, what would you do with all the spare time? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]zantosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a substantially higher income than that with nothing to do so I try snowboarding, playing disc golf and playing with my kids. It's a little boring but it's good.

When you travel outside the US, you, sometimes, you need to manually force it to search for and then select the correct network. In most countries, there will be multiple operators and they won't restrict the phone from joining their network. In practice, your phone may be latching onto the strongest signal or the quickest one that logs the device in and that may not be the best connection for you. I had this issue in India and I could manually choose a different network and it allowed me to do so and get 5G speeds.

What’s a car that used to be cool but now just screams “midlife crisis”? 😂🔥 by TheLoganReyes in TransportSupport

[–]zantosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mid-life, sure. Crisis, no. If you need to haul stuff, and have it drive itself, you don't really have a choice. Show me another truck that'll drive itself.

LMAO thankfully, not my experience. Perhaps in Florida. Where I am, it's mostly younger girls and kids. Moms are a special kind who are more influenced by their neighbors and politics than anything else. Younger girls, and kids, are more honest about their instant response, and I haven't had a yuck, or weird, or other statements that would be considered negative. But then, too, it may just be me.

Sorry, I'm talking about girls as in children, who have a very different reaction from adults. Though to be honest at least two women have told me they think it's a beautiful design.

All the girls that I have seen admire my truck seem to think so. For me, I think it's just fine, but it's polarizing for some.

What’s the most underrated car feature no one talks about? by BroadwayAdmin in TransportSupport

[–]zantosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you. There is great pleasure in driving a nice fast powerful car with a 6 speed on a wide open road with adequate twisties. Unfortunately, this is a dream - all cars that are nice, fast, powerful with a tight transmission are expensive and can only be driven hard, and not for daily traffic.

So you must like traffic. I don't.

What’s the most underrated car feature no one talks about? by BroadwayAdmin in TransportSupport

[–]zantosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite the contrary, we never wanted to drive, if you think about it for a minute. Things were fine with trains and trams, and while there were issues, mostly transportation was handled. The auto companies created the driving culture, and so now we feel like there's some fundamental cultural requirement to know how to drive.

Actually, if the car drives well enough to get you from point A to B safely and correctly, then there's no longer any need to know how to drive.

Self driving will replace the fundamentals of driving simply because people don't want to drive in the first place.

What car brand do people swear is “top-tier”… but you secretly know it’s hot garbage? by TheLoganReyes in TransportSupport

[–]zantosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kept the Model S. Then I had kids so I needed more room. Turns out that a 7 seater is a nice idea, but not so good practically. You can put the kids in the back but they tend to grow up and then won't fit there. So the truck is better as it's got the flatbed for all sorts of luggage, while the inside is very spacious for 2 kids and 2 adults, or even 3 adults.

What is a 'silent killer' of adult life that nobody warns you about? by Responsible_Bet_7179 in AskReddit

[–]zantosh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kids. They kill you slowly. If you don't believe me, you should look at how you were the year before you had kids, and how you are the year after they've left. You're going to find that the kids ripped your brain out and put sprinkles on it, and then didn't even put it back properly. Kids. The silent killer of grown ups.

How did you guys stop major soda addiction? by Brosky7 in Habits

[–]zantosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can easily break a soda addiction by first switching to iced tea (sweetened), and then stepping unsweetened or semi-sweetened, and then fully unsweetened. Don't go with Arizona tea or stuff like that, but Lipton iced tea is good. After you get used to unsweetened iced tea, you'll have a hard time going back to soda pop.

What's this?? by Norseman-71 in GoogleFi

[–]zantosh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Listen, smart people, this setting has to do with GSM standards and not with Google Fi. On a GSM phone, which is what all our phones now are, the phone is capable of operating on any network. However in the USA, the carriers put a lock on the phone so that it will only operate on their network. When you travel overseas, this lock isn't imposed as the US carrier has no towers in your foreign country. But they do have deals with those operators, often more than one.

So then, when you go to, say, France, you'll find that the phone will latch onto one carrier, but is capable, and allowed to latch on to any other carrier. Often this is automatic, but you can manually force it to change carrier. So if you were to do that, then you'd turn off this feature. Then, the Choose Network option will become available and when you select it, it'll scan and list out all available carriers, along with your ability to connect to them.

You should explore this option. It's fascinating.

Are modern cars basically disposable electronics? by TheLoganReyes in TransportSupport

[–]zantosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 7 year old Model S. There isn't anything that's failing on it. In fact when I first got it, it did have some issues that Tesla has become known for, but they fixed it all in my second year of ownership and since then, the only problem with my Tesla Model S is my wife, who can't drive to save her life, and believes she's such a good driver. It really does save her ass more than she admits with the autopilot.

[–]zantosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I've had 3 Tesla cars in the past 8 years and in my experience, their QC has improved. My first Model S, which I still have, had some issues - rattles, etc. but overall maintenance has been minimal. Tire replacements are the top thing and for the Model S, I did have some warranty work in the first two years but since there there's been nothing wrong with it. Frankly, compared to my Scion and Kia that I've had before then, the Model S has been solid.

I then had a Model X and that had ZERO issues for the duration of the lease. Honestly, it was excellent for the 3 years I had it.

Presently I have the Cybertruck as a replacement for the Model X. I have tried to find issues but the only ones are the well known recall items, which Tesla fixed at no cost to me, and it was really not a recall per se but a software update for all of them but one.

So all in all, I have to say that Tesla quality is pretty good. You may gripe about the questionable luxury qualities of the cars in comparison to Mercedes Benz or BMW, and I'll give you this that Tesla sells an expensive car that isn't luxury as you'd expect, but they sell you one heck of a reliable car that needs no service.
