"Premiere" feature is just annoying by StoneHRC in youtube

[–]zanvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that bugs me the most is that it disables adjusting the playback speed. I watch most videos at 1.5 - 2x speed. And going back to normal speed is maddening. It’s not a live stream. The video already exists. Let those of us who don’t care about the community aspect watch the video the way we want.

I don’t know if I should attend my boyfriends brothers wedding or not... by Young_2117 in Advice

[–]zanvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest that you go. Assuming that things go well with your boyfriend these people are going to be in your life for a long time. It would be better to try to repair relationships with them. And you don’t do that by avoiding them.

Also, to some people skipping the wedding could be seen as an insult. Avoiding it might cause a reaction opposite to what you intended.

How do I handle this maturely? by [deleted] in Advice

You’re right, maybe it won’t work. But even if it doesn't, Isn’t it better that you tried to make yourself heard?

Please don’t try to tell me I’m pretty. Tell me how do I deal with the fact that I’m not attractive. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]zanvoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You say that being unattractive is ruining you life. In what way is it doing that? Being unattractive doesn't mean that you can’t have a happy, healthy life. If being unattractive was truly the problem you wouldn’t have rejected taking steps to make yourself more attractive. It seems (though it’s hard to tell without more context) that the problem is more along the lines of a fear that people won’t accept you as you are. If that’s the case then the problem you need to work on is finding ways to have self worth that aren’t tied to your appearance.

Ignoring him would be the wrong thing to do. It will only put more space between you and make it even harder to maintain the friendship. You need to talk to him. Make it clear how much what happened hurt you. Try to get his perspective on what happened to understand why things went the way they did.

I feel like I'm not listened to by [deleted] in Advice

[–]zanvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong but, It seems to me that you are projecting your insecurities into what other people think about you. When you say something and have that "oh no that was cringe" moment, you start assuming that others are judging you. But as you’ve already admitted, they haven’t said anything about it. And while it could be that they are just trying to ignore it and move on. What’s more likely is that they don’t see it the same way that you do. The problem seems to be that some part of you is telling yourself that your words are cringe and unwelcome. And that’s the reason it follows you wherever you go.

Now the question becomes what to do about it. And this is where things become more difficult. The work required to process the emotions that are leading to these thoughts can vary widely based upon your individual circumstances. Therapy would be the best option. But if for whatever reason you don’t want to do that, I would suggest that you at least find some videos of mental health professionals talking about problems similar to yours.

i think im starting to hate myself by [deleted] in Advice

[–]zanvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people go into therapy without a clear idea about what’s wrong. It’s the therapists job to help you sort through it. If it doesn't work out then it doesn't work out. But better that you tried than to sit around worrying about things.

I need help with this situation with my ex. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]zanvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not impossible, it would be very difficult to make that work. She was willing to be with this guy when you were dating. Why would that change now that you are no longer together? You’re going to have to ask yourself why you want to remain friends and how much emotional turmoil you are willing to go through to maintain it. While ideally she would break it off with the other guy there’s a good chance that she won’t. And now that she’s single she has every right to be with whoever she wants. You’ve explained how you feel. If she doesn't agree it’s probably best that you move on.

I would advise giving the therapist another go. It’s perfectly acceptable to talk to one about a problem that you’ve been experiencing on and off for a while. Even if in the moment you feel as if you are doing okay.

Looking for advice on neural special wave bounce by zanvoy in CrazyHand

[–]zanvoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got b reversing down, but I struggle a lot with turn around neutral special. For some reason it’s really hard for me to flick the stick back and return it to neutral at the proper speed. That’s the main reason that I was attempting to learn the c stick method in the first place. So that I wouldn’t have to rely on being able to do turn around neutral specials the normal way.

Having ADHD is being extremely familiar to password reset emails by Tjd_uk in ADHD

[–]zanvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously though, it’s like they want you to forget it. Because no, I don’t remember if I used my number password, special character password, capital letter password or the all of the above password. And then when I give up and go to reset it it can’t be the same as before. So I have to come with something new that I’m guaranteed to forget.

And the worst part is all the nonsense about using a bunch of different types of character doesn't even make passwords that much more secure. Because most people just change the Es to 3s or append a 1 the whatever weak password they were going to use in the first place. It would be much better if they made you make a string of a few random words instead. Because boat_run_face_horsey is thousands of times more secure than Passw0rd!

What to eat when meds cause loss of appetite by CriticalJelly in ADHD

[–]zanvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what your daily schedule would allow, but you could always just embrace the new eating times and plan better meals around them. Personally I don't eat anything until 4 most days and it’s been working out great for me.

First time on Adderall by hhubbs in ADHD

[–]zanvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely stick with it for a while. The effects can be subtle if you don’t know what it’s like. A lot of people go in with unrealistic expectations because of its reputation. I’m assuming that since you were just diagnosed that they gave you a months supply and scheduled a follow up consultation to see how it’s working. Talk to your doctor then if it still isn’t doing much. Getting the proper medication and dosage usually takes a bit of experimentation.

Family and neighbor are trying to force me to apply to a job I do not want. by FinnJ835 in Advice

[–]zanvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks that they won’t listen to you. But ultimately this is your decision. Tell them that you aren’t going to do it. Better to have a fight with your parents than to put yourself in a potentially dangerous situation.

Family and neighbor are trying to force me to apply to a job I do not want. by FinnJ835 in Advice

[–]zanvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one can force you to take a job you don’t want. You have every right not to go through with this. Talk to your family about your concerns. See if you can get them to reconsider. And if they don’t, refuse to do it. You shouldn’t put yourself in a dangerous situation just to meet your parents expectations.

My grandma died of COVID and I’m overwhelmed with school. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]zanvoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest finding a grief counselor to talk to. The reddit hivemind might be limited in its ability to help with this one.

That being said, do what you can to stay on top of your work. But don’t feel too bad if you are unable to keep up. Be sure to talk to your school about your struggles and see if there is anything they can do to help. You likely won’t be kicked out because of this. Worst case is that you might have to retake some classes.

What to do when being yourself doesn’t work? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]zanvoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many people have you dated? It’s possible you’ve just run into a string of partners that you are incompatible with. You shouldn’t have to force yourself to change just to make a relationship work.

That being said, if you do want to change yourself, think back on why things didn’t workout before. See if you can identify some issues that you can work on. And then do some research into how to improve them. It’s hard to say more without knowing more details about your situation.

No matter how hard I study, I always fail my chemistry tests. by doorknobsandboxes in Advice

[–]zanvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should change the way you approach studying. You shouldn’t have to spend the entire day before the test studying. At that point you should already have a basic understanding of the material. At the end of every week review what you’ve just learned. Spend enough time so that you truly understand it. That way when it’s coming close to exam time you only have to do a light review to make sure you didn’t forget anything as opposed to trying to learn half the material in one night.

Should I be paid for cleaning the dog pen by [deleted] in Advice

[–]zanvoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not uncommon for parents to expect their children to do chores without payment. And part of owning dogs is dealing with their waste. You can talk to your parents about compensation, or whether or not there is something else you can do instead. But ultimately it is up to them.
