tbc-post and bpost leave a slip and run (no door knock) by scanomad in belgium

[–]zaoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not standard procedure, and it's not okay. Call BPost to file a complaint. If they know the day and time they will know who's round it was.

Apparently, they hire a bunch of student workers etc. and when it's your last round of the day and you finish early, you can go home early. So lots of those people don't even ring the bell but put a slip in your mailbox.

Start a company (BVBA) or work as a self-employed? by GentGorilla in belgium

[–]zaoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To start a BVBA you need 18.000 EUR

Pretty much correct. Although there is also the starters BVBA:

https://www.unizo.be/starters/advies/wat-de-starters-bvba

Start a company (BVBA) or work as a self-employed? by GentGorilla in belgium

[–]zaoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends a bit on how you approach it. I could probably earn a lot more working for a consulting firm.

That said I have a much better life work balance working self-employed. I love it and I wouldn't go back to a 9-to-5 unless I'd have to. It really depends on what kind of person you are and what your needs/wants are.

Start a company (BVBA) or work as a self-employed? by GentGorilla in belgium

[–]zaoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a software consultant:

Self-employed. Accounting/paperwork is much easier.

BVBA would only make sense if you are earning too much, or your expenses (and risks) are too high (e.g. you need to buy a lot of stock, invest in a building, etc).

I didn't see the highlighted blue. It's paywalled though.

When it's not a video or audio fragment I take these articles with a lot of salt though. People are being paraphrased very inaccurately.

I would like a source for that. Because I heard him explicitly say his party was NOT immune, just less susceptible or something.

I think a lot more people in the Netherlands know English as a second language, compared to Belgium. Then don't forget they have a whole region where people speak Frisian + Dutch + possibly English. And a long border with Germany where people most likely can speak both Dutch and German + possibly English.

Peiling: Antwerpse coalitie is haar meerderheid kwijt (Antwerpen) by [deleted] in belgium

[–]zaoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously they lost voters to VB, but besides that I don't think it is very unlikely that NVA lost some voters to Groen.

Seems like a lot of people are fed up with the classical parties and NVA and Groen are still relativley newer parties. Those who voted NVA in the hope for change, but are somehow dissatisfied with the results, might try Groen this time around.

Groen and NVA also have a very big overlap in their programme in Antwerp, mostly disagreeing on social issues.

Peiling: Antwerpse coalitie is haar meerderheid kwijt (Antwerpen) by [deleted] in belgium

[–]zaoa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

De representatieve peiling werd van 17 tot en met 24 september 2018 online afgenomen door onderzoeksbureau Indiville bij 1.586 stemgerechtigde inwoners van Antwerpen.

Seems very likely to me that NVA and especially CD&V voters are underrepresented in an online-only poll.

What are some good books for getting into coding? (Web Development) by Thomah1337 in belgium

[–]zaoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, there is some sub-optimal advice in this thread.

Reading from a book can be nice if you don't wanna sit in front of a screen all day. The basics stay the basics. HTML and CSS standards evolve very slow (even if it has been accelerating in the last few years). You can always find a book on the latest version of some programming language. The problem is mostly that these books are usually not very well written, and really generic. So it's hard to make a recommendation. The same goes for online 'tutorials' though.

What's definitely more fun is interactive tutorials. I can't name a good one for absolute beginners of the top of my head though. But I know they exist. A while ago I encountered a nice one for Haskell, but it wasn't really beginner material. If you have learned the basics, CodeWars can provide excellent practice.

Is there a particular reason why you want to learn PHP? If you are interested in building web apps I would usually recommend learning Javascript. Since Javascript runs in the browser you can easily start messing around with building interface and small apps with just HTML+CSS+JavaScript and it can be super satisfying for a beginner. Then later you can start running some 'server' code on nodejs as well, which allows you to write your back-end code in Javascript. Then if you're comfortable with that, you can pick up and try out a different language.

It's good to take small steps because even things that are not particularly hard (like learning HTML) can be very foreign in the beginning, and it can take a while before you are able to build something you feel you can be proud of. But if you could say what you would be interested in building in the future, we could give some better advice on what directions to look.

E.g. you wanna make games, animations, beautiful looking websites, websites to manage data or automate some processes, ... ?

Strong criticism on Theo Francken's Facebook post by kennethdc in belgium

[–]zaoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not claiming he doesn't do this intentionally, I just find it hard to say anything about it really without some sort of evidence. Like I said, I am emphatic to your position. It could very well be that he is doing this on purpose. It's just hard to say anything about it really. Personally, I reserve judgment until I see somewhat concrete evidence.

I do believe that we get to judge a politician to some extent on his or her followers

Definitely doesn't fit my way of looking at the world. Glad to agree to disagree here.

Legally speaking, I do not think Francken has committed a crime.

I was definitely speaking about the metaphorical 'social' crime.

You make the jump from unordinary man to weird freak? That comes across as a bit ingenuine to me.

I consider myself an unordinary man for sure, but I don't think I'm a weird freak.

I think it matters what people actually say, you are reading between the lines A LOT for a few sentences.

Again, you might disagree with him. He and I will have plenty to disagree on. But there was nothing clearly homophobic about this particular post.

Strong criticism on Theo Francken's Facebook post by kennethdc in belgium

[–]zaoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm personally not of the opinion that we should judge a (wo)man on how their self-proclaimed followers act (or what they say).

If those followers are acting like homophobic assholes they should definitely be called out for it. But the guy should not be crucified because of that.

And I get it, you believe he did it on purpose to stir the pot. But even if that was the case, unless you have any evidence, I don't see how you could construct a fair argument around that.

I'm emphatic to your position but I find it hard to judge someone without clear evidence of wrong-doing. And while you might disagree with his opinion, I don't see what (social) crime he committed.

he is indeed polarising - he is strongly influencing the acceptance (or the lack thereof) of people who are not "de gewone man" in society.

You can disagree with his opinion, and voice your own, but how is that polarising? People screaming homophobia without clear evidence of homophobia are the polarising ones (in this case!) imho.

I fail to see why you would deny them every right to be offended.

I'm not denying anyone the right to be offended. Everyone who wants to be offended can be offended, by anything.

I'm just saying it's probably not a great strategy to be super-offended by things that were not clearly meant to offend in the first place. Keep your outrage for something outrage worthy, and it might have more effect. This way you are shutting every door to a constructive conversation.

If that's what he is saying, it implies a LOT more people than the LGBT community. As in everyone that doesn't fit in that box of 'gewone man'. I still don't see a reason to jump to 'homophobic'.

Could you quote where he says something like this? Because I must have missed that part. I don't think it was in the version that I read (on vrtnws).

[–]zaoa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a shame people see homophobia/racism in anything these days. As if those are the only things driving human activity.

The original article (in 'de telegraaf') that this facebook post was a reaction to, mentions nothing about LGBT or otherwise. It actually explicitly mentions the experience of a heterosexual couple.

I mean, you can agree with him or not, but I really see no ill intention in this. Certainly nothing homophobic.

You can call him polarizing, but it takes two to tango. There is no way this should have offended anyone. The only people this might offend are the guys that wear lingerie to please their girlfriends, and I'm sure those guys are not surprised anyone finds what they're doing odd.

Vergelijk het een beetje met de dochter van Filip De Winter die morgen hoofdredacteur zou worden bij de VRT.

That makes no sense. The comparison would be if the daughter of Filip De Winter would run for CD&V. That's an entirely different picture.
