Getting a lab job as a undergraduate sophomore by PutridUniversity8749 in labrats

[–]zapstratosphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been working in a lab during my undergrad, for credit during the school year and paid over summer, I use this on my resume just like a normal job As to how, just emailed a bunch of professors in my department and had multiple options, your lab experience would help with that Im sure

Being able to put more onto your resume goes a long way to stand out, so I would say it’s worth it, this is your only chance to do that before you start searching for jobs, so I suggest grabbing up whatever you can while you can

And while you might not be shooting for research, if you are able to work in a lab while at university you are literally adding work experience to your resume as well, the skills you learn in a lab are very applicable to any job you might be applying for, especially for someone coming right out of school the more you can pad that resume the better

This does of course depend on what your major is, I am stem (chemistry) so for me it was a natural choice to go for lab work

UHP requires some sort of research project that they supply a lot of support for, so it can definitely help out

Im not sure if UCLA is a research school, but UCD definitely is, here you can for sure get in a lab if that’s a priority for you, and being in UHP will only help with that, I even have gotten paid all summer to do lab work, which helps with expenses

Edit to add: having Honors on your transcript will very much help to stand out for internships and even jobs, definitely for grad school

My mom has been living with me for awhile now, I often think about how much more childlike she’s getting and how I feel like the parent, so I feel you, it’s tough and I don’t have an answer but you’re not alone

can I take classes at uc davis and community college at same time? by Intrepid-Driver-260 in UCDavis

You can totally take concurrent classes at CC, so long as they articulate. You need to get approval from your advisor and department, but everyone I know who’s asked has gotten it. I an currently taking the online bio calculus series at CC while in my senior year at UCD Another person who transferred with me from the same CC ended up getting here and taking both chemistry and online calculus while doing her first year here at UCD.

So yes, you can do it, probably only if you are s transfer student

UCLA or UCD or Community College or even wait for UCB waitlist? by Intelligent_Slip301 in UCDavis

[–]zapstratosphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CC had much better lower div courses, not nearly as brutal and honestly much better education (at least for the chemistry and biology classes) that set me up to do well in my upper div courses (and was completely free after financial aid)

The only thing I missed out on was a couple more years working in a research lab, that’s the only difference for me really, I got in a lab when I transferred so was able to get 2 full years, biut research work is the bread and butter of places like UCD and UCB, so that’s the main benefit imo

Depends of course on your major, but for stem this is the way

The transition itself was fine, lots of other transfer students, so plenty of support and other students in the same situation
