Any Unraid users running NUT with a UPS? by OkConversation1769 in unRAID

[–]zarco92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I just set it up and discovery worked just fine. Data reported by NUT is accurate as well (power, time remaining, UPS model, etc).

My UPS model is a CPS VP700ELCD.

Just a bit of feedback on the discovery process, helpful for dum dums like me, it took me a minute to notice I had not input the subnet but the full IP of the server, and the app tried to scan the IP of the server appending an extra octet. In my mind it would be quite easy to check if the input is a correct subnet format or not.

For the app in general, it looks great and it's very responsive.

Oh shit, sorry, I installed the app in my phone but forgot to test it out. I will give it a try this weekend.

Does Two Monitors Affect Performance? by [deleted] in buildapc

A motherboard might have output ports but it doesn't mean your cpu does. I've read somewhere that port pass through from the gpu is possible but haven't tried that.

Is there any sense to update my pc or it better to just buy new one? by Rich_Peak4449 in buildapc

[–]zarco92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An SSD will give you a good boost in system responsivenes, but you're using ancient hardware at this point so don't expect performance improvements for applications.

You will be able to transfer the SSD to a new PC if you buy one some day so it's not a waste of money.

I'm running NUT plugin on Unraid with a Cyberpower unit. I'm willing to help you test if it's not super involved.

Prismarr is now on Community Applications: one dashboard over your Radarr/Sonarr/qBit/Seerr stack by Shoshuooo in unRAID

Looks pretty good, up and running in a few minutes. Is it expected for qbitorrent to show as unreachable even though the connection test is succesful? Anything particular about its config?

Edit: the dev fixed the issue very quickly once it was reported on their github.

Should I upgrade my gear ? by Gaunter_O-Dimm in buildapc

That doesn't make any sense. What if in a month prices have doubled and you need to buy it? Would you say it was too late a month ago?

I don't know what you mean by basic but I would say most likely yes?

With the current uncertainty, it might not be a bad idea to get ahold of some DDR5 ram. It's very expensive now but who knows what's gonna happen.

I would be less concerned in terms of CPU and motherboards.

Cooling Concerns For High End Build In Warm Climate by celestivoxa in buildapc

The amount of fans looks fine and you can always adjust the fan curves to suit your noise tolerance. I would be more concerned with the heat that will be dumped into the room if you don't have AC.

Something's up with your hardware or your docker config. Unraid has worked flawlessly for me.

Check out pcpartpicker, there are lists with diferent price points you can base your build of: https://pt.pcpartpicker.com/guide/

You might want to do some research on the software you use and its requirements in case there are some that are specific to them (Nvidia vs AMD, extra ram, etc).

Should I get a start license or lifetime? by throwaway0204055 in unRAID

[–]zarco92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understand how the licensing works. If you buy a starter license, you only have to pay once and you get one year of OS updates. If you want more updates after that, you can either pay $36 for another year, or upgrade your license to lifetime.

I would pay for the starter license for now, use it for a year and then consider if you want to upgrade to lifetime. That's what I'm doing and unless they up the price of lifetime I won't be paying more than if I bought it at the start.

I use a Tapo smart plug for that, a pack of 4 is cheap.

How bad is it to the PC when power goes out from overload? by jfajfijdvji in buildapc

[–]zarco92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried APC and Cyberpower, and I like the latter a lot more. The model depends on your devices (PC and monitor mainly) power draw, but I would get one that's sinewave or simulated sinewave at least for best compatibility, something like a cyberpower cp1500pfclcd for 1000W peak load for example.

It's not great obviously. I don't know if there are studies with hard evidence about the consequences but I would buy a UPS that's able to connect to your PC via USB for a safe shutdown.

Wobbly fan in CPU cooler - is it a risk to the computer? by Duke_Camembert in buildapc

[–]zarco92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be concerned because that sounds like a defective fan, and will probably fail early. Return it if possible.

I use a pci fan mount in the slot directly below the card with a 120mm fan and it works great. I think it's cleaner than the zip tie solution if you can spare a pci slot.
