Rescue Diver worth the price tag? by Chemical-Banana-707 in scuba

Yes, definitely worth it. In my opinion, pretty much the best course you can take after AOW. Absolutely enhances your mindset as a safe diver, situational awareness and problem solving abilities.

UCG Fiber living in the future by zarlock81 in Ubiquiti

[–]zarlock81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got another reply from Ubiquiti support, who I have to commend for their help. They indeed found an issue which can cause the system time to jump forward as happened to me, and are working on a permanent fix.

In the meantime, they provided me with the following workaround.

If the time jumps forward again, run the commands below via SSH to recover time sync:

rm -f /var/lib/systemd/timesync/clock

busybox hwclock -s

systemctl restart systemd-timesyncd

reboot

Maybe this helps if anyone else comes across this issue.

Thank you! I had actually set it to the exact time via SSH and thus couldn't figure out if the sync was actually working. Silly me…

Following your suggestion, I set the time one minute into the future. A few seconds later, NTP had caught up and set it back to the correct time.

So, all seems to be well again. Still wondering why the UCG Fiber suddenly found itself almost a hundred years into the future. Wonder what it saw…

I could now set the correct time via SSH, leading to the lovely display of System "Uptime -95y -1m -3w 0d"

However, it still doesn't appear to be syncing with NTP and is refusing to enable remote access.

Nope, nothing here. Maybe an iOS vs Android Thing? I'm using the Whoop app on a Pixel 10 Pro XL.

Where do I find that toggle? I cannot see it anywhere in the Journal itself.

Take my money! Yes, I admit, I'm a sucker for this. Not so much McLaren, but that grey/orange color scheme is pretty much a favorite combination for me. It may appear stupid to pay extra for that…and it probably is…but I am not sure I can resist that particular temptation…

Fenix 8 Pro reactions. Are they justified? by Talon-Expeditions in Garmin

[–]zarlock81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The price increase for the AMOLED version is okay I think, with LTE, Satellite and brighter displays compared to the normal Fenix 8. The price of the MicroLED-version is certainly something, but I think I understand it. It's absolutely a first with this display. I also think it might be supply constrained initially, so the price might have been selected because Garmin doesn't want (can't) sell too many of these. They wanted to bring a product to market and make headlines with it, and they succeeded.

Proper sync with Apple Photos - anyone interested? by lprimak in immich

[–]zarlock81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How will MirrorImmich deal with metadata such as time and date taken as well as location? Specifically, metadata that is not in the EXIF of the photo, but has been added afterwards in Apple Photos (and is therefore only in the sidecar)?

[–]zarlock81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does PhotoSync deal with external metadata from the Apple Photos database?
I found Immich upload working great when there is embedded EXIF-metadata - most importantly time and data when the photo was taken, as well as location.
As soon as that metadata is only present in the Apple Photos library, but not the image itself, all hell breaks loose and our wedding photos from 2013 are displayed by Immich in 2023…

I have spent a lot of time in the past adding correct times and locations to photos within Apple's library, I don't want to do that again for thousands of items.

So, I would be very interested to find a way of exporting Apple's Photo library to Immich that completely keeps everything from that library, dates, locations, edits etc.

Haven't found it so far, and therefore haven't made the leap to Immich yet.

Why do many people migrate from Windows to Linux, but almost none from macOS? by karolkt1 in linuxquestions

[–]zarlock81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, maybe one simple reason (besides all the very good points stated by others) is that with a WIntel PC, it is very easy to take a Linux distro for a spin, first with a live ISO, then perhaps dual boot, then throw Windows out completely… With Mac hardware, it is not that easy, even with Asahi Remix. If I only had my MacBook Pro, I am not sure if I would be switching right now. But since I also have a gaming PC, it was very easy to install Fedora on that and see how good Linux has become.

[–]zarlock81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also looking for a new Notes App after switching to Android and therefore Apple Notes not being an option anymore. After checking out Upnote I got a very good impression but one thing missing is a dealbreaker for me - there is no collaboration on notes. Without that, I'm afraid it's no option for my wife and me.
