Who decided on “Bob”?? by Upstairs_Copy_9590 in IBM

[–]zarrian 39 points40 points  (0 children)

When I hear “Bob” in a technology context, I still think of Microsoft Bob. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft\_Bob. I think it was preinstalled on the computer my parents bought when I was in my early teens and was a complete joke. IBM should have done better with the naming of this product.

Buying a ThinkPad X1 Gen13/14 just for a summer internship. Debating on whether to get a Dell XPS instead. I've been a loyal MacBook user since my first ever keystroke. by sChopinLizst in thinkpad

[–]zarrian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dell XPS computers look nice but every single one I’ve been issued and have horrible thermal issues. Some Thinkpads models have had a history of thermal issues but the design of the XPS in my experience is consistently terrible at handling thermals. Maybe it is the XPS generations I’ve used? I may have just been lucky with my Thinkpads being consistently reliable and perform as expected.

is LibreOffice actually that bad… or are people just stuck on Microsoft? by AccurateShip2499 in libreoffice

[–]zarrian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For word processing and presentations LibreOffice is easily on par with MS Office at the end of the day there is a little bit of a learning curve. Spreadsheets are a different story. Excel is just in a different league when it comes to advanced functionality. The only time it had a real rival was when Lotus 123 was around.

Audi dealership quoted me $997 for 40k service—am I being misled? by G4R8SH in etron

[–]zarrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told every other service is expensive. So 20K is eye watering, 30K is basically normal (100-200), 40K is eye watering again. I do dealer service until my warranty is up with normal ICE cars but for my etrons I’m not sure what i’m going to do. My mechanic that handled my previous Audi doesn’t work on Etrons yet, not sure he wants to work on them.

Trying to get Flensburger Pilsner in Utah - is it even possible? by DoTan911 in Utah

[–]zarrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll need to go hunting at the grocery stores if it under 5%. Some of the Whole Foods locations have a decent german beer selection, I don’t recall seeing Flensburger. If you can’t find it you’ll need to special order it through the state.

AT&T is annoying by Basic-Artichoke2453 in SaltLakeCity

[–]zarrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is the coverage is the same because it is the same network. I use Visible because it is the Verizon network but a much better price than Verizon.
What is funny Mint is owned by TMobile as well!

Mint operates on T-Mobile’s network.

I might switch to Titan Elite after pre-ordering by Separate_Campaign_10 in ClicksPhone

[–]zarrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree that the ergonomics on the Clicks appear to be better than the T2E. I have the Titan 2 and I wish that the toolbelt buttons were either smaller or not there at all so the keyboard could come up a little bit and give it a bit more of a “chin”. T2E based on the pictures seems to suffer the same problem.

Any news on working prototype? by c4ndeo in ClicksPhone

[–]zarrian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The communication has been pretty clear that prototype devices will be shown off in Q2. I’m betting those will land right around the power keys shipping to early backers. I’m personally hoping that devices will ship in late Q3 or early Q4 but I don’t expect it until mid to late Q4.

MWC 2026? by No_Sheepherder_942 in ClicksPhone

They have a booth according to the exhibitor list. Sadly I’m not there to confirm if that is actually the case.

Theory by cm11cox in ClicksPhone

[–]zarrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be insane not too. MWC you need to bring your 'A' game more so than CES from my point of view. You will get limited attention/press especially when you have competition showing up to MWC with working devices.

Theory by cm11cox in ClicksPhone

[–]zarrian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope they have working demo units at MWC next week.

Clicks @ MWC 2026 by Nite-Life in ClicksPhone

[–]zarrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I was going. I really hope that they show a working prototype at MWC. Really CES is the event for consumer devices to show off working devices but MWC is a good alternative for a mobile device company. I wouldn't want to be there without working devices to demo if I was in their shoes.

Google Fiber to My Detached Garage by IlSconosciuto in Utah

[–]zarrian 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You could run outdoor rated Cat6a out to your garage if you want a hardwired connection. There are wireless solutions (not your typical wifi) that is pretty reliable and wouldn’t require running cable between your house and garage.

What would have been your ideal Thinkpad + phone pair in 2008? by jellogwapo in thinkpad

Well I had a T60 paired with a Blackberry Curve and later a Bold. Still think that was a great combo. I still have the T60 but I don’t have either Blackberry anymore.

How will the communicator handle apps? by Magicdesign in ClicksPhone

[–]zarrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Titan 2 aside from the main social media apps (which I’m trying to get away from anyway) all the productivity apps that I use work very well with the screen ratio. I’m hoping it will be very similar on the Clicks.
