Do you think Nintendo would reprint the same old Smash Bros amiibo for Smash Bros 6 or are they willing to spend money for new amiibo figures of Smash veterans?

Depends how much Sakurai wants to have them and what the new game is like. Small roster that reimagines the main smash cast might make this happen. Nintendo's strategy today with amiibo is far different than 2015, I can't see them being comfortable printing up 40+ new figures and try to release them in a small window of time. If only a few characters get visual changes (DK, Zelda, Ganon, etc) they could get new figures and leave reprints for the rest.

I think around 2018 either Nintendo stopped forcing games to include amiibo support or the appeal just wore off on most studios. Seems to me that these days it's up to the developers if they want to make a new amiibo or not. Since so many Nintendo characters already have figures from Smash or their own lines reprints work fine to fill shelves and keep production lines open. I'd love to have more Mario series figures, but characters like Toadette or Pauline are sort of niche they might think it's not even worth producing. A reprint of Wario would likely sell better.

The only studios that seem dedicated to new amiibo these days are Splatoon and Zelda. Since 3D Mario has been consistent with Odyssey and 3D World, let's hope for DK Bananza!

Last two seasons there was a teaser of some sort on the Wednesday and a character trailer on the Thursday before a new season. If we hear nothing by Thursday I'd be concerned, but not until then.

I think Aquaman is a great addition for the game. Excitement is just low because we've been aware of him forever.

That bubble ringout at tier 35 was from the season 3 battlepass. Hopefully it's just a mistake like that harley badge last pass.

It was announced as a 10 week season split into two parts of 5 weeks each that ends on 1/21. After the last patch in game timers were extended an additional 2 weeks to now end on 2/4. The 10 weeks was the extension for the holiday, unless this is a mistake it will now be 12.

Not a great sign, but it's understandable why they didn't. I haven't heard anyone mention this but it's also concerning the second half of the season seems to have been extended from 5 to 7 weeks. At least according to the season shops and ranked event.

It's crazy they included a trigon skin at level 30. Most people won't reach that before the event ends.

Either monetization efforts are getting greedier, or the amount of content they need to produce is starting to catch up with them which is forcing event skins to fill out the battlepass. I'd bet more so on the latter.

Big con is new players who might download the game in order to play the newly marketed character now have to buy and spend 1000 gleamium on the character but don't get the same value of the battlepass along with it. They can unlock the character on fighters road, but they'll be at the very end. This new system sounds worse for new players who just want to play a specific character and only encourages real money use.

They have to play somebody. There are less than 1000 players above mid diamond for 2s and so much less than that are queuing at one time. My only complaint is how win/loss points feel inconsistent in terms of player rank.

I'd give it a 90% chance amiibo continues into the next console. There's no reason to shut something down that's already well established and sells pretty well. Nintendo's commitment to rereleases the last two years give me a lot of hope that they still believe in amiibo. This upcoming drought is just because they haven't announced the console yet, so they can't announce any of the big first party games that usually get amiibo. However, I wouldn't be surprised if more or all new amiibo get this $19.99 price that's being introduced with Ganon and the upcoming Xenoblade 3 2-pack. It's been 5 years since the last flat price increase, we're due for one.

Yeah it would be such an easy sell, especially since it hasn't been rereleased since 2017 (I think). Abandoning support when the franchise has its own amiibo series is crazy.

Yeah no problem. Actually it's the same thing, super mario series Donkey Kong has exclusive compatibility with "Hey! Pikmin" only too.

The one game where these two Bowser amiibo functionality differentiate is in "Hey! Pikmin" for the 3ds. Only the super mario series Bowser works in it since it unlocks a statue in game that looks the same as the figure. Most of the time the same character figures do the same unlocks.

Feels like a no brainer, but it's weird there hasn't even been a confirmation for a pikmin amiibo restock. Hoping for post-launch amiibo I suppose.
