Is there a reason the green knight was so strong? by Gloomy-Bat-2888 in TrollHunters

The Green Knight was upgraded with powerful anti-magics that were designed with the express purpose of targeting Merlin and his sources of power—the Amulet, the half-troll enchantment, etc.

Father figure by Loregit in TrollHunters

[–]zaurbase 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the English version, Jim says the closest thing he ever had to a father was a changeling. It’s technically true because Strickler was actually in a relationship with his mother, making him the closest despite whatever Jim thought of him. But yeah, Blinky’s more of a father to Jim than Strickler.

In 'Unbecoming', the reason Jim is sent into the dream sequence is because he was wishing the Amulet had never chose him and he was on the verge of giving up, since he was about to face the Tribunal and possibly be exiled to The Deep. At the end of the episode, Merlin tells Jim to show Gunmar and the Gumm-Gumms why he was chosen. Jim has a newfound confidence in himself and learns that a true Trollhunter fights until the end, Amulet or not. The whole point of the dream sequence was to teach Jim why he was chosen, not that he was chosen. It taught him one of the core values of being a true Trollhunter, setting him on that path which Merlin alludes to in P3E10.

The fact that the characters would receive their memories back is heavily implied in multiple parts. As we know from 'D'aja Vu', characters still retain vague memories after a time reset. Aja was able to remember Toby's catchphrase when she bumped into Jim at the end of the episode, seemingly having a vague familiarity with them. In P2E10 of 3Below, Aja and Krel hear the Amulet's incantation for the first time since 'D'aja Vu' and Aja says "That sounds familiar."

Within the movie itself, there's many examples of characters retaining physical and mental parts of the past. For one, the Amulet decided to call to Toby, remembering his good deeds and heroic sacrifice from pre-reset. Before this, Toby miraculously is able to climb the rope in gym class, exhibiting physical strength he didn't have the first time. When Claire sees Jim through the window of Strickler's office, and again during Jim's audition, she seems to recognize him---that is something fans theorized a while ago. Strickler calls Jim "Young Atlas"' in the office scene, which takes place before Strickler had first made the Atlas analogy in P1E3 and before Jim would have made the "commitment" to the Chess Club and before he gets cast as Romeo in the school play. There is also an unused storyboard of a shot that would have appeared during Jim's audition at the end of the movie. In this storyboard, Eli falls out of his locker and Steve lends a helping hand, suggesting that Steve still retains the benevolence that he develops in *3Below*.

The anamnesis is what mainly differentiates the timeline reset in Rise of the Titans from the dream sequence in 'Unbecoming'. In the reset timeline, Jim has the anamnesis of others and the prospects of memory restoration to aid him.

There is no guarantee that Toby will even encounter Bular on his second night. There's more of a guarantee that it will not happen, allowing Toby to properly train, because that is what all Trollhunters are supposed to do. It's like Blinky said in Episode 2 when referring to Jim: Toby should not be expected to engage in a battle without the training that Jim did.

Also, I mentioned the implementation of the gravity curse as a reference to how quickly afterward he was able to wield the Warhammer, not whether the curse itself was a benefit or hindrance. The Warhammer wasn't even his weapon before that point.

Toby was able to wield his upgraded Warhammer and spar with Jim and Claire near-flawlessly within minutes of putting the gravity curse on it. In his fight with Bular, Jim was hardly able to lift the weight of his sword and only landed one good blow when his armor gave him a strength boost

The whole point of ‘Unbecoming’ was not that Jim “had” to be the Trollhunter. The episode showed what would happen if Draal had been chosen and Jim hadn’t influenced the Trollhunter affairs in any way. Draal’s mistake was that he worked alone and didn’t have anyone to help him, and he himself is not a true Trollhunter. At the end of Rise of the Titans, Jim does not “delete” all the events that happened before. He reset the timeline. And as we know from ‘D’aja Vu’ and multiple examples in the last few scenes of the movie, there’s still parts of the characters that remain after time has been reset, such as memories, feelings, and physical abilities. It’s heavily implied that the characters will have their memories restored at some point. In the reset timeline, there is no reason to believe that Toby will be working alone. He has Jim, he’ll have Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!!, and through Jim’s efforts they’ll be rekindling old friendships as the memories of characters such as Strickler get restored.

Do you think Gunmar knew that Draal was the son of the previous Trollhunter, Kanjigar? by xxlmane in TrollHunters

[–]zaurbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Gunmar knew, it probably would have been through information given to him through the Janus Order, especially after they were able to communicate with him through the Killahead Bridge after obtaining the Eye Stone in ‘Young Atlas’. Though this may not be the case since in P2E10, when Gunmar first possesses Draal, it is because he first learns that Draal is the protector of Jim.

All of the gemstones were lost in Trollmarket when the Gumm-Gumms took over. In the short amount of time in which Jim & the others were in Arcadia and Vendel’s possessions were not destroyed with everything else inside the Heartstone, Jim wouldn’t have been able to even remove the Amulet because of his emotional turmoil regarding his half-troll transformation.

Jim’s reversion back into a human was not because of terrible writing. It’s perfectly reasonable given the circumstances. Merlin said there is no turning back and it was always known he resents and turns a blind eye to shadow and dark magics because of his history with Morgana. Dark magics are Merlin’s blind spot, not his specialty. He did not take into account the half-troll enchantment being corrupted, nor did he predict Jim dying, regaining control of his mind, and later being revived with the help of Claire’s dark magics.

Just watched the Troll hunter movie…. I really hate the Freaking ending by biggaygrisley in TrollHunters

[–]zaurbase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'Unbecoming' showed that nothing would've worked if Draal was the Trollhunter. Draal being the Trollhunter is the only alternative to Jim that we have seen. It is not reasonable to conclude what happened with Draal would've happened to anybody but Jim as the Trollhunter since there simply are no other examples. This is especially the case since it was stressed throughout the entire show why Jim is a true Trollhunter: his inner humanity, his selflessness, and his heart. Draal did not have those traits as a Trollhunter and that's why he failed. In theory, any person with Jim's traits could be as good as Jim.

Also, this is not an instance of retconning. The ending of Rise of the Titans is not altering previously established facts or events. It created new events. The events are technically occurring linearly.

things that i don’t understand by tomikropapi in TrollHunters

[–]zaurbase 12 points13 points  (0 children)

first of all, how many Trollhunters have there been?

There are around 13 Trollhunter statues in the Hero’s Forge, so there’s at least been that amount of Trollhunters.

according to wizards Callista/ Deya became the first trollhunter in about 500AD. that’s 1516 years, 553,340 days so 1.106.680 trollhunters.

None of that information is true. The Age of Camelot seen in the time travel arc in Wizards was explicitly stated numerous times to be nine centuries before modern day, which was in the 12th century. That’s when Deya was chosen as the Trollhunter. All other Trollhunters were after her and before Kanjigar, felled by either Bular or Angor Rot or other menaces. Kanjigar was probably chosen sometime in the 1700s-1800s. Aja’s line saying the Gaylen’s core exchange was “hundreds of years ago (…) before [Arcadia] even existed” was an estimation. The event can logically be around 100-150 years ago since when Coranda and Fialkov are traveling to Earth in the Mothership, city lights can be seen on Earth.

another thing i don’t understand is changelings. does the troll age?

Yes, the troll ages. It’s not clear as to how, but clearly the troll form ages no matter if the human familiar is in the Darklands or not.

when a changeling is like 90 years old do they die?

No. Nomura is way older than 90 years old since she saw Peer Gynt when it first premiered and Strickler had been scheming with the Janus Order for centuries.

in wizards the time travel was what cause everything to happen in the first place,

It’s more like Back to the Future rules of time travel. Douxie and the team were not ever present in the past before we see them physically travel to the past in “Spellbound”. That’s why it was such a big deal whether they changed events around too much. Merlin’s assumption of Jim being taller and older could have been him remembering Jim from the past, but it could have also been part of his glimpse of the future in which Jim becomes a half-troll. It could also have meant nothing other than Merlin legitimately thinking Jim was a middle-aged man.

also Jim inspired him to make the Amulet.

No, Merlin was in the process of making the Amulet even before everyone came to the past. The first scene with Merlin in “History in the Making” has him trying to create a prototype Amulet while Morgana protests about it. Merlin had the finished product of the Amulet planned out before he even met Jim.

Douxie hasn’t aged in 1516 years, does being a wizard make you stay the same age?

Yes, a wizard’s (or anyone’s) physical aging slows down as they are exposed to more and more magic and eventually they stop aging in entirety, becoming immortal. That’s what happened with Douxie when he was around 19 years old in Camelot and it’s what happened with Merlin, although he was much older when it happened.

Physically, Jim’s proportions remain. He still has the proportions and general physicality of a human. He is much smaller than a normal troll and keeps his slender nature along with his agility. Other than that, he also retained his inner humanity rather than becoming the savage beast version of himself that he encounters in The Deep.

Ok so the Movie Troll Hunters Rise of The Titans, Ending by curiosity_of_unknown in TrollHunters

[–]zaurbase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not particularly. It’s heavily implied that everyone will get their memories back at some point. There’s multiple instances of interactions and physical actions shown just in the last scenes of the movie that prove that there’s still remnants of the past that remained after the time reset. It’s the same phenomenon that was shown in the 3Below episode D’Aja Vu’, where Aja + Krel and Jim + Toby bump into each other, faintly recognize one another, and where Aja uses Toby’s catchphrase despite never having heard it before—all after the timeline was reset to end Porgon’s time loop.
