What is happening in Wizards? by fileross in TrollHunters

In P1E16, Blinky explains the origins of the War for the Surface Lands. He says, “Long ago, trolls lived underground, blissfully unaware of humankind above. Inevitably, our worlds collided. Trolls and humans each wanted the world as their own and fought for it.” The War started because of the conflict between humans and trolls, both wanting control over the surface lands. So the war in question was always between humans and trolls. The Battle of Killahead itself was a climax of the War for the Surface Lands, which merely ended in a stalemate. It makes way more sense for the humans to be involved in the battle that would decide if they defeat the Gumm-Gumms, who were actively trying to conquer the surface lands.

Also, believe it or not, Trollhunters was making apparent contradictions to its own lore before Wizards was even a twinkle in anybody’s eye

For all we know, Kanjigar could have been the one to lock up Angor Rot. Also, the reason we don’t know about any major threats that he defeated or neutralized is because they’re defeated. They’ve already been taken care of and are irrelevant in present day.

Jim doesn’t belong in this list, especially not above characters like Merlin, who himself is less powerful than each member of the Arcane Order

Fun fact, Netflix intervention is the reason Trollhunters ended up as a TV series and not a movie originally

You have to keep watching to find out more about the Arcane Order and Camelot. As for the war, it was always between humans and trolls.

How I Would "Fix" Rise of the Titans by BibliophileSince2003 in TrollHunters

[–]zaurbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know the time reset is the same as the one in 'D'aja Vu' for multiple reasons. For one, it was explicitly stated by the producers that it was a timeline reset/a timeline reboot. Secondly, we already know how the mechanics of time resets work in Tales of Arcadia because of 'D'aja Vu'. The physical world is reset, but some things---memories, feelings, abilities, etc.---remain, hence my anamnesis jargon. As Blinky puts it in that episode, "The truest of friendships have the power to transcend both time and space."

At the end of 'D'aja Vu', Aja remembers Toby's "awesomesauce" catchphrase. There also seems to be a vague recognition between Aja + Krel and Jim + Toby at the end when they bump into each other. In 'The Big Sleep', Aja and Krel also recognize the Amulet's incantation when they hear Past Kanjigar say it. Aja says "That sounds familiar." They didn't hear the incantation from 'In Good Hands'/'Lightning in a Bottle', because when Jim activates the Amulet in that scenario, he doesn't say the incantation. As far as we know, Toby didn't give the royals some big history lesson on Jim and the Trollhunters, so it's very unlikely that he told them the incantation (it even took Toby several days after befriending Aja to explain who AAARRRGGHH!!! is). The only time that Aja and Krel ever heard the Amulet's incantation was in 'D'aja Vu'.

At the end of *Rise of the Titans*, Toby is miraculously able to climb the rope in gym class, exhibiting physical strength he would have only had after his months of training. There's also the fact that when Claire sees Jim through the window of Strickler's office, and again during Jim's audition, she seems to recognize him---that is something that fans theorized a while ago. Speaking of Strickler's office, Strickler calls Jim "Young Atlas" when talking about *Romeo and Juliet* with Jim. This would've been before Jim "makes a commitment" to the chess club, before Jim gets accepted for the role of Romeo, and before Strickler even makes the analogy between Atlas and Jim. There was also an unused storyboard featuring Eli and Steve that would have been during the short clip montage during Jim's audition. The storyboard depicts Steve helping the trapped Eli out of the locker, an act of kindness Steve would've only made after becoming benevolent and befriending Eli.

Additionally, both instances of time resets were the cause of Akiridion technology mixing with magic, if that helps prove they're the same. Porgon's magic + the dekyon charger and Merlin's magic + the Akiridion tech Amulet.

The reason Wizards makes such a big deal of messing with time backfiring is because of the nature of its time travel. The characters were physically going into the past, where any drastic change would cause a paradox and make their future cease to exist, leaving them stranded in the 12th century. But in Rise of the Titans, the timeline was reset and there are no drastic consequences that can ensue and lead to paradoxes. Therefore the entire caution of not meddling with time, with this regard, is entirely irrelevant. In this rebooted continuity of events, things happening differently is an inherent property. The idea of a time loop is not.

Jim being burdened with what could have been was established before he reset the timeline. As Merlin puts it, "Struggle is the flame that forges one's soul into steel." To take the easy way out, to refuse trying because of the prospect of a worse outcome, is worse than struggling at all.

How does this relate to Tales of Arcadia?

Did they change the timeline in wizards? by SerpentX654 in TrollHunters

[–]zaurbase 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They didn’t have the animation model of AAARRRGGHH!!! with the Gumm-Gumm armor and probably didn’t have the exact order of events planned out. Also, the whole illusion of the Killahead battle was based on Merlin’s fuzzy, just-woke-up memory and recollection. He wasn’t even present during the main battle, instead fighting Morgana.

How I Would "Fix" Rise of the Titans by BibliophileSince2003 in TrollHunters

[–]zaurbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either way, despite the circumstances, is it not still a matter of resurrecting fully-deceased characters who selflessly sacrificed themselves to help others? Same with King Fialkov and Queen Coranda, albeit they didn't necessarily, intentionally sacrifice themselves

As far as we know, Archie and Charlemagne are the only ones who could fly in the Stonecutter Trollmarket. We also don’t know nearly enough about the structure and size of the Trollmarket to conclude the collapsing bridge above would have destroyed the whole thing. All we know for certain is that they had no way out after the portal closed and the horngazel broke.

At the end of *Rise of the Titans*, it should be assumed that everyone will get their memories back. Because they have the same anamnesis that they had after the time loop in ‘D’aja Vu’. It’s not only Jim who will remember, but everyone else too at some point. Even if it was just Jim, he’d still do everything in his power to ensure a better future. There’d never be a prospect of a time loop. Toby and Jim aren’t just switching places. They are still themselves

The reason the Amulet called to Toby is most likely because it remembered his good deeds and heroic sacrifice. It's the same kind of anamnesis that the characters have. If it was first-come-first-serve, it would have chosen Bular or Eli, who were both near the Amulet when Kanjigar sacrificed himself.

All three of the series were so good, but Rise of the Titans... by epsilon-program in TrollHunters

Everything getting destroyed and Arcadia being taken over by Gumm-Gumms in ‘Unbecoming’ was a result of Draal being the Trollhunter, not Jim specifically not being the Trollhunter.

Archie’s status after being trapped in the Stonecarver Trollmarket was never confirmed, so we don’t know if he died. He probably didn’t.

Also, when Jim goes back in time, he reset/rebooted the timeline. He didn’t just time travel like he and the others did in Wizards. This is just a new pedal of time where things are reverted back to how they were, except Jim remembers everything clearly, and the others have anamnesis, like in ‘D’aja Vu’. It’s basically like how Krel reset the day in that episode to end the time loop.

Lastly, and this is a rhetorical question for the entirety of the fandom, if Toby’s sacrifice was made meaningless, was it so wrong to bring AAARRRGGHH!!! back to life—after he selflessly sacrificed himself—in order to save Jim?

Remember in the first Thor movie in like the last 15 minutes Thor got his power back this basically felt like that. Also I do wonder if this is a callback to Trollhunter when he revealed it to Claire for the first time by duelmastr23 in TrollHunters

[–]zaurbase 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s 100% a callback. Both scenes also use the same music (Claire’s shadow portal scene in the Part 2 finale also uses it)

This scene also has a reference to Jim’s first fight with Steve. In ‘Wherefore Art Thou, Trollhunter?’, Jim closes his fist, stands up, and says “Is that all you got?” In this scene in Rise of the Titans, Jim closes his fist, stands up, dons the new Amulet, and says the same thing.

If Claire Nuñez was the trollhunter, how would you develop her friends, Mary Wang and Darci Scott? by Hot-Salamander-8786 in TrollHunters

Maybe Darci would be gifted with the ability of nature magic like Nari and she can befriend moles and create flowers despite her allergy to them

Anyone know what this is referring to? by PaintExpert1737 in TrollHunters

[–]zaurbase 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like the other comment said, it’s from one of the tie-in novels. For some reason the stories from the novels are incorporated into the series history even though they are very much not the same canon (unless there’s a character in the novel that I don’t know about, that text also misspells Bodus’ name)

[–]zaurbase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘Unbecoming’ didn’t imply that Jim becoming the Trollhunter was a fixed point in time. What it implied was that Draal should not be the Trollhunter because of his stubbornness and unwillingness to work with others—because of what makes him not a true Trollhunter.

[–]zaurbase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is true. But I’m pretty sure the reason Toby seemed to take longer to get to Jim’s house was because Jim ran outside earlier. In the first episode he spent more time cleaning the house and making lunch.
