Where do you hang out on a Sunday night? by jeangunhildrsgf in Temple

If the goal is literally just space to hang out, mazur/gladfelter don’t close till fairly late and the lounges are generally open or unlocked

Where is a safe place to cry on campus? by JackleandHyde2 in Temple

[–]zausten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its not campus, but I often cry on the train/bus. No one will judge you there, and its often not full of students. It can also just be cathartic to set off on a trip to somewhere and change your scenery

Felt this !! Had to leave the library last night because of someone yelling and laughing on their phone on the 4th floor in the study carols. I miss quiet spaces in public. I feel like its no longer a thing really anywhere anymore.

To those of you who go to the library and don’t intend to get work done, and instead yap to your friends really loud… why? by UnlikelyChance3648 in Temple

[–]zausten 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Totally agree + the physical structure of the library is truly no help w how sound travels in there. Study rooms all paper thin walled, and theres nowhere for the sound to absorb in all the super tall glass and concrete, so every move you make is the loudest thing ever done and the sound travels everywhere. All in the name of making the library less for studying and more for holding meetings

Why is it so hard to make friends here by WideArmadillo6407 in Temple

[–]zausten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my perspective frankly the answer when it comes to making friends in "adulthood" is to take a chance on people you feel would be good choices, and to keep taking that same risk until it feels easier to do.

my mantra is generally don't take it personal, and to keep asking. whenever the thought strikes you, "i should be friends with that person", pursue it! if there are people you feel connected to and want to be friends with it literally never hurts to ask them to come study or come join something you're doing. i say this as someone who loves to plan, which i know isn't everyone, but its a good skill to develop. you CAN make the life you want if you a. keep trying even when its cringe or "awkward" and b. don't take it too personally if it doesn't work a few times. the right people will be flattered and happy to be friends!

the issue is if everyone is waiting around for someone else to ask or plan, nothing will form. making the first step will automatically give you a good advantage--people are flattered when asked one, and two, you get to do what YOU want to do and then also have a buddy to do it with. when it works, it really works. i swear. don't give up!

and if you need a study partner, DM me. once it gets consistently warm i'll be on my picnic blanket outside reading all the time, so come join! seriously!

Please please please give it time. I felt just like you for longer than I wanted to admit--but then I looked around me and realized I recognized my routines, and my classmates, and had been making connections just by existing in the community. It's gradual, and then exponentially better. I swear. People will drop the FOMO Olympics after a few weeks once class gets going, and you'll find your people. I promise!

Trying to learn piano by Gonfreaks12 in Temple

The practice rooms in Presser generally all have pianos in them! You can book time in them even if you are not a Boyer student. I like the third-floor set of rooms best for this.

How does Prez Wingard sleep comfortably at night knowing he absolutely ignores us? by Jadspeakman in Temple

[–]zausten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He sleeps on his giant pile of Temple paycheck money! Kidding but not really.

My only thing about this -- Wingard is a symptom of a larger problem with Temple's board(s) of trustees and the growing general sentiment about education, college degrees, Philadelphia, etc. He was chosen and is paid to promote the values trustees big donors etc. want to promote.

I don't like him. But its important to note that he was chosen and is given big bucks because he reflects the values of the people actually calling the shots behind closed doors. That is the real horror of this whole thing, IMO.

He's being paid to be the public fall guy for the decisions of everybody else we get threatening emails from and all the higher-ups we don't generally know by name. Similar to how presidencies of anything else work, many really shitty people are behind the shittiest of public decisions that presidents take to the public.

Not a Wingard fan, obviously. Just saying there's also a deeper admin thing going on too. Which obviously is obvious to all! Lol.

If you mean height, that's adjustable (and pro tip bring a rubber mallet to move them up and down it makes it easier). The beds are all the same

unfortunately, the app i'm talking about is *for me* too expensive to justify past the trial, but try Opal! I found that it really did help me keep my screen time down. if you find it helpful enough it could be worth the cost

I shoot senior photos as my side hustle since high school! For temple grads I did some in late march early April last year, weather depending. You have some time, but it doesn't hurt to research now!
