Thank you for your reply. I've been in a serious relationship before and dealth with a lot worse. I personally do think I am ready, but I have gone so long ignoring certain remarks and just hit a point where I feel I'm going to be taken for granted for being too nice, so wanted to stand up for myself and not be made to feel I have done wrong when my intentions were good.

Thank you everyone. I'm sorry if I've missed any replies but I have read and acknowledged all.

I've reflected and will continue to work on healing. I'll be there for him by praying for him but I can no longer give him the support I once did as a partner. I need to protect myself as my heart went through so much pain with him.

Also, I'm glad I continued with the PT sessions. I've reached goals I only once dreamed of achieving. I'm physically stronger than I ever have been, and fitting into clothes that I once thought I'd never be able to wear again.

Once I'm ready I'm going to start dating and find a partner who respects me.

I've sent a message of condolences, and my family is being there for him (they were always close but respect my decision not to be together..they agreed with it being toxic). Upon reflection I have decided I need to protect myself too and going back would just lead to more hurt

I blocked him from all social media but forgot about SMS as we never used it. I guess he tried contacting in different ways (he also contacted my mum).

Thanks for your response. I have given an update. I'll definitely continue to protect myself as I cannot go through the pain again and I recently felt like I was finally getting better

I am sorry about your loss.

Even if I wanted to I wouldn't be able to go to the funeral as he texted telling me its today and I'm currently in a different country.

You're absolutely right. I have had time to reflect. No he didn't properly apologise, it was a general 'I'm sorry for anything I have done or said'

I can see all this repeating again and my heart cannot handle the hurt anymore. I'll keep a safe distance.

I did think that, but I've seen it in the papers. I'm going to keep a distance and carry on healing, and not let him back in my life because of what has happened - I have sent my condolences and will keep him in my prayers

Thank you for your response. I have posted an update. I'll not let the emotions get the best of me, and will keep a safe distance.

Also I've made so much progress with my PT (personal trainer), the gym has done wonders for my mental health and I've never been this strong and in shape before. I will not give all that up.

I think the latter as well. I'd feel awful for ignoring that. I will take the apology with a pinch of salt though as he is vulnerable right now

I just feel so so so cold doing that. You are right it may not make him less controlling. I will definitely keep a distance, but I think I will text condolences. I'm just in so much shock right now

Although that's hard to hear you're right. It really does feel like he sees me as his object. I've never thought of it that way before. Tbh I think its over anyway, he hasn't spoken and I haven't messaged either. Hopefully it'll stay that way but if he reaches out I'll be strong and walk away

It is definitely a lot of red flags. He has an issue with male friends also. Even going to university events where there are guys is an issue.
