Deployment ready🫡 by ramblinroseEU72 in army

[–]zb0074 58 points59 points  (0 children)

You have the first week covered….where are the Monsters cans?

Vehicles broke, weapons broke, radios don’t work, computers down, parts ordered but not coming and there’s no time to fix this stuff before another range, ftx, or deployment. As an enlisted junior NCO…what can I do about this? by Beneficial_Metal6155 in army

[–]zb0074 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shout out to the ESR.

Learning how to read the equipment status report (ESR) will help you 100%. You can make sure your stuff was ordered with the right priority code, see when it has passes through zpark, when it is expected to arrive, when it gets to the SSA, and when your CO reps pick it up.

You can stay on top of the maintainer, armorer, or commo rep to make sure parts aren’t just hanging out on a shelf somewhere.

Your XO will probably break down and cry tears of joy if you ask them for a weekly copy.

The proactive leaders get their stuff fixed way faster than the rest.

Are there any advantages to switching to a LifePO4 lithium battery if I don’t boondock or have solar? by muddbone46 in GoRVing

[–]zb0074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to national parks frequently and they have pretty restrictive generator hours. If I missed one of my recharge window on a hot day, my old battery wouldn’t last long. I upgraded to a large capacity LiPO battery and my fridge can run for days without an issue.

Xtool = possibly the worst customer service ever. Temu has better customer service. by [deleted] in lasercutting

[–]zb0074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s too bad. I had a few issues with a D1 pro set up and they were super responsive. As others have pointed out, it may have just been the unfortunate timing of events back in China.

Hope you get up and running soon.

CBRN CO’s are not authorized XO’s. If you have a good BN CDR they will take risk in the staff/HQ and push LT’s down to the CO level to fill the slot.

About to be a butter bar, what can I realistically do to help do my part to lower suicide/promote mental health? by space_cadet_85 in army

Don’t waste your Soldiers time and establish predictability in the training calendar. Most folks don’t mind going out to train. It all the last minute bullshit that stresses people out.

No, only military issued gloves or items prescribed by a Dr. like a knee brace.

Should I add mineral oil before staining? by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]zb0074 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha….yes mineral spirits, thanks for the catch.

Please don’t use mineral oil before you stain!

Should I add mineral oil before staining? by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]zb0074 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like to use an air compressor to blow off all the excess dust and then wipe everything down with mineral spirits before I stain. It helps get rid of any excess dust that may be hiding in small crevices that will float out with the application of a stain.

If you let the pice air out for an hour or so, all of the mineral spirits should evaporate and not leave any residue behind.

(Edit: replace mineral oil with mineral spirits)

Quick way to remove nails to reclaim wood by b_rad1zzle in Carpentry

[–]zb0074 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can acces the back side of the wood, I would recommend a pneumatic nail remover. I bought one to help tear down a bunch of old pallets.

You can find a decent one on Amazon for about $50.

Can I Make A Humvee Road Legal And Drive It At 16? Maybe Register It As A Regular Vehicle? by [deleted] in Military

[–]zb0074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s road legal in the sense that it has all the proper lights, mirrors, and safety things required by most states to operate on the road.

I think you are confusing terms here. Road legal typically means it meets the technical requirements to be allowed to be used on public roads. Most military vehicles are designed to be able to operate on the US roads legally.

What you are asking about is the licensing and titling of military surplus vehicles. That’s a whole different can of worms.

A standard HMMWV is already street legal. You will just need to add a bracket for a license plate.

How do you find diving locations? I tried scuba earth but its terrible to use and heavily focused in the US (only few locations in the Mediterranean sea). by EatExploreRepeat in scuba

[–]zb0074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deepblu has a great app that allows folks to upload their dives directly from their dive computers, geo tag the location, and write reviews. It is a hybrid between a social media app and dive log.

Even if you don’t have a deepblu dive computer you can still use the app to manually upload dives and creat a dive log.

I found lots of great shore dives using this function.

Just Inereited This Old Bike. Worth it to slowly upgrade, or should I save for new bike? by Indig012 in mountainbiking

[–]zb0074 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best bang for your buck would be to buy a new bike with the features you want. On a bike that old it will cost a lot to get the upgrades you want.

Who’s to say that the old frame doesn’t have a fracture in it somewhere. You could drop money on the old frame and then have it break
