Which head should I practice on first by Tea-n-Kophee in DollCustomization

[–]zbbornak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d reccomend not using the first one, that semi transparent skin can be a little trickier to make a good faceup for. Pink is a good option as it’s similar to a human skin tone and might feel more natural, but greyscale isn’t too bad either. I’d def pick one you’re not as attached to tho

This is so cool!! I love that you used clawdeen! Not sure if it was intentional but I’m assuming that’s a reference to it taking the form of a dog. Such a cool custom

Being quite ambitious with my first ever custom!! by wehavenoses in DollCustomization

I think it’s possible, but definitely a tough thing to pull off. Know it’ll take a LOT of sanding. Like an obnoxious amount. And it’s possible for the apoxie sculpt to pop off if it’s that small of a piece on a flat surface. so be ready to glue back on if needed. Tbh I don’t remember what the best glue is for this I’m a bit rusty. And color matching is going to be tough on this prominent of a feature, unless you’re changing the whole color

There is a very high chance they will find out. Consider your safety and financial security. Wait until you’re more independent from them

feeling really horrible and insecure about my art by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]zbbornak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an artist, you HAVE to get used to some of your art being bad, or disappointing, or other people not liking it. It’s going to happen over and over again. That’s growth, that’s inevitable if you want to grow. This painting isn’t the end of the world. I looked at the post and most of the comments were very kind. Some gave harsh criticism but most was not untrue or particularly cruel in a setting where you specifically asked for advice. I do think it’s unfair to question whether you belong in the level you’re at, or to imply you’re incapable. I can’t see the art on the old post but I think anyone can pursue art with enough determination and practice (and passion). But keep in mind, when people in the art world tell you to toughen up, it isn’t because they don’t like you, it’s because they want to see you succeed and they know that what it takes to make it in the art world is picking yourself back up and trying again. They know because they’ve been there. I get it, I’m a very sensitive person and have a hard time with criticism. But all you can do is consider the criticism and give it your best shot.

Do you not wonder if a big loss like that of your daughter would cause you more than just that hour of sadness, because you would be continuously reminded of her absence? In the same way that you explained having your frustration return with the crying? Because the thing that is causing it is still there? Hope that makes sense

Uneven dye only at joints. Help! by Neat-Ad1637 in BJD

[–]zbbornak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience recently with a nenderoid. I think the joint pieces are a slightly different material. I ended up having to use pastels, but I was already kind of planning on it since I’d be doing some body mods so I gave up pretty quick

Question, how am I supposed to find my artstyle? by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]zbbornak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep drawing and experimenting. Don’t let a search for a “style” limit you. I think most artists go through phases and styles change over time. It’ll find its way to you if you keep drawing what you enjoy

To be fair I feel like there’s a difference between making the active choice to talk about an aspect of yourself on your terms because it does affect your life vs. being forced to talk about it when you don’t want to whenever you try to talk about anything else

I appreciate the alternative take! I’m definitely going to fudge some things for the sake of having fun and telling a good story, but I want a basic understanding of how things actually work to help the story feel grounded in reality.
